MEDIA RELEASE – TONIGHTS ANGLE PARK PREVIEW

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

What a night of racing we have tonight.  Five heats of the Triple M Adelaide Cup with a sprinkle of interstate performers and a handy lot of local runners engaged.  It will be a terrific night of racing and I think we have a very good night of punting ahead of us.

Race 1, and we can kick the night off with a winner in Mr Pipeline.  He has a picket fence beside his name and looks the leader from box 1.  The main dangers are Well Quoted and Linguist who will be rattling home late and could be the surprise packet.  Box up 1-4-6-8.

The next event on the card is an interesting race.  The best dog in this is Contrarian, but he has drawn box 5 and can be very much hit and miss on box rise.  So my money will be on Mr Papagiorgio, another who has drawn box 1.  Box Up 1-3-5-8.

Race 3 has unfortunately been hit by scratchings so a small field of 5 will go around.  The main player looks to be the front running Dyna Aline who is more than capable and should be able to pinch a winning break.  The inform Victa Scott to run second with Montana Express to run a cheeky race.  Box up 3-4-6-8.

The first of the Cup Heats and we see the exciting Peter Rocket, who should lead and win.  He has won here in the past and looks too smart.  The main danger is a Rob Britton performer in Farmor Las Vegas who keeps on winning.  The local hope in Encosta Kahn has drawn perfectly down in box 1 and can fill a place.  Box up 1-3-6-8.

Race 5 and it looks the book ends in this event.  Kokoda Spirit loves this track and won the Oaks here in a slick 29.61, that time should win this race.  The big big danger is the Jason Thompson Ronan Izmir from box 1.  He trialled here in 29.77 and has the perfect draw.  Add the local in Kalden Kurageous and that appears the trifecta.  Box up 1-2-7-8.

Race 6, and it looks like Tomac Bale has a mortgage on this race after the scratching of Phenomenal.  He should lead and will win this race and book his spot next week.  The locals will give a good sight but might be outclassed.  Box up 1-3-4-7.

Heat 4 and the BEST BET of the night is Iona Seven.  She loves this venue and is coming off two good wins at Sandown in times of 29.18 & 29.37.  She is a smart type who can win this.  The main dangers are Dyna Cari for the Dailly kennel and Bubba’s Dream, who could be the smokey.  Box up 1-3-4-6.

Race 8 and this is an outstanding heat with an interstater in Powerhouse who has trialled here in a quick 29.65 and the local star in Ernie Bung Arrow.  Both are very smart chasers.  It is a toss of a coin who can win this.  Box Up 1-3-6-8 and GO Ernie.

The Distance event appears a one act affair with the Rob Britton trained Mimicking who has drawn box 1 here and is another who has a terrific strike rate at this venue.  He won here 3 starts back from this draw defeating Kalden Mayhem and has been placed since at the Meadows.  The only dangers, if any, are Husky Dreamer and Mclaren Prince.  Box Up 1-3-7-8.

Race 10 and I am going with the early pace in Dyna Erwin, he has the perfect draw of 1 and should hold the early lead.  One that will be charging home late will be Kaylarikki from box 6, and will be right in the mix.  Box up 1-3-5-6.

The last on a terrific card of racing  and we will go for pace, that is Power Merc for Angela Modra in box 6.  She has pace but gets the wobbles over the last 50m.  Galaxy Snow is by far the best dog in the race but tends to find one better each week.  Lake Burley can fill a place along with Wicked Shiraz.  Box Up 1-2-3-6.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

Embarrassing Situations!
A very shy guy goes into a bar and sees a beautiful woman sitting at the other end. After an hour of gathering up his courage he finally goes over to her and asks, tentatively, "Um, would you mind if I chatted with you for a while?" To which she responds by yelling, at the top of her lungs, "No, I won't sleep with you tonight!" By now, the entire bar is staring at them. Naturally, the guy is hopelessly and completely embarrassed and he slinks back to his table. After a few minutes, the woman walks over to him and apologizes. She smiles at him and says, "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I'm a graduate student in psychology and I'm studying how people respond to embarrassing situations." To which he responds, at the top of his lungs, "What do you mean $200!"

“ERNIE” IN FIRST LISTING OF TOP GUN INVITATIONS RELEASED

The top 29 nominations for the Top Gun have been released this week with Ernie Bung Arrow the only South Australian greyhound receiving an invite. The Top Gun is by invitation only and is worth $150,000 to the winner and will be run on Saturday 26th October at the Meadows. The final invitations will be sent out on Sunday 13th October, only a few days after the Adelaide Cup so there will be a little bit more riding on next weeks Group 1 final.  There are six greyhounds in the top 29 who are competing in the Adelaide Cup Heats tonight being Ernie Bung Arrow, Hawk Alone, Iona Seven, Peter Rocket, Ronan Izmir and Tomac Bale.

JASON THOMPSON GREYHOUNDS FLY IN TRIALS LAST WEEK

No stranger to Adelaide Cup success, Jason Thompson trialled three of his best chances in this year’s Cup last Thursday night at Angle Park with all flying around the Cardigan Street circuit in brilliant times.  Ronan Izmir trialled after race 1 and stopped the clock at a sizzling 29.77 for the 515m journey with Powerhouse slightly more impressive after race 2 rating a slick 29.65. Phenomenal then rated a sizzling 29.67 after race 3 however he has been scratched from the series.

Jason hoping to take home another Cup after winning with Whippy’s Image in 2008 and El Galo in 2009.

