On an epic card of racing on Adelaide Cup night at Angle Park, we will see a terrific staying race with the $10,000 to the winner of the Premier's Cup bringing together a strong field.

The South Australian superstar Zipping Neutron will start favourite for the race, as he aims to make it 15 wins from his last 16 starts. Since arriving in the state in the middle of this year, he has proven totally dominant, winning by many lengths each week and running hot times. His last two wins have resulted in flying 42.67 and 42.76 victories and a repeat of either of those two runs will most likely have him winning.

It won’t be all smooth sailing for Zipping Neutron as he will face some stern opposition for the first in a while, with a Victorian raider in Moraine Suzie likely to give him something to think about. The brindle bitch has been a top-class stayer in Victoria for an extended period of time, with her trained Brendan Pursell opting to miss the Sydney Cup at Wentworth Park in preference of this race. She is super strong and with any luck in the race she can storm over the top.

The other hopes for the race don’t end there, with Zipping Senorita and Fantastic Radley ready to show their best for the race. Zipping Senorita arrives into the race fresh whilst Fantastic Radley will be coming off a red hot 38.77 victory at Murray Bridge, a win that signified he is back to his best.

Despite all the competitiveness of the race, it will take a good run to overturn Zipping Neutron, with his last four runs, producing very strong efforts. His last loss was in the National Distance Final five starts ago and he has seemingly gone from strength to strength since. The form has thrilled his trainer Tim Aloisi, who is in complete praise of the dog and his former trainer Michael Hardman.

“I’m really happy with (Zipping) Neutron’s form since the Nationals, winning 4 from 4. He hasn’t done a thing wrong since coming to South Australia, winning 14 of his 15 starts.” said Aloisi

“It’s also a big credit to Michael Hardman as the dog arrived in great shape and was ready to go.”

With no distance race held last Thursday at Angle Park, it meant that Aloisi had to do something different with Zipping Neutron in preparation for the race, with an incredible trial at Gawler suggesting that he is going to be awfully hard to beat in the race.

“There was no 730m race for him last week so the preparation was slightly different this week. I decided to change it up and I trialled him in between races on Friday at Gawler, which was his first look at the track. He went over the 643m trip and went absolutely super, running splits of 9.17-21.95-36.90 (track record is 36.81), breaking 15 on the run home, so very happy with the preparation going into the race and he couldn’t be feeling any better.” said Aloisi

It’s a terrific field that has been assembled and it should be an epic clash. Zipping Neutron has drawn box four which he has handled well in the past. The speed map looks good for him and if he does jump well then, he’s going to give the others plenty of catch. Aloisi is confident in his charger but concedes that there is some very good opposition in the race.

“What a great field and final it will be. Some top quality stayers going around. It’s great to see Brendan Pursell bringing such a high quality stayer in Moraine Suzie to Adelaide for the cup and also very exciting to have Fantastic Radley back over the 730m distance after a great win over the 680m trip at Murray Bridge, it should be an exciting race.” said Alosi

“I’m pretty happy with the box draw. I think from box four, ‘Ronny’ (Zipping Neutron) is where he likes to be. If he jumps and gets on the arm then I think he will run some serious time and be very hard to beat, but he will have to be at his best because Moraine Suzie is a class act and a proven group stayer, she will be running on very strongly. Fantastic Radley shouldn’t be overlooked either, he is the current track record holder and his stayer record speaks for itself.”

The Premier’s Cup will jump at 8:32pm local time.
