Tracie Price Enjoys a Sunday Afternoon Treble

Sunday Meeting
Tracie Price found himself enjoying another big night at the Bridge on a terrific Sunday afternoon, collecting a trio of winners. The highly promising Minnie’s My Mum was the first for Tracie, with the black bitch taking out her Grade 6 over the 395m trip with ease. In a very strong race, she jumped well from box three and burnt hard early to get to the lead. Given some of the strength she has shown so far, she was always going to be hard to pick up after setting a two-length lead into the turn. That proved the case at the top of the straight, as she ran away from the field to win in 22.27, which was easily the best of the night. She certainly has a good future! Wild Banker later lined up over the same distance but did have an awkward box six to contend with. He had to jump well from the draw with plenty of speed underneath, but he did that and heading into the turn he pushed his way to the front. Typically, a strong dog, he was never going to be rundown and went on to well in 22.52, which brought up win 24 from 52 starts! Sudoku Jaxon capped off the night for Tracie, with a strong effort to win his grade 6. From box eight over the 455m trip, he stepped well and showed good speed. After getting his head narrowly in front early, he had to work hard around the bend as the pressure came, but he found another kick at the top of the straight. It was a tight finish all the way home, but the fawn dog did just enough to win in 25.96.
Ron Schadow picked up a training double, with a couple of strong performances from his ‘Victa’ team. Victa Vern won the first of the night over the 530m distance. In a small field, he got it all wrong early out of the boxes and immediately found himself quite a few lengths off the pack and with plenty of work to do. After getting room to build through his gears, he made some ground midrace and worked to a close enough spot around the turn. With the leader going wide on the turn, Victa Vern was able to pounce on the gap and get his nose in front. It was a thrilling tussle up the straight, with four chasers all within a length of each other, but it was the brindle strides of Victa Vern who just had his nose in front as they crossed the finish line. Victa Chrissy returned from a short spell and stepped out over the 455m trip. She was drawn a bit awkwardly with box one, but a small field really played to her strength. When the boxes opened, she was clearly outpaced and had to settle a few lengths off the lead as they went down the back straight. With four lengths to make up as they went around the turn, a win seemed unlikely, but she really let rip down the straight and stormed home on the outside. With a brilliant finishing burst she got the head in front just before the line and won in 25.69, for what turned out to be a fantastic race, with the entire field finishing within half a length of each other!

Tuesday meeting
On a surprisingly warm afternoon up the straight, Ben Rawlings scored a double for the meeting which made the drive down from Lewiston a worthwhile one. Scarlet Overkill was the first of the two, winning from box two over the 350m trip. In a heat of the grade 6 series, she left the boxes well and was given plenty of room to work with. Whilst she took a while to burn to the lead, it was clear halfway up that her speed was going to be a bit too much for the others to handle, as she found the lead and ran away, before winning nicely in 19.66. The high-quality Hands And Heels stepped made it two for Rawlings, with the black dog proving far too classy over the 300m trip. Starting a red-hot favourite from box four, he left the boxes poorly and immediately found himself on the back foot. After being given plenty of room to balance up, he started to work through his gears, but it took a while for him to catch up to the field. With the finish line approaching, he started to power through and eventually took over just before the line, going on to win in a sharp 16.78. Two very nice winners for the Rawlings team!
Bedrock Will was a very impressive winner first up for Michael Stewart, with the talented stayer showing that he has enough speed to prove a winning threat over the 300m distance. From box five and first up since August, he stepped cleanly and got a clean run early, which allowed him to work towards the rail. Midrace, he got outpaced and looked in a world of trouble, but he rebalanced himself and set out on the leaders again. It was a brilliant surge late from the black dog as he stormed over the top to land a brilliant 16.95 victory. That just might be a sign that he is somewhere near his best!
