Too Close To Call

Close finishes are pretty common at the Gawler greyhounds and on Tuesday, in one race they couldn’t get any closer.

Race 5 was the Pets Tucker Stake for Grade 6 greyhounds, over the 400m distance. Snappa Chenyay jumped to the front from box 1 to narrowly lead Cette Course (2) and Shadow Puzzle (5). Shortly after, Snappa Chenyay was quickly shuffled back through the field and Shadow Puzzle surged to the lead by about 2 lengths.

Cette Course then took the rails run and it got out to lead by a couple of lengths , but Big Time (4) was following closely along the rails. Big Time peeled off the back of Cette Sails and went to the outside to take on the leader. They went to the line locked together and that was how the judge saw it too. Even with precise technology they could not be separated and we ended up with a dead heat for first, something of a rarity at the track.

The joint winners in the time of 23.34 secs were Cette Sails, trained by Gary Rawlings from Whyalla for his wife, Lois, and Big Time, trained by Bosko Stamenkovic from Two Wells, for Cameron and Yvonne Butcher. Aston Fort, which made up a lot of ground, ran third for Nicole Price of Renmark.

Bosko ended up having a good day out, as apart from this shared win, he prepared the winners Faustina Charm and Vuchko.

Also having a good result at the meeting was Christies Beach trainer Ken Myers, who has a small team and only brought two greyhounds to the track. However he did pretty well, winning with Remember Cestria and a second placing in the following race with Noble Rock.

Racing continues every Tuesday afternoon, with the next Sunday twilight being on 4th August and a Friday afternoon meeting on 9th August.
