The past week at the Bridge...

Friday (1-Turn)

Just the one meeting this week at the Bridge with the Melbourne Cup taking over on Tuesday.

We started with a 680m race which is becoming somewhat a rarity with the move back to Angle Park. It was an upset result for the first with Snowy Jinx coming from behind to run down the kennel mate in Mai Tai Focus. Michael Giniotis has been having a terrific run lately with his small kennel.

We had litter mates (Aston Dee Bee x Purpose Driven) in Our Boy Jake and Little Purpose take out the second and third races of the day in neat fashion. It’s turning into a handy litter this one with a few showing ability, including these two.

One of the wins of the day went to Mississippi Blue who started a $5.50 chance in a small field. The blue dog was only fairly away with his 5.19 first split, before proceeding to stay a few lengths off the fence in the run. He started making ground around the turn before exploding down the home straight and clocking a ridiculous 22.12 (albeit on a quick track), but the win was brilliant.

The last of the day produced a cracking race with Victa Mikey and Aston Marlon squaring off for a good percentage of the race. It was an epic battle up the straight with Aston Marlon getting the nose down at the right time to score a great win.

Victa Kurt went the fastest of the day for the 395m trip as he scored a very tough 22.11 victory. Bella Sweet led the race and applied plenty of pressure to Kurt but he was simply too strong and bustled up on the rail before racing away.

Spring Ammo clocked the quickest time for the 455m journey with his cracking 25.26 run. He’s a dog that’s going super and has probably got a nice race in him at some point.

Dog to follow: Gemtree Apollo - A really good run on Friday, only getting run down by a length to the last start Gawler Cup winner - Victa Grosso. He was able to find the front and just kept finding before Grosso finally got past. Gemtree Apollo has had a few runs back this preparation now so is back to full fitness. If he can just be left alone for a little bit in his races then he can certainly match it with the best of them.