GROUP 3 GOLD COAST CUP HEATS

Not only do we have five fantastic heats of the Group 1 Triple M  Adelaide Cup on tonight at Angle Park there is also four quality heats of the Group 3 Gold Coast Cup on at Albion Park which includes two of the best sprinters in the Nation, Glen Gallon and Punch One Out. Tattsbet will also be offering fixed odds on all heats and First 4 Jackpots.

TRAINERS FEE PAID INTO ACCOUNTS FOR PUBLIC HOLIDAY

Due to Mondays Public Holiday the Trainers Fee for Angle Park on Monday night will be paid directly into Trainers accounts. This is the simplest way on this day for trainers to receive their money.

RUSH HOUR RETURN’S WITH A FOURTH

The Triple M Racing Syndicate greyhound debuted yesterday over the 388m at Angle Park running an encouraging fourth. She comes back to South Australia after 11 starts in WA where she won 3 races. Rush Hour Return is SA Bred and eligible for Grade 6 events. She is being trained by Laurie Cahalan who was pleased with her first up run after 6 weeks off the track. She is going to trial on Saturday morning and will be racing on Adelaide Cup Final night next Thursday over the 515m. Rush Hour Return follows on from Rush Hour who raced for Triple M over the last two Adelaide Cup series winning around $5,000 for charity. Rush Hour Return will be racing for the Make A Wish foundation and I know that Roo and Ditts are very excited with chance for her to assist this charities on behalf or Triple M.

CHASING THE GOLDEN BONE SYNDICATE DOG IN ON MONDAY

Black Merlo for the Castle Plaza Tavern Syndicate is in again on Monday night after running a handy fourth last week. He looked like he was going to go straight past the leader of the back straight but was checked and only battled to the line. He has drawn box 8 on Monday night, the same box he won from on debut so hopefully it can be another good result for the lucky owners.  He is in Race 10 Monday night due to jump at 9.10pm.

PORT AUGUSTA PREVIEW – OCTOBER 12

The next Port Augusta meeting will be held on Saturday 12th October which sees the feature running of the All Stars Best Dogs and Bitches over the 503metres for greyhounds whelped on or before 1st July 2011.

The racing programme starts at 1.00pm at Chinnery Park, Port Augusta West.

On the programme there will also be a Country Cup Heat for South Australian trained greyhounds  with the final of this event scheduled for Gawler Cup Final night on Sunday 3rd November.

Nominations close with GRSA at 9.00am on Tuesday 8th October.

The main event of the previous meeting, held on AFL Grand Final Day was won by Montana Express trained by Kenneth Myers. Leading trainer Don Turner had a double with Cee Walker in the maiden and Out To Win in a grade 6 event, with both dogs being well supported.

Brenton Cleggett from Laura won with Clint’s Jessie earlier in the week and the greyhound won again with an impressive win in 25.22 sec. over 447 metres.

Regular attendees Graham Brown from Whyalla won a Grade 6 race with Elizabeth Parker, whilst Brenton Pouse from Kadina won the other with Blaze McBain.

Another dog trained by Gary Rawlings of Whyalla, Always Something, is a Chinnery Park specialist having had its fourth win at this track.

There are a few greyhounds to follow from this meet – Chestnut Brown, Panic King, Big Merc, Yore Twista and Burman’s Boots. All should perform well when next they return to the Northern grass track.

This will process will continue so please have the correct money available to assist the race night staff. Race fields will still be available oncourse.

BOOKMAKER PETER DAMARELL ONCOURSE EVERY WEDNESDAY AT ANGLE PARK

Bookmaker Peter Damarell will be on-course every Wednesday betting competitive fixed odd markets on the full programme at Angle Park. Peter will also display all bookmaker prices from the thoroughbred meetings in South Australia and the meetings in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This is a major bonus for oncourse patrons as there will now be no need to make the long drive to Gawler, Balaklava, Murray Bridge or Strathalbyn as the very same bookmakers prices will be available at Angle Park every Wednesday. Touch screens have also been installed at Angle Park to assist with race form every meeting.

Punters can enjoy the comfort of the Angle Park betting auditorium and it’s free to get in. No more hot or cold old betting rings after a long drive. Why not give it a try?

2013 SA COUNTRY CUP HEATS START NEXT WEEKEND

Below are details of how and where greyhounds can qualify for the $5,000 ($3,150, $900, $450, $100 unplaced) Country Cup Final, to be run at Gawler over 531 metres on Gawler Cup Final night Sunday 3rd November 2013. The Country Cup will be rotated each year between Gawler and Strathalbyn to be held on each clubs Cup night.

Conditions

·         All South Australian Greyhound Racing Clubs outside of Angle Park will conduct heats, or nominate greyhounds from which the Greyhound Racing SA Grading Department will choose two representatives.

·         The event is open to all South Australian greyhounds that are not above Grade 5 at Angle Park (APK & APM meetings only) over 515 metres at the time of nomination. Winner of each event takes a penalty including the final.

·         Graders’ discretion will be used to determine the best nominated.

·         The greyhound must be SA trained.

o    A South Australian trained greyhound is defined as one that has been racing in SA for a period of not less than 3 out of the 6 months immediately prior to the time of nomination.

·         The greyhound must have started at least 2 times in the last 12 months at the track it is attempting to represent.

·         There will be a maximum of two heats per Club with the winners of each heat qualifying. If there is only one heat conducted then the first two placegetters will qualify.

·         The two reserves will be determined firstly by a ballot of the second placegetters from all heats. The third placegetters will then be considered by ballot if required. If a heat was not conducted at the track, then that track is not included in the ballot. Should a greyhound be withdrawn prior to the ballot, the next placed greyhound from that Club’s heat will be selected.

·         Once a greyhound has qualified from a Qualifying Heat, it is not eligible to compete at another track in this series, unless there are insufficient nominations to fill the field.
