Yoda Lady Ready For Kings And Queens Test

After one of the most action-packed weeks of racing in South Australia as we celebrated the Nationals.the focus will now return to Thursday night with the heats of the 2024 edition of the Kings and Queens set to be run.

This year's series will see dogs and bitches whelped between March and May of 2022 do battle. Traditionally, it is a series which brings together a small, but quality mix of chasers and this year’s series is no different.

Last year saw the talented trio of Fiorano, Could Be King  and Finniss Jewel all make the podium in the final and this year will see several more headline names step out into the heats.

There is no bigger name than Not Without, who was breathtaking last week in his South Australian debut, where he ran a flying 30.23 and immediately stamped himself as one of the fastest chasers in the state.

The super strong Victa Chrissy will also create a powerful presence in the first heat, with the brindle bitch looking to continue her impressive run of form.

Another chaser with genuine claims in the series is the Lauren Harris trained Yoda Lady, who showed her true class with a slashing return to form on Saturday night.

The daughter of Blazin Wildfire x Galactic Athena has been a real revelation since transferring to the Harris kennels earlier this year, after starting her career in strong style under the care of her owners, the Bartholomew team in the Southeast.

An amazing run of form saw the black bitch win six straight races at Angle Park through April and May including the Group 3 Howard Ashton, before being stopped by injury, which resulted in her having two months off.

“She had to have time off as the run after the Howard Ashton she pulled up a little sore in the front, so we had a CT scan done and it showed a small crack in a metacarpal,” trainer Lauren Harris said.

“So she was rested and spent more time in the working runs to build her up again.”

Following this time off, she returned at Angle Park and whilst she found plenty of bad luck in her first up run in a heat of the National Sprint Qualifier, she quickly bounced back to winning form, winning a Monday night Grade 6 in 31.05, before proving way too strong on Saturday in a bitches only Grade 5, flying to the front early and running a fast 30.58, signifying that she is back to her best.

“I was very impressed with her run on Saturday night. She used box eight perfectly and will continue to get better the more runs she has,” Harris said.

Yoda Lady will line up in the first heat which is the Queens race, which has drawn a very even field together. From box seven, she will be looking to cross over early and run them along. A first four finish will see her make the $7,500 final next week.

“I don’t mind her outside, as long as she begins. If we can qualify for the final then that would be great!” exclaimed Harris

The first race is set to jump at 6:43pm.
