Tonight's Angle Park Preview
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
As I have mentioned in recent weeks the racing is hotting up and so is the Coffex Coffee, it must be served nice and warm as it is a smooth drop. Tonight’s Oaks heats are more than handy with a good sprinkle of interstaters to add to the local performers. We will see a couple of smart sprinters grace the Angle Park circuit.
The opening event looks a ripper with a couple of class acts, I am going with Gorham Bale who is awkwardly drawn in box 5 but has the form on the board in Victoria for Steve Collins. He will need luck early but has the class. Sidney’s Shadow will start the favourite but needs to improve her box manners. Add in Toby The Weapon along with Gemstone Jack.
Box Up 1.2.5.6.
Race 2 and if pace counts it is very hard to go past Yiche despite drawing (5). She is in fine form and looks the likely leader. Dyna Quistis has been racing well over the short and is a big chance in this along with Velocity Daff who has the perfect draw down in box 1 for the Johnstone kennel. Box Up 1.3.4.5
The 3rd and this is the distance event of the night and a strong one at that. It appears to be a 2 dog event and I will go with our national representative in Token McLaren. He has been in good form. Psychotic Gold is the big danger. Add in Victa Victoria and Defib Daryl for the First 4 in a very good race.
Race 4 and again I like 2 runners as the main chances. They are Premier Event who loves box 8 and he will be right in the finish again. We can’t overlook Hellyeah Bolt from the Apple Isle and is a very smart performer. Box Up 3.6.7.8.
The 1st of the Oaks heats and that is race 5 and the Jeffrey Britton performer Mepunga Hayley is in outstanding form. She loves this draw and trialled here in 29.85 here last week. She looks very hard to beat and is very strong. Frattini has had a look at the track and went 29.80. She is another who can improve but she can be hit and miss on box rise. Box Up 1.2.3.6 in a terrific betting race.
Race 6 and the Jeff Britton youngster in Oakvale Flyer had a look at the track here last week and carved out a sub 30 run and showed a bit of pace early. She has good credentials and will give this a shake. We can’t leave out Miss Pocano and Lamia Bale for the placing’s. Box Up the inside 4 (1.2.3.4)
Race 7 and a very open heat. We will stick with the Britton kennel who has Oakvale Destiny. She charged home in a very good race here last week and was only beaten 2.50L behind Kalden Gambino in 30.00. She is the BIG improver and will be very hard to beat for mine. Box Up 2.4.6.8
This is the final heat of the Coffex Coffee Oaks heats and the inside 2 look the chances and they are Samus Allen and Ima Fairytale. They have been in great form of late with wins on city tracks in Victoria and are well boxed here tonight. We can never leave out a Darren McDonald runner in Eliza Blanche. She trialled here in 30.10 and was very slow early but will be the big improver. Box up 1.2.3.6
Race 9 and this is only a 5 dog event and the pace will come from out wide in Cool Guinness. He should lead and win this event. Spot Goes Racing and will be running on for the Jovanovic kennel and Little Dakota. Box Up 1.4.6.8
Race 10 and this is a tough race and winning form is good form. He’s A Villian has won his past 2 here over the 600m and will be at good eachway odds in this and is a big chance of winning again. Time For War for Mike Giniotis down in box 2 for the trifecta and throw in the reserve Stop Scrammin’ for the minor money. Box Up 2.4.5.10
The final event and this is a tough one with a heap of chances. The old fellow in Senni Tony has worked back into form and is a big chance despite the poor draw. We can’t overlook Lifestyle Lad who is very strong but can be hit and miss on box rise along with Sundance Rock from Victoria. Box Up 4.5.6.7. Add in Gilbert Allen as a roughie.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS
COFFEX COFFEE OAKS HEATS
Spring racing really heats up tonight with four heats of the Coffex Coffee Oaks with some of the best young female chasers in the country competing to make it through to the Group 3 final next week.
Last year the series was dominated by the interstate raiders with 19 of the 34 greyhounds competing. This year the interstate raiders have again got the ascendency with 20 of the 32 including Group 1 winners Mepunga Hayley & Oakvale Destiny along with Group 1 placegetter Oakvale Flyer for trainer Jeff Britton. Prominent trainers from across the border in Steve Collins, Darren McDonald & Robert Britton along with Justin King, Christine Oldfield and Dustin Drew just to name a few make a strong interstate contingent. SA will be hoping that the likes of Mobius, Emerley Senorita, Boojerooma or Spicy Peppa can give SA another recent win after Hope’s Up for Cameron Butcher won the Oaks in 2012.
