Friday (One-turn)
Trainer Ed Burrett may have found himself a handy pup in the form of Mrs. Nelson, who won with a strong effort on Friday. After a pleasing effort last week for her first look at the track, she lined up again from box five over the 395m trip. She jumped nicely and was allowed time to muster her way to an early lead, before they went into the turn. At the top of the straight, she looked good, but did have a challenger right on her heels and it was tight tussle the rest of the way home. In the end, Mrs. Nelson was not going to give in and held on to win in a handy 22.46. With good box manners and a bit of strength at the back end, it sets up nicely for her to win a few more!

Dave Peckham enjoyed a training double for the afternoon. Federal Command (Superior Panama x Zipping Lass) was the first and he lined up for his second start over the 395m trip, after debuting last week in good fashion. From the wide box eight draw, he came out well but had to cover some ground out wide. Turning into the home straight, he took over and from there was in complete control, strolling home for a 22.77 victory. A newcomer to Dave’s kennel in the form of Federal Fernando stepped out for his first South Australian start and he was very impressive. From box four over the short trip, he was crossed initially and showed some smarts to go around the leader, before getting his head in front as they went around the turn. In the straight, he kept on powering away and won really well in a quick 22.34, which is an excellent effort for his first start at the track. A well deserved day for Dave!

Peter Mcavaney has got his chaser Tiger Worm going fantastically at the moment, as he won in dominant fashion on Friday. After putting together some improved performances recently, he lined up from a favourable box two draw, over the 395m start. He stepped cleanly when the boxes opened and quickly mustered his way to the lead, before extending his margin as he went into the turn. By the time he crossed the finish line and stopped the clock at 22.50, he had put seven lengths on the field, signifying an excellent victory.

Dog to follow: Springvale Dave - I suspect he’s had a couple of injury niggles, but he returned after a 5 week spell on Friday. From box one, he was crossed early, before trying valiantly behind Mrs. Nelson, eventually going down by a narrow margin in good time. That was a much improved effort compared to recent starts and he won’t have to wait long to return to the winners list.

Tuesday (Straight track)
It was a big day for Jack Trengove on Tuesday, picking up a training treble for the afternoon. Two Broke Girls was the first of his trio as she stepped out for her second start since joining Jack’s care. From box eight over the 300m trip, she came out quickly to find the early lead, before working her way down to the rail. At no stage did she look in any trouble, winning well in 17.13 and looking particularly good out in front. Spiteful then returned to the winners list in the next race, following a string of good runs this preparation. From box six, he came out well but found himself amongst some early bumping, before balancing up in second. A quick burst midrace saw him power to the lead, before gripping on in a fantastic finish to win in 17.14. Up There Billy added yet another victory to his brilliant Murray Bridge record, to give Jack the treble. Back over the 350m trip, he handled box eight with ease to win in a close finish, running 19.51 himself. Well done Jack and the team!

The only dog to break the ‘17’ barrier on the afternoon was the Ashlee Griffiths trained Uno Peanut, who returned after a short spell. From box three over the 300m distance, he came out quickly to lead with a slick 4.38 first split. Whilst he was somewhat challenged for the majority of the race, he was simply too quick, winning in 16.80 and looking very stylish in doing so. That was an excellent straight track debut and I would be surprised if he doesn’t turn out to be a very handy straight dog!

Dog to follow: Tannah’s Express - She is in great form at the moment. Going into her grade 6 over the 350m trip on Tuesday, she had competed against good quality dogs and not been far away. A blunder out of boxes put her out of the race on Tuesday, but she was still able to get within three lengths off the winner, despite the ground she lost early. She will be winning very soon!
