TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

What another outstanding night of racing we have tonight with the feature event race 8 on the card which is the Schweppes SA Derby. This race has two locals versus the rest of the country and for mine it appears a local is a big hope in this brilliant event.

Race 1 and we kick off with a more than handy race.  Let’s go with the pacey Yiche out in box 8.  She looks well boxed and should be able to carve across and lead. The Victorian visitors Rock Domination has had over 100 starts and will be a chance from here and CosmicWise was placed in the Healesville Cup last start.  Box Up 4.5.7.8

The 2nd and this is a very open affair.  I am tipping speed again, with Krakow McLaren.  She is in form and is drawn for a bold showing.  Spare Wheel can run a cheeky race along with Long Gully Mark.  Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 3 and this is a 600m event and it is very hard to go past Genghis Kahn.  He is better suited over this trip and his recent sprint form has been more than handy.  Pandora’s Sin continues to show up along with He’s A Villian.  They all have a chance of running into the top 3.  Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 4, this looks a 2 dog race and Big Zap gets the nod in a tough affair.  The BIG danger is the inform Absolute Boss down in box 4.  Add in Lifestyle Lad and Velocity Daff for the First 4.  Box Up 2.3.7.8

The 5th and this is the 1st leg of the quaddie and it is a distance affair.  Psychotic Gold returned to form with a win here last week winning by over 5L.  She will prove very hard to beat again.  Token McLaren fell here last start and can bounce back to his best form and salute.  There are several for the placing’s and they are Infinite Wish and Long Gully Surf.  Box Up 1.2.5.6

How good is race 6.  We tipped Galilee Spirit last week who won well and he can go back to back here.  He has a heap of early pace and can prove too strong.  The big dangers come from Premier Event who is down on the paint along with Dakota Premier.  Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 7 and how good is this race.  It’s a top quality field with several chances.  It is hard to go past Cairnlea Layla who can bounce back and win here from box 7.  She is slick out of the lids and is the measuring stick.  Wild Soul continues to show up along with Kalden Kapone and Sidney’s Shadow.  Box Up 1.6.7.8

This is the Derby Final and the racing just gets better.  Local hope Aston Kane keeps on winning and the Ray Murray kennel has him in outstanding form.  Iva Vision is hit and miss early but has a very big motor and carved out a slick BON 29.68 here last week from box 3.  He will be very hard to beat if he can cross them from the wide draw.  Add in Dyna Alchemist and Wind Whistler.  There is $25,000 on offer to the winner and it certainly is a big First 4 event for all punters.

Race 9, another 600m event and I think Set The Scene is a lot better than his last start 8th.  He can be hit and miss early but the 600m distance should be a big factor in him winning.  Add to the mix Crash Dooley and Animate.  Box Up 3.6.7.8

Race 10 and get out the wallets and load up on Dyna Chaser.  He has a good turn of early pace and is boxed for a bold showing.  Allen Kenny is well drawn and can kick up from box 1 and run a very cheeky race.  Box Up 1.2.6.7

The final event and it looks a very open affair but when it’s like this go with the well drawn Dyna Motley.  Wins are far and few between but this is a very open race.  The big chances are Irish Midge and Velocity Saphire.  Box Up 1.4.7.8

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

2014 SCHWEPPES DERBY TONIGHT

Last week we saw four outstanding heats of the Schweppes Derby where the racing was of the highest level. The fastest qualifier for tonights final was the Peter Young trained Queenslander Iva Vision who was able to gun down Dyna Alchemist in the shadows of the post for a brilliant win. After a slow beginning he railed strongly before moving to the outside turning for home and grabbing the first heat by a neck in a sizzling 29.68 for the 515m journey. He is joined in the final by the Steve Collins trained Dyna Alchemist who also did a terrific job leading most of the way and running a personal time of 29.70. Iva Vision looks to be drawn nicely in the final out in box 8 and is one of the favourites in an outstanding line up while Dyna Alchemist will have to be at his best to offset box 4.

The second heat was taken out in fine style by the Angela Langton trained Wind Whistler who powered away from his rivals over the concluding stages to win by over 2 lengths in a slick 29.82. After a slow beginning he weaved his way through the pack before claiming leader Allen Icarus off the back straight and racing away for a strong win. Allen Icarus held on well to run second giving Steve Collins two runners tonight. Wind Whisler looks nicely placed out of box 1 and should be running home hard at the end tonight.

The third heat continued the golden run of the Langton/Jeff Britton combination when Texas Titan scored a powerful win. Bred and owned in SA by Nathan Wilson he put his opposition away of the back straight to win by over 5 lengths in a flying 29.77. Dyna Ostrander was able to run into second place and qualify for tonight’s final for Victorian trainer Jenny Hunt. Both have drawn towards the outside and will need luck  but have plenty of class on their side

All eyes were on star South Australian chaser Aston Kane for trainer Ray Murray in the final heat to see if a South Aussie could make the final and he didn’t disappoint his local fans. He began brilliantly from the 5 box to grab the lead and from there was in no danger going on to record a solid 4 lengths win in a super 29.78 for the 515m journey. Ray’s son Troy grabbed the quinella when Lannister battled on nicely for second giving SA two representatives in the final. Aston Kane tonight will hope to repeat the feats of last years winner Ernie Bung Arrow who did it for SA in the Derby before going on and winning the Group 1 Adelaide Cup.

The $35,000 Group Three Final is race 8 on tonight’s program and is listed to jump at 9.11pm (SA time). Tattsbet’s Fixed Odds Market is listed below -
