Tracie Price has been a dominant force in SA racing for the first period of 2022, with the Compton local having scored 45 winners thus far for the year. On Sunday at Mount Gambier, Tracie achieved a new feat, a career best seven winners on the one programme. Taking a team of 14 to the track, Tracie had a couple of favourites and looked a good chance to land a few winners, but to take home 7 of the 11 races, was just complete excellence.

I thought a few of them were well placed, and that maybe we could get four or five… but to get seven was really good.” said Price

The day not only signified a career best for Tracie, but also a record at Mount Gambier, with no trainer having ever achieved the feat before.

I’ve had six twice but seven is the record here now. It’s all about having good dogs around you though. I’m hoping it won’t be the last time I do it, but you walk away from the track after a good day and it’s pretty pleasing.”

Tracie doesn’t have a massive team of race dogs, so to have won as many as he has so far, is a massive effort and credit to the dedication he and the team gives his dogs.

I've got 26 race kennels, which are mostly full of race dogs. I’ve got a 60 dog permit which is about what we have with a few litters of pups. I’ve got 16 to break in from the next crop with pups out of Headline and Miss Freelove.”

We like to breed our own and race our own but we've got some pretty good owners that buy dogs and send us some. To get to the three dogs like the ‘Banjo’ ones we’ve got has been really good, because they are just good dogs.”

Outside of running his kennel, Tracie and his wife also run a successful pet food processing operation.

We’ve got a pet food processing plant and a little outlet shop as well. We supply a lot of meat into Adelaide. We’ve got 13 people working in the business plus myself and my wife.”

The immediate future for Tracie will be to have a crack at the upcoming Mount Gambier Cup, with a couple of his faster dogs, whilst he is also looking forward to unveiling one of his new hounds to the kennel.

Minnie Banjo and Giant’s Flash will be set for the Cup, and probably Right Way.”

I don’t know if I can turn Chuck Rocks around, but he’s the fastest dog I've ever put around post to post. We just have to get him cleared because he’s got a fighting charge. I can’t wait to put him around though, just hopefully he doesn’t do anything wrong!”

Well done to Tracie and his team!
