Greyhound racing was at Gawler on Wednesday and Friday last week. On Wednesday afternoon we saw a strong twelve race program which was dominated by one of SA’s leading greyhound trainers Troy Murray. His chain of winners kicked off in race four when Mr. Bellagio led all of the way from box one and ran a time of 23.05 over 400 meters. He has now won his last two races starts and he is developing into a nice honest greyhound.

Troy’s next win happened in race seven with one of his kennel starts Came And Went proving too strong for the rest of field. He ran a time of 22.89 over 400 meters. That was his 13th career win from 33 starts and that run was an indication that he is gradually returning to his best form. Troy’s third and final winner happened in race eleven when Impress Us scored his first South Australian win after leading all of the way over the longer distance of 643 meters. It was an impressive run considering it was his first look at the track. His previous form interstate before coming to SA indicated he could run over the longer distance. That was his ninth win from 39 starts but his first win for Troy Murray.

We also saw another 12 race program of greyhound racing at Gawler on Friday afternoon. Friday was headlined by the strong training performance by Lewiston trainer Steven Brook who scored a double. His first winner occurred in race six when his new greyhound Maxwell Hammer had his first start in South Australia. The ex New South Wales chaser led for a majority of the race to run a time of 23.07. Steven’s other chaser Flash Banner led all of the way for a 22.80 victory to make it two wins in a row. Another highlight of the day was when popular trainer Kelvin Douglas scored a 531 meter winner. His greyhound Diamond Carat led all of the way from box five and ran a time of 31.42.

Sunday night racing returns to Gawler this weekend. Make sure you head up to the Nixons Function Centre to catch all of the action.