The first two from each heat will qualify for next weeks final with the two fastest third placegetters declared reserves. We will conduct the box draw on track tonight after the running of race nine.
Next Thursday night’s Coffex Coffee Oaks Final carries a total purse of $35,000, with the winner to receive $25,000 in the Group Three event.
SCHWEPPES DERBY TRIALS TONIGHT
Tonight we get another opportunity to see Hostile for trainer Darren Beasley trial for next weeks Schweppes Derby heats. He trialed here two weeks ago and was brilliant in running a slick 29.60 for the 515m. Last week he dominated a mixed 4/5 field at Sandown running a sizzling 29.56 in winning by 1 ½ lengths and another look at the Angle Park track suggests he will be one of the favourites for the series.
Also trialing tonight will be the Anthony Bullock trained Mason Pines from Tasmania. He has an impressive record of 33 starts for 5 wins and 15 placings on the Apple Isle and has been very competitive against Open company.
SCHWEPPES DERBY – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY
The Group 3 Schweppes Derby is only one week away and we have had a taste recently with Interstaters Hostile and Iva Vision both trialling in brilliant fashion. It is shaping up as one of the best series we have seen in recent times.

SPUD REGIS AT STUD ADVERTISING
Greyhound Racing SA has entered into a sponsorship agreement with Brian Treloar in regards to his outstanding chaser Spud Regis who is now standing at stud. Spud Regis is no stranger to SA greyhound fans having won the 2012 Group 3 Derby followed by one of the most emotional wins in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup that year where the “Spud” cheated death in a car accident to go on and win the final. He won over $460,000 in prizemoney winning 18 races from 43 starts.
The advertising sign is situated in front of the Angle Park semaphore board and Spud Regis will have one race name every Monday night at Angle Park.

2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION ENTRIES
After the nominations closed over the weekend for the 2014 Adelaide Greyhound Auction there were 68 entries for the Auction on Sunday 12th October. This is a terrific result for the first Auction in 8 years. One of these greyhounds (Nitro Burst x Hope’s Up) will be auctioned on Adelaide Cup night (Friday 10th October) to assist in the promotion of the event. The catalogue will hopefully be out in the next two weeks giving atleast three weeks until the day. There will be a requirement for bidders to register before the Auction on Friday night and also on Sunday to assist with the administrative side of the day.
In an added bonus Ray Borda from Macro Meats has graciously decided to sponsor and support the event by putting in 11 greyhounds of his own but also providing 20 x $250 coupons to drawn on the Sunday for bidders to use on the purchase price (buy backs are excluded from this promotion).
Special conditions and information below –
· For pups whelped between 1st November 2013 to 31st May 2014
· $50 Non refundable entry fee
· 11% commission
· Minimum price of $800 (No Reserve)
· The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old. One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction. There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series. This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.
· The Main race series stakes ($10,000,$3,000, $1,500, unpl $250). Breeder/Nominator bonuses for main race ($2,000, $1,500, $1,000).
· Greyhounds purchased through the auction that are not SA Bred will be allowed the same grading exemptions in regards to Grade 6 and Juvenile races as locally bred greyhounds. The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refer to a grading advantage and have no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.
· Breeders that nominate three or more pups for the Auction will be entitled to a third Breeders Rebate application.
GST 50% SPLIT AT 1ST SEPTEMBER 2014
GRSA has successfully obtained an ATO ruling to allow the splitting of applicable GST to owners and trainers who are registered for GST in line with the common industry practice of prizemoney entitlement (i.e. 50% trainer and 50% owner).
Given the majority of trainers and owners are not registered for GST, the ruling will not impact many participants.
The most likely impact however is when a hobby owner i.e. not registered for GST (being the majority) deals with a trainer registered for GST. The GST registered trainer will receive GST on 50% of their prizemoney entitlement. This means the GST registered trainer should not need to charge GST for the owners 50% share of prizemoney (whilst noting we understand some GST registered trainers currently absorb the GST anyway).
If owners are dealing with a GST registered trainer it is worthwhile clarifying this situation, whilst noting GRSA does not intervene in tax or payment matters and suggests you obtain your own advice on same.
Note: Payment of stakemoney will continue as currently agreed (ie in many cases this is paid to the trainer as agent for the owner) unless GRSA or the Club decides otherwise.
