Trainer Gavin Harris continued his stellar start to 2024, with his short-course star Zinfandel Evie taking out the 2024 Gawler Breeders final on Sunday night.
The Gawler Breeders was the first in the 2024 series, which is designed for SA Bred greyhound born between January and June in 2022.
With a number of up-and-coming young chasers in the race, it was an intriguing final with the two favourites in Zinfandel Evie and Play In Reign, for trainer Robyn Mackellar drawn in boxes one and three respectively.
The two favourites both jumped to an early lead with Play In Reign holding an early advantage but eventually Zinfandel Evie was able to show her class, fighting through on the rail to win in 22.46 and winning by two lengths ahead of Play In Reign while Weblec Delight for Kim Johnstone ran into third spot.
It was career win number 12 for Zinfandel Evie at start number 23 but boasts a perfect nine for nine record over the short course distance of 400m or less.
The Breeders win was another feature race success for trainer Gavin Harris who has claimed the John Gray and Gawler Golden Maiden already in 2024 while his star stayer contested the Group 1 Super Stayers final in Melbourne recently.
While Mackellar ran second with Play In Reign, another impressive chaser from her kennel in Blazing Butters was able to produce a good run to win from box five in 30.95 over the 531m trip.
Trainer Kim Johnstone also enjoyed a good Sunday at Gawler, backing up her third place finisher in the Breeders final with a pair of winners.
The first was Glisten, who won a grade six race over the 400m trip by showing plenty of early speed from box five and then making the most of clear running in front to win in 22.88.
Clear view completed the double winning a grade five race with a nice run from box eight, powered by an 8.82 first split before winning in 22.87.
Tim Richards also grabbed a double on the card with a pair of reliable veterans producing excellent performances.
In the 643m distance event, it was Oh Louise who took the honours with a nice performance from box two in holding off Warringah Bale.
The 37.49 win was career win number 17 at start number 64 for Oh Lousie as it continues to enjoy the step up to the distance events.
Coorong Cam completed the double, stopping the clock in a blistering 30.57 over te 531m as he continues to enjoy the Gawler track.
From box four, Coorong Cam was able to find the early lead in a hot field crossing over on the turn and getting away and winning by six lengths.
The victory was career win number 27 from start number 68 and continues an excellent record for the SA Bred star at Gawler having won his past three at the track.

Victa Jayde and Hot Centipede both claimed victories in the final two races on the card, with Victa Jayde winning from box seven in 23.19 while Hot Centipede won from box five in 23.21.
