Jaensch continues excellent straight track run - The Bridge Week in Review
Jaensch Team Continue To Fire Up The Straight
Sunday Meeting
It was a windy evening at the Bridge on Sunday but that didn’t stop some strong racing.
Liz Chegia claimed a training double for the card, which started with Fantastic Spike who won well thanks to a powerful turn of foot when stepping out over the 530m trip.
From box seven, he was a shade slow to go but quickly mustered around the outside and stormed to the front of the field. Once he hit the front, he quickly put a margin on the others and extended to a big lead and he never looked like losing from there and went on to win strongly in a slick 29.80.
The promising He’s Magic made it two for Chegia a couple of races later. From box two over the 395m trip, the brindle dog left the boxes slowly and very quickly found himself with a fair bit of work to do. After finding himself five lengths off the leader, he went about shortening that gap and did a good job of it, making up a couple of lengths before the turn and showing some strong field sense in the process. At the top of the straight, he worked into an ominous spot, and it didn’t take long for him to power through to the lead, before running away for a strong 22.45 win.
Kiah Hurley also had a strong night at the Bridge, landing a winning double herself. Zelda Chaos took out a grade 5 over the 395m distance in terrific fashion, thanks to a brilliant beginning. From box three, he jumped straight to the front and set up a margin in a matter of moments. Around the turn, he was challenged and had to respond, but he did so convincingly, booting clear again and running away late to win in a best of the night 22.22.
The high-quality Long Haul then took out the last of the night, winning the fast class over the 455m distance. It was a fast start from the white and brindle dog as he stormed straight to the lead early. After staying up the track, he did get outpaced midrace and seemed in a spot of bother. Around the turn, he started to lift again and through the bend he loomed again. With the finish line approaching, the big bounds came in and he got up just, winning strongly in 25.64.
Tuesday (Straight track)
On a ripping Tuesday afternoon at The Bridge, it was the Wendy Sebastyan trained Lockaba Nitro who got the meeting underway, winning his grade 6 in thrilling fashion over the 300m trip. Starting as one of the outsiders in the race from box two, he left the boxes well and was given a bit of room to work with early. After settling just off the leaders, he started to make some ground mid-race, although things were getting tight. With the finish line fast approaching, he started to surge late and in the last bound he was able to get the head in front, snatching victory in 17.13. That was career win number three for him at just start 9, so he has made a strong start to his racing journey!
Craig Jaensch continued the terrific run that his kennel has been on, landing another training double. The airborne My Reason made it three straight wins, taking out another fast class event over the 300m trip. From box eight, the blue dog came out fast and pushed his way over to the lead, although he did have to work for it. Once in front, he was always going to be too fast and that proved the case, as he shot clear late for a strong 16.61 victory, which was also the best of the day. Street Beast was the other winner for Craig, with the black dog also putting in a super strong performance to win impressively. In a strong event over the 350m trip, he came out well and went to push up the track early. Midrace, he still had a bit of work to do and was a few lengths off the lead, but with 100m left to go he put in the big strides and quickly made ground. After levelling up to the lead towards the line, he surged past to win in 19.21.
