2014 SA Young Person’s Achievement Award

2014 SA Volunteer of the Year

Joint winners Neil Wright and Yvonne King were nominated by Tony Hinrichsen from the Southern Greyhound Raceway.

Neil has been the track curator at Strathalbyn for many years. Turning 80 last year hasn’t slowed him down with him putting in many hours at the venue. He spends up to 40 hours a week making sure the track is in good order for racing and also ensures that the venue is clean and tidy, maintenance work has been carried out and that all things are in order for racing and trialing. The increased schedule at Strathalbyn due to the redevelopment at Gawler has meant that Neil has taken on an even greater work load and has become an extremely valuable member of the Strathalbyn team.

Yvonne took over the running of the canteen two years ago adding to her commitments on the Strathalbyn committee. She travels to Adelaide every week ensuring supplies are available for patrons on race days and introduced a new menu. She also assists on trial nights with timing and assists with the preparation of the venue by way of cleaning kennels and washing greyhound rugs. She is a permanent fixture in the canteen ensuring all runs well and with a smile on her face. It is hard to believe but she still makes time to train, whelp and rear greyhounds for an industry she loves.
