Tonight's Angle Park Preview

Racing News

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

The highlight of tonight’s 11 event programme is race 8 on the card, the John Gray Final and what a race it is.  There are a lot of class performers in this and it will be hard to pick the winner, never mind the trifecta and first 4.  So it’s a terrific betting race as it will be wide open.

Race 1 and we can kick off with a good start, with Barnes Bay.  He has been racing well of late from inside draws and has the pace to lead these from box 3.  Good Odds Punk will be running on late from the rails and is a definite trifecta hope.   Add in Animate out wide for a little value.  Box Up 1.3.4.8

Race 2 and Long Gully Mark has the form on the board with 2 wins on the trot.  He can be hit and miss early but will be flying home late.  Margaret Keeping has pace and appears the likely leader and a win won’t surprise.  Box Up 1.4.5.7

The 3rd and there are several chances here.  The inside 2 both have similar racing styles so that might be the worry.  The pace will be coming from out wide so it could be a handy trifecta.  Box up 1.2.5.8

Race 4 and this is the distance event of the night and a very good one at that.  Zara McLaren has the pace and form to use box 1 to her benefit and will be right in the finish.  Luna Jinx ran 4th at The Meadows on Saturday night and will be running on late.  Psychotic Gold returned to form with a strong win here last start coming from well back.  Box up 1.2.4.8

The 5th is another open affair and Gun McBain is inform and has a good turn of early pace.   Box 7 is a bonus and he is my top pick.  Black Bottle won here Monday and is a big chance again.  Breaker Kahn is a strong performer and is a trifecta chance.  Box Up 2.3.5.7

Get on the Kenny Gill trained Farmeroo in race 6.  He can bounce back from his last start defeat after missing the kick and is drawn for a bold showing.  Excusez Moi will be the big improver along with Aeroplane Bowser who will be motoring home over the top of them despite his poor draw.  Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 7 and I like one in this with a bit of value and that is Black Daddy.  He is better suited over more ground but we will need a lot of luck early as he will be charging home over the top of them.  Kaldene Kapone is in form along with Chemical Maker who is both in the Murray kennel, which I put the mockers on last week!!  Box Up 3.4.5.6

The 8th and this is the John Gray Final and as mentioned before it is a terrific race.  Terry Cahalan has Alderley Reform in good form but the only worry is the wide draw.  Dr. Kiaralee is well drawn and is an improver from box 1.  Cash In Looper sprouted wings over the final stages here last week and is another with a big chance.  Box Up 1.5.6.8

Race 9 and Colin Swain has Miss Party Girl in fine form and she looks well drawn down in box 2.  Freesia Bale is always a chance for punters as she will be working home late.  Box Up 2.4.6.8

The 10th and there is a newcomer in Thor Bale who hasn’t raced since October last year.  He has 7 wins and 12 placing’s from his 47 starts and is worth keeping safe.  Hersi will be a good each way hope along with Hazerati and Antonio Tyson.  Box Up 1.3.5.7.

Race 11 and the two main chances are the 1 and 6.  Both have pace and will be vying for the early lead.  Miss Footluce continues to run a place and is a must for trifecta punters for a bit of value.  Add in Arisia Bale in the Rasmussen kennel as she can pinch a place at odds.  Box Up 1.2.3.6

ROLLER DERBY TO TRAIN ON TUESDAY NIGHTS

Roller Derby will now be training at Angle Park on Tuesday nights & Wednesday nights. On Tuesday nights a section will be available allowing access to vet and upstairs with Roller Derby starting around 7.40pm.

GRADING REVIEW PANEL
Main items from the Grading Review Panel in November which take effect from meetings from 1st January 2015.

Grade 6

The panel was generally comfortable with the Grade 6 format however recommended a slight change to the Angle Park Grade 6’s for Non SA Bred greyhounds. Currently greyhounds can only win two of the three Angle Parks before racing elsewhere. It was proposed that Angle Park Wednesday (Provincial 2) be considered with Gawler and Strathalbyn allowing for a win on a Wednesday over 388m for example to not carry the same impact as a Grade 6 win on Thursday night. This change would also assist those trainers regarding FOL and Catching Pen and provide more options for trainers. There will be no retrospectively in regard to grades.

Veteran’s Races

The GRP considered whether veterans races would benefit from the same approach applied to Juvenile racing where the Grader will consider a race of Veterans age as his first option when grading regardless of nomination (Feature Events excluded). The GRP were specific that this was only for Grade 5 greyhounds and would be treated as Non Penalty events with guarding as required. If trainers did not want to be considered for these races they could put “No Veterans” on their nomination.

With the chance to be running more Veteran's races with the Grade 5 option it would be preferred that any Grade 5 greyhound eligible for veterans advises FFA on their nomination.

Downgrade to Grade 5

The GRP considered when a greyhound has its second unplaced run and goes back to grade 5 company from a grade 4 they should be on the Order to gain an automatic start. Currently these greyhounds are not on the Order. The Grader advised that this would be worthwhile as these greyhounds have raced generally in FFA company and at times their form has tapered off at that level putting them at risk in gaining a run. The GRP recommended that this be added to number 6 on the Order of Preference which will include Grade 5 greyhounds.

ANGLE PARK THURSDAY

Next weeks Angle Park meeting features –

$3,065 Heats Grade 5 Feature– 515m ($4,415 Final 5/2/15)
