GAP SA’s Adoption Days are a great way to get to know the breed and find a dog that suits your lifestyle.

Greyhounds as Pets’ (GAP SA) highly successful adoption program is back on the road, with Gawler residents set to enjoy their first ever GAP SA Adoption and Foster Day on Saturday 1 April.

An initiative of Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA), GAP SA finds fur-ever homes for both retired and non-racing greyhounds. Now in its 25th year, the program continues to go from strength to strength, with a record 488 dogs adopted last financial year.

GAP SA Manager Nicole Massey said the team was delighted to be heading back to the regions following its inaugural Adoption and Foster Day in Mt Gambier last September.

“We’re so excited to be hosting our first ever Gawler Adoption Day – it’s been great to have these opportunities to take greyhounds out to the regions and introduce the breed to new people,” she said.

“GAP Adoption Days are as much about asking questions and getting to know the breed as they are about finding forever homes for our dogs.

“We encourage all Gawler residents to drop in and say hi, pat the dogs and ask our knowledgeable team any questions you might have about greyhound care, your own personal circumstances and how a greyhound may fit into your lifestyle.”

The team will set up kennels for around 16 dogs at the Gawler Racing Club, with local residents encouraged to visit any time between 11am and 2pm for a chat and a pat – no appointment or commitment necessary.

“There’s every chance that you’ll fall in love with one of the greyhounds we’ll be bringing with us, but once the team get to know you, they may have another greyhound in mind that’s better suited to your lifestyle and can help you with that process,” Nicole said.

“It’s also fine if you’re new to the idea of fostering or adopting, and just want to learn a little more – everyone is welcome!”

Those residents hoping to take their new best friend home on the day will need to supply photographs of their backyard and any existing pets to ensure the greyhound of their choice suits their lifestyle, and that adequate fencing can be provided.

GAP SA sets the standard for greyhound rehoming in Australia and works to provide the highest standards of welfare to these beautiful animals both on and off the track.More information about Greyhounds as Pets and the adoption and foster process is available at gapsa.org.au

GAP SA’s Gawler Adoption and Foster Day will be held from 11am – 2pm, Saturday 1 April at the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club, Nixon Terrace Gawler.
