Tonight's Angle Park Preview

Racing News

THE SHADOW

Tonight’s 2015 Ladbrokes State final nights have brought together a quality line up over both the Sprint (race 8) and the Distance (race 6).  The winner of each event will go on and represent SA in Sydney against the best in Australia. The other 9 events on the programme are more than handy with several chances at each way odds so it looks a good night to have a punt.

Race 1 and there are a few hit and miss beginners in this so I am going with Peejay Jack out in box 7.  He is back in grade tonight and should be carving across early.  Brett’s Magic has been racing well and is a must for trifecta punters.  Add in Kas Kahn and the in-form Aha McBain.  Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 2 and It’s Classified should bounce straight back into the winners circle tonight.  He was a very disappointing 8th in the Champion Puppy Final when an odds on favourite then a very good 3rd in an open event here last week tonight.  The cream will rise to the top and he just WINS.  So he is the stand out.  We will go 4 from 1.2.7.boxed.

This is a 600m event and a top class one at that.  I will be going with early speed and hopefully that comes from Footluce Diva.  She has drawn box 1 and is back to her pet distance.  He Isn’t Really is an interesting runner and can figure at his first 600m start and we can’t forget He’s A Villian out in box 8.  Box Up 1.4.6.8

The 4th and the ultra-versatile Genghis Kahn is perfectly drawn down in box 1 and should continue on his winning way and make it 3 on end.  Yiche will set the pace and is a must for the top 3 along with Dyna Geldof.  Box up 1.3.4.7.

Race 5 and we will go with Wheel Spinner again out in box 8.  He will be very hard to beat with an ounce of early luck.  Ifrit Bale is well drawn down in box 1 and will be running on. Woodside Jagger is more than capable of surprising and looks a good each way bet.  Box Up 1.3.5.8.

The 6th and this is the Distance Final and a very good one at that.  Ben Rawlings has two finalists and both have early pace and are capable of pinching this on their night.  I am going with the Petar Jovanovic trained Psychotic Gold, she has returned in fine style and should only keep on improving.  Grifter Bale is very smart, add in Luna Jinx for the trifecta.  Box up for the First 4,  2.3.4.7.

The 7th and the two likely leaders look to be Valladares and Barnes Bay.  Both haven’t drawn that well but should be in the firing line.  Cash In Looper is very strong and will be rattling home, add in Mobius and Lucky Road for the Trifecta.  Box Up 4 and 8 from 1.3.5.

The Final of the Sprint is race 8 and a very smart one on paper.  Young Gun McBain has the form on the board with 5 wins here on the trot.  He has a good turn of early pace and has a personal best of 29.67 from this draw.  Real Flash was a big improver here last week when 3rd and is a class act when on song.  She has been missing the kick of late but a return to the winners circle wouldn’t be a surprise.  The wide draw will be a help.  Add in Kalden Gambino from box 1 for value.  Box Up 1.2.5.8.

Race 9 and this is a very open betting affair with several chances, so it should be a must for a trifecta and a First 4.  The main hopes look to be Hesa Jayclo and Antonio Tyson.  Both should figure right in the mix.  We can’t leave out Rellim Allan who should be running on late.  Box Up 3.4.5.7

The 10th and another 600m event, but this is a toughie.  The three main hopes for mine look to be Oran Bale and Tahlo, add in Lektra Kelly and that should be the trifecta (I think).  Box Up 1.4.5.7

The final event and we can go home on a winner with Jeddy Bale who has terrific Gawler form and can’t be over looked.  Velocity Vixen and Dyna Wendy are the next best. Box Up 1.4.7.8.

TODD GRAY PREVIEWS THE NATIONAL FINALS TONIGHT

NATIONAL SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP SA FINAL

Well after getting the raw end of the deal in the box draw for last month’s Champion Puppy Final the Murray Kennel got blessed by this box draw this week with Kalden Gambino for father Ray drawing the red which he loves and Real Flash for son Troy who LOVES the pink rug. Real Flash has already tasted Group success by winning the Group 2 WA Oaks however they have got plenty of opposition in tonight’s cracking field. I’ve always had time for Young Gun McBain and he is flying at the moment. His best qualities are that he can do it at both ends, he can lead or come from behind, although will need to be 100% on song to do the latter. Alderley Reform is as honest as they come but could get cluttered up early trying to get to the rails, he is the hardest railer in SA and will finish on if a clear run presents itself.  There is plenty of early speed here and though I don’t think dogs like Margret Keeping and Emerley Senorita (who won her heat) can win here, they sure can dish it up early and maybe cause a little hustle and bustle looking for the lead on the first turn here. Alex’s Entity has a ton of ability but is becoming very hit or miss at the start and can’t afford to miss it here. Of course I have to mention the 2014 Greyhound of the year Wild Soul, he is carrying more injuries then the entire AFL league but yet still finds a way to be completive with the top grade types. I definitely can see him running into the multiples. Father versus son for the Murrays and the good draws to boot but a field full of depth.

