TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

What a fantastic night of racing we have tonight and the headline event is the Triple M 2013 Adelaide Cup Final which is Race 8 on the 12 event card. If you are a MMM listener as I am, not only do they play good music but they have nearly 100 listener’s being entertained in a marque (The Dog House)  on track side tonight with Mark Ricciutio and Chris Dittmar from the Rush Hour Show 3pm – 6pm weekdays.

Race 1 and there is a lot of speed in this event.  Grainne O’Malley has the pace to kick up early and win from box 2.  The challengers will be crossing hard from out wide in Bogie Magic and Carlos Tyson.  Add in Pandora Kist who will be flashing home.  Box up 2-3-7-8.

Interesting race as it is very open.  Box 1 is a bonus for Victa Sam and he can rail early and hold the lead.  Modest Ruler has a good turn of pace and was placed last start in a Cup Heat and will find this a lot easier. Don’t forget about Well Quoted who has been knocking on the door in recent runs.  Box up 1-2-5-8.

Race 3 and trainer Ken Gill has a very big chance of winning this race and the Cup final.  He has Farmeroo engaged in this event.  He hasn’t missed a cheque in his last 4 runs and will be very hard to catch tonight.  The main dangers are Dyna Ultra and Long Gully Flip.  Box up 1-3-5-8.

The Premiers Cup over the 731m and I am tipping the old fellow in Kalden Mayhem who should be fresh from a disappointing last start 5th here last month.  Mimicking for the Britton kennel  loves this track and he hasn’t missed a place here in 6 runs.  They appear the main two chances, add in Fender who is in good form.  Box Up 3-7-6-8.

Race 5 looks a two dog race with Dolmar from box 1 and the pacey Kalden Kapone for Troy Murray.  Both have different racing styles and I’m with the pole runner for Ben Rawlings.  Contrarian led and won well here last week but will need luck to cross.  Box up 1-2-4-6.

Race 6 and Webster was a solid run in the Cup heats and ran a really good 2nd behind the flying Ernie Bung Arrow.  He won 1st up here and from box 1 will take beating tonight.  Kalden Mischief is a pacey performer who is the BIG danger from box 3.  The others for trifecta punters are Kalden Kurageous and Benchmark.  Box up 1-2-3-8.

Tough race as there are several chances even though it is now a small field of six. Flying Tee hasn’t raced since early last month when a well beaten 7th after starting the favourite.  He was in terrific form prior and can bounce back despite the draw.

Kaylarikki is racing well but is hit and miss on box rise and Victa Brooke has plenty of ability.  Box up 1-4-5-6.

The Adelaide Cup Final and $75,000 bickies is on offer to the winner.

“ How Good is That”.  What a terrific race on the card, this is one of the better Cups we have seen here in Adelaide as there are at least 5 winning chances and it all depends on the 1st turn. Iona Seven hasn’t put a paw wrong here and is one of two runners for the powerful Robert Britton kennels in tonight’s final.  She has pace and carved out a slick 29.41 win here in the heat from box 4.  The inform sprinter can kick up and lead and is amongst the main chances.  Local star Ernie Bung Arrow continues to excel and has only been beaten ONCE in his 13 career starts, box 8 is a bonus as he loves a bit of room early and he has the pace to cross and win.  Add in Farmor Las Vegas who was the quickest heat winner here last week with a sensational 29.36 win along with Ronan Izmir for Jason Thompson.  What a class field and good luck to all runners and connections.  Box Up 2-3-5-8.

“GO ERNIE”

Race 9 and Dyna Aline led them a merry dance here last week for a slick win in 34.97 over Victa Scott and looks very hard to beat again tonight. Tercel who loves the trip and has drawn well and will be carving across.  Victa Scott cannot be overlooked along with kennel mate Victa Victoria. Box Up 1-3-4-7.

Race 10, now this is a very open affair and it could be the get out stakes.  I am leaning towards Dyna Denny for Lisa Rasmussen.  He has a good turn of early pace and can lead and win from box 7.  There are a heap of dangers.  Box up 2-5-7-8.

Race 11 and we can box up the inside brigade as Mimic Master can lead and win from box 1 for Steve Coates.  He has been racing well and won here 2 runs back in 30.07.  Life’s Cool along with Dyna Erwin for the placing’s.  Box up 1-2-3-6.

The last of 12 races on a fantastic night of racing and lets box up 1-6-7-8 with Murf’s Angel from the red having enough pace to hold the lead and win.

Good Luck and I hope everyone has a night to remember at the 2013 Adelaide Cup…

GREYHOUND OF THE MONTH – SEPTEMBER

Greyhound of the Month for September was the Ken Gill trained Ernie Bung Arrow who was absolutely sensational during the month winning all three starts including the Group 3 Schweppes SA Derby. The son of Lochinvar Marlow and Slipper’s Tonic started the month off in brilliant fashion demolishing a Grade 6 event on Wednesday at Angle Park by 12 ½ lengths in a sizzling 29.57 with all attention focused on the Derby series. He was challenged in his heat but was able to show his class and win by a neck in a handy 29.89 booking his spot in the final. He drew box 2 in the final and all eyes were at the start hoping he could show his customary dash when the boxes fly open. He didn’t disappoint his supporters with a fabulous display. He found the front early and from there was never headed recording a brilliant 29.55 for the 515m journey and defeat one of the best Derby fields assembled in recent history. At the end of the month Ernie Bung Arrow had won 11 races from his 12 lifetime starts with 1 minor placing. He has won over almost $40,000 in prizemoney and is now following in the path of last years Derby winner Spud Regis who went on to win the Triple M Adelaide Cup.

RUN OF THE MONTH - SEPTEMBER

The Run of the Month for September was pretty straight forward this month with Ernie Bung Arrow getting the nod from the judges for his scintillating Schweppes SA Derby win on Thursday 19th September. His time of 29.55 when leading throughout was once of the quickest seen on the track in recent times however it was his performance to produce such a brilliant run against high quality opposition that had the judges in raptures. His explosive speed and fighting qualities have endeared “Ernie” to the local fans however its tonight that could stamp him a National hero.

GROUP RACING FINALS AROUND THE NATION

The Group 1 Triple M Adelaide Cup tonight dominates the National scene this week however there are plenty of stunning finals over the next few days. Albion Park have an excellent field for their Group 3 Gold Coast Cup tonight which includes outstanding chaser Punch One Out.

Mandurah’s Group 3 Final tomorrow night also looks a fantastic race on paper with Linda Britton and Paul Stuart dominating the qualifiers with three each including Group 1 winner Dyna Nalin for Paula and Oh So Smooth for Linda all chasing the $25,000 first prize.

Last but not least will be the Group 3 Sydney Cup Final over the 720m at Wentworth Park on Saturday night where again a handy field of stayers has made it through to the final with heat winners Set Sail South and Infinate Wish both from the Angela Langton kennel looking strong chances however Bell Haven could be the one to win another feature in the harbour city.
