It was just a regular Tuesday meeting at the Murray Bridge Straight, however, it proved to be a fantastic day for Yvonne Maxwell, with her small team of three dogs that she took to the track, taking out every race they partook in, making it a rare treble for the small trainer.

Yvonne has only recently moved to the popular training centre of Lewiston, and just has a small team of race dogs with a few pups to keep her busy too. Her up-and-coming bitch in Petina started the day off on Tuesday for Yvonne, winning super impressively by weaving a passage and breaking free in a sharp 16.69. The improved Calais Prince made it two, leading all the way in a flying 16.50, before the honest combatant in Love And Rain made it a treble. Yvonne certainly felt a level of satisfaction when the dogs were able to perform so well.

“To have three and the whole three to win, I know it was no top class, but you try to place them where they're gonna win.’ said Yvonne

It was a triumphant day for Yvonne, who has been without a lot of success for a short period now.

“I reckon I’ve had doubles before, like last year with the good litter I had. You get a bit spoiled with a good litter, it’s been about a year that I’ve been struggling trying to get them all right and going good.”

Yvonne is certainly not a regular to Murray Bridge, and the choice to race them at the Straight Track was more from circumstance than anything else.

“Well I wasn’t going to nominate them, it was only because I’m going back to Whyalla this weekend. I thought there was nowhere else I could really run them.”

The form of Petina has been most pleasing for Yvonne, with the home bred bitch continuing to improve with each run she’s having.

“She’s not even jumping, she’s always like the last one out, she just weaves through the field. She’s really surprised me. “

“She went to go right and then the four dog was there, then she pulled back and went around him, then went through the other two. Every race she does, she puts in an amazing run.”

The recent form of Yvonne’s dogs has been simply terrific, and she puts it down to a change in feeding routine. Of the last 16 times her dogs have raced, only once have any of them missed a top three placing.

“I go to the track and I see everyone’s dogs and think they’re skinny! So I’ve cut down on the food a bit. I’ve probably been a bit generous on the food!”

Well done to Yvonne and hopefully her good run can continue!