I’m going for the upset with Young Gun McBain and would love to see the old timer Wild Soul filling a First 4 spot.

Selections 2-8-1-6

NATIONAL DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP SA FINAL

We have the best of the best here, our best stayers in the State who have been sharing the wins between them every time they meet. Luna Jinx can jump and of course storm home when she’s in the right mood; she will be favourite but has loads of opposition. Her draw isn’t good but this has never affected her before as she is a multiple group race winner and is the one to beat. Psychotic Gold proved too strong for Placid Planet winning her heat after a lengthy spell, she got through the field well and with a clear run will give them a massive shake. Grifter Bale is drawn perfectly, he loves it out wide but could get hit early as Zipping Bart in the 8 box loves to rail and they could clean each other up in the first 100 metres. Placid Planet will be your early leader but against this opposition will need to be a good way in front and on song to hold them out. I think Springvale Clint is the best of the roughies, a good honest railing type and can definite feature on the multiple tickets. Here Comes Henry is a smart type but a little out of his depth here and Allen Warlock is outside chance for the exotics.

Which one of the three favourites will be the first to get a crack at the early leader Placid Planet, I think it’ll be Luna Jinx.

Selections 4-7-2-5

Good luck to all connections in two fantastic finals with the winner of each final representing SA at Wentworth Park later this month for the Group 1 National finals. Each of the Group 1 finals has a winner’s cheque of $75,000.

After strong participant feedback to aid trainers, trial bookings on race days at Gawler Tuesday and Angle Park Wednesday will now be taken between 4.00pm and 4.30pm the day before starting this week. August means that it is coming up to Gawler Show time, so a couple of weeks of racing at Gawler will be transferred to Angle Park this year.

Trials will be cancelled at Gawler on Wednesday 26th August and Thursday 27th August. We will hopefully have the track ready to trial again on Wednesday 2nd September, but this will be dependent on the weather over the show weekend. There will be no Qualifying Trials at Gawler on Wednesday 19th August, as the following Tuesday is at Angle Park. There will be trials as per normal at Angle Park on Tuesday 25th August and Saturday 29th August.

COFFEX COFFEE SA OAKS & BGC INDUSTRIAL CLEANING SUPPLIES SA DERBY

METRES PER SECOND ON THE SEMAPHORE BOARD

Recently GRSA was queried as to why the metres per second figure displayed on the Semaphore Board at Angle Park were incorrect. UPDATED BREEDING RULES FROM 1ST JULY

From the 1st July there will be new breeding rules in place regarding the Registration of a Breeding Female, reporting of Litters and Breeding Restrictions. The Breeding Female is to do with registering your bitch for a Pink Card before you breed from her. She needs to be DNA tested and registered before she can breed. The changes to rules make it clear that all paperwork and processes have to be completed before she can be inseminated. Please update yourself with the new conditions in kennel capers, on the GRSA website or contact GRSA Animal Welfare Officer Belinda Pearce.

RACING IN QUEENSLAND

6)         Trials will be 515m & 531m in distance as first preference. Other distances considered depending on nominations.

9)         Trainers with other greyhounds engaged can utilize the extra kennel space until such time they are ready to leave OR trainers with no other greyhounds will be free to leave following their trial.

Please Note
Kennelling times will be 15 minutes earlier for these meetings from 4th May to allow for these trials.

·         If there are 12 races at Angle Park or Gawler there will be NO trials.

·         The Vet Clinic at these meetings cannot be used to accommodate any greyhounds to allow for extra trialling greyhounds. This policy has been introduced so that participants book in under the policy. The Vet Clinic needs to be available for the Vet and Stewards at race meetings

Exceptions to this Policy–

·         Thursday nights are kept available for the option for Interstate greyhounds to solo trial in a lead up to our Group races and also local greyhound’s trialling for Group racing interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to solo trial in a lead up to a feature race upon request and they will take one of the eight kennels available for trialling ahead of the policy and sit separately to the 4 dog trials. Feature races are considered to be – Adelaide Cup, Gawler Cup, Oaks, Derby, Howard Ashton, Brian Johnstone, SA Sprint, SA Distance Championship, SA Anniversary Cup, SA Country Cup, National Finals & any Group race Interstate.

·         Local greyhounds will be allowed to trial on a race night, where they are in preparation for a feature event and nominated for a meeting and the race does not stand up. This will include all distances and also take precedence over the policy.

·         If a greyhound qualifies for a feature final and requires a trial in between this will be conducted as a solo trial and sit separately to the 2 four dog trials.

Whilst these changes increase the time between kennelling and the first race by 15 minutes it should provide an opportunity for more trialling opportunities for one and two dog trainers in particular.

It is extremely important that trainers book in to trial at these race meetings. No trials will be accepted outside of these booking times.
