Young trainer Ben Rawlings has kept his good record going with another winner at Gawler greyhounds on Tuesday.

In the Bob Taplin Stake over 531m, it took a while to sort out a leader. Going past the finish post the first time, George Again (5) was able to forge to the lead from Kenta Bale (4) and Red Hot Cherry (1).

Down the back straight George Again was travelling well and was able to set up a 4 length break over Red Hot Cherry. Wild Soul (2) started running on well and making ground rapidly on the leader. That run continued right to the line, but George Again was too strong and went on to win by 1 ¼ lengths in the time of 31.20 secs.

Wild Soul put in an encouraging run to take second placing for trainer Kim Johnstone of Two Wells, and Red Hot Cherry finished third for Mick Giniotis of Two Wells.

George Again is a fawn dog trained at Lewiston by Ben Rawlings for Trevor Thiele. George has been a handy performer, registering 5 wins and 9 placings from 23 starts. Ben recently had the thrill of preparing Bogie Magic, the winner of the Gawler Gold Cup, and is one of the younger brigade of young trainers in the state. With a training record of 69 TAB winners as at 30th November, Ben features highly on the trainer’s premiership.

Tony Rasmussen had his best record at Gawler in some time when he prepared the winners Looks Like Dad, Dyna Elvis and Sienna Bale. Karen Wittholz and Rebecca McAuley-Fry kept the multiples running both scoring doubles. Karen enjoyed success with maiden winner Kitty Blue and Summit, while Rebecca led in Hearts of Fire and Feed Me More.

There is a different schedule of racing at Gawler in December, but still racing every Tuesday. Two of these meetings are Christmas and New Year’s Eve, so if you haven’t been for a while, it is something special to do in the holidays. In addition there is racing on Sunday 22nd (twilight) and Friday 27th (afternoon).
