The use of the Gawler Oval for the Gawler Show weekend has caused racing to be transferred to Angle Park. But that didn’t deter the locals from making their mark at greyhound headquarters on Tuesday.

In the Arclight Photography Stake over 515m, Ray’s Impact from box 1 briefly led, but Emerley Senorita (4) soon got to the front from Kalden Kostello (6) and Captain Clancey (3). Through the catching pen area and Emerley Senorita had drifted off the rails a little, but Kalden Kostello wasn’t able to take advantage of the opportunity.

This allowed Emerley Senorita to skip away to a 2 length break over Kalden Kostello, a margin that was maintained to the finish. Emerley Senorita ran a very sound 29.89 secs, a time not normally attained on a day meeting at Angle Park. Kalden Kostello ran second for Troy Murray of Two Wells, while Captain Clancey which had run a little wide in the race, finished third for Kim Johnstone also of Two Wells.

Emerley Senorita is trained at Two Wells by Peter Hurley and owned in partnership with his wife Judi. Peter and Judi breed, rear, educate and train all of their own stock, so any win is a satisfying achievement for them. As Peter is on the sick list at the moment, the win would have been a bit of a fillip for him. Emerley Senorita has now chalked up 10 wins and 6 placings from 40 starts, so she has been a consistent performer.

Ray Murray was the only trainer to go home with a double. Dashing Canute kicked it off by leading all the way from box 7 to score, while Caramel Flirt was always well placed in the field, with both greyhounds running a fast time. Ray’s son Jarrad added to the family result when was successful in the last race with Proven Juddy, which also ran a very fast time and led all the way.

Racing resumes at Gawler next Sunday 7th September with a twilight meeting, which signals the returning to the normal schedule of Tuesday afternoon and Sunday twilight meetings.
