TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

We have two terrific finals on the programme tonight. Both events are sponsored by WEST END, which does happen to be the product the Shadow drinks!!!  The Sprint is a ripper with several chances with a lot of early pace in the event.  The Distance is between an up and comer who hasn’t had even a handful of starts and a classy stayer who charged home to qualify last Thursday.  The other nine races are all pretty even and we should have a good night on the punt.

Race 1, the winner will definitely be from the inside brigade.  Let’s go with Chemical Maker, he can be hit or miss but box 2 is a big help.  The main dangers look to be Fire Tyson and the speedy Dee Dee Corsair who will give this a huge shake.  Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 2 number 2 is Regal Looper.  He looks a good thing for mine and should kick off a very good night for the Butcher kennel.  Add in the pacey Wingard for Des Hockley along with Omar Bale who will be running on late.  Box up 2.3.4.5.

Race 3 and tonight is the night we see if Dustnado can return to the winners circle.  He has been well beaten of late in tougher company but gets his chance to salute.  Brace yourself if he does as he is very smart when on the bunny.  Box up 1.2.4.7

The 600m event tonight looks like the book ends here and I’m sticking with Emerley Lover to hold the lead from box 1 for the Murray camp.  Pedros First is beautifully boxed out in the pink and will be right in the mix.  Add in Dyna Daina and Fair Change for value.  Box up 1.2.3.8

Race 5 and Encosta Kahn has the draw in 7 and will carve across early and will be the one they have to catch.  The dangers look to be Defib Daryl but he can be hit or miss early.  Box up 2.6.7.8.

The main Sprint event of the Night is race 6 and that is the West End Anniversary Cup.  For mine winning form is good form and it’s hard to go past Sidney’s Shadow.  She is in outstanding form with 3 wins here on the trot and will be the one to catch.  Bogie Magic is well drawn down in box 1 and can hold the rails.  Set The Scene will need to be at his best so he can cross them early.  Box up 1.3.4.7 in a very good race, good luck.

Race 7 and the form runner is Genghis Kahn out in box 7 for the Johnstone kennel.  He needs to be on the pace early and on recent form should be leading.  Benchmark might get the sit and will be rattling home late along with Gilbert Allen.  Box up 1.2.7.8.

The Distance final and both main chances can give you heart failure on box rise.  They seem to look for trouble but I will tip the baby of the field in Luna Jinx.  She rattled home to win here last week in 43.12 by over 5L from box 3 and is having her 4th career run.  Token Mclaren will definitely start favourite, he has 6 wins and 2 placing’s from his 8 runs over this trip.  He has 45 runs beside his name with 19 wins and is drawn for a bold showing.  Box up 1.2.7.8

Race 9 and this is a tough race but Ossie Chegia rarely goes home without a winner and As It Goes bounced back with a win here last start in 30.13.  She looks the one to catch.  Dyna Millier can kick up and run a very cheeky race.  Box up 1.2.6.7.

Race 10 and let’s go the book ends again, Bogie Classic has good pace and can lead from box 8.  Hairy Bear is a favourite of mine but is hit or miss on box rise but very strong.  Nevada Smith loves to run 2nd as he has done in his last 4 starts.  Box up 1.4.5.8.

The last and this is a good betting race.  I have gone with Junta Bale for Lisa Rasmussen, add in Winbrook out in box 8 who is another big chance for the Butcher kennel along with Kalina Allen.  Box up 1.2.3.8.

WEST END DRAUGHT ANNIVERSARY CUP AND DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALS TONIGHT

If last week’s heats were anything to by then tonight’s finals should see some exciting and exhilarating racing. The best greyhounds in the State stepped out over the 515m with three heats of the Anniversary Cup and two heats of the Distance Championship over the staying trip of 731m all looking to qualify for these finals tonight.

The Final of the Anniversary Cup will be Race 6 tonight due to start at 8.29pm with the box draw making for an even tighter contest. The fastest qualifier for tonights feature was the Ray Murray trained Proven Juddy who just kept on finding in the first heat last week when he lead throughout to defeat Very Bitta and Dyna Hakon in a sizzling 29.86. He has drawn handy in box 3 and with his speed should be up in the firing line early.

In the second heat Cameron Butcher produced Sidney’s Shadow for yet another win after she won the SA St Leger last month. She rounded up her rivals with a blistering turn of foot to defeat both Bogie Magic and Lolly Bale in a brilliant 29.94 with all placegetters running nice races. Sidney’s Shadow has drawn box 4 but should get a good cart across with speed on her inside. Both Bogie Magic (box 1) and Lolly Bale (box 7) have drawn well and should also make their presence felt.

In the final heat Contrarian for Leanne Fagan jumped nicely and held on for a game win in a solid 30.16 defeating Set The Scene who flew home over the concluding stages and Allen Illem. Contrarian has drawn well again out of the two but one would suspect he will have to run at his very best to be a chance however Leanne does have her team fining at the moment. Set The Scene as drawn where he likes it out wide in 7 but does have Lolly Bale on his outside which could cause him some early trouble but he is too good to dismiss. The West End Draught Anniversary Cup looks and absolute cracker.

The West End Distance Championship also looks to be a fabulous event as race 8 tonight due to start at 9.11pm. The two heats provided super racing over the staying trip with the fastest qualifier being the rising star of the staying ranks Luna Jinx for Gavin Harris who won in a sizzling 43.12 at only her third lifetime start. She ran home powerfully to win by over 5 lengths from Husky Dreamer, Kaylarikki and Zara Mclaren.  She started favourite last week and should be further improved by the run even though she has drawn of the track in box 7. Kaylarikki should also improve after his first shot over 700m and with his brilliance could be in front for a long way.

In the second heat all eyes were on newly crowned staying greyhound of the year in Token McLaren for Don Foster who was returning to the track after 2 months off racing. He started at a very short quote of $1.25 and at the half way mark after a slow start it didn’t look like he could qualify however he knuckled down over the later part to run second behind impressive front runner Doona Bale for Tony Rasmussen. Doona Bale rated a slick 43.39 for the 731m at her first start over the staying trip and looks one of the leaders again. Token McLaren did a good job to run second and if he can make use of the 1 box tonight should be very hard to hold out with Long Gully Surf and Go Caviar who completed the four qualifiers from last week.

1.      Token McLaren              D Foster

2.      Kaylarikki                        R Burgess
