TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

We have a terrific night of racing ahead of us tonight with a good sprinkle of 515 & 600m racing along with a 731m event.  We see the performers who were beaten last week in the finals of the Nationals and they look like they can bounce back and salute on the 11 event card.  Good luck and happy punting.

Race 1 and it is a toughie to kick off with, there is a bit of early pace in the race and that will be coming from the 1-2 and 4 runners.  I am going with Absolute Boss down in the red who has been knocking on the door.  Add in the well performed Yiche and Victa Brooke.  Box Up 1.3.4.7.

The 2nd and there are two runners who have a good turn of early pace and they are Alderley Reform and Spicy Peppa.  Both are in good form and will take beating.  I like Hashtag Harry to run a cheeky race as he will be rattling home late.  Box Up 2.4.5.6 in a good betting race.

Race 3 and who leads wins for mine and HOPEFULLY it’s Footluce Diva.  She is very hit and miss but can do it from both ends and gets the nod in a tough affair.  The big danger is the Colin Simes trained, Little Dakota, she has a heap of ability.  Grande To Excel will be right in the finish from his wide draw of 7.  Box Up 3.5.6.7.

This is a 600m event and we should see the return to form of Genghis Kahn.  He has been battling of late over the staying trip but has a fantastic record of 4 from 5 over this trip and should win.  Victa Scott and Pandora’s Sin both will run a cheeky race and can fill the minors.  Let’s go with 2 from 1.5.8.

Race 5 and I will follow my money with As It Goes.  She led early last week and was run down in the final stages, but she can hold on and score in this.  Corrine Corrina is in form and will be flying home along with Wiregrass.  I have a roughie for the eachway punters and that is Doona Bale.  Box Up 1.3.4.7.

The 6th and this one will start very short and that is Valladares out in box 7.  He has won 5 of 7 here and is very quick early and has been well placed by Lauren Harris.  The placing’s look to be amongst Kalden Kostello and Big Mick Dee so let’s go with 7 from 2.3.4.

Race 7 and it looks like the book ends for mine and they are the 1 and the 8 runners.  I’m going with Kalden Balerion for the Murray kennel in the red.  He can be the big improver and kick up early and win.  Charmed Assassin sent a lot of punters home with a smile on their face here last week when he was backed off the map and proved far too strong and won in 29.97.  Add in Nebula and they look the top 3.  Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 8 and we see a couple of runners who were engaged in the Sprint final return here and Sidney’s Shadow can bounce back from a defeat despite the poor draw.  Kalden Gambino found a heap of trouble in the final last start and will be a very big improver.  Set The Scene has the perfect draw down in box 1 and a win wouldn’t surprise.  Box Up 1.3.4.5

The ninth and Psychotic Gold started the punters elect here last week in the state final and had to be content with running 2nd.  She will bounce back and win by a big margin tonight but will start a very short priced favourite.  Kennel mate Defib Daryl can run into the placing’s along with Victa Victoria, so let’s go with 1 from 4.7.8.

Race 10 and it is very hard to go past Honky Tonk Doll.  She has won her past 2 here in good fashion and should lead throughout and score again.  The dangers are Kalden Playboy who will be a big improver down in box 2 and could be a smokey.  Add in Bugsy Taylor who is very hit and miss but can run.  Box Up 2.3.7.8.

The final event and we should be well in front in the wallet but there are several chances who all can be hit and miss on box rise.  I will tip Kasai Warrior out in the pink.  He has been knocking on the door with two 2nds here in recent runs and can crack it tonight.  Dyna Wista has a perfect draw in box 1.  Add in the 3 and the 6 for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.3.6.8.

Best Bets:

Race 4 box 2 Genghis Kahn

Race 5 box 7 As It Goes

Race 9 box 1 Psychotic Gold

Race 10 box 8 Honky Tonk Doll

THE ADVERTISER – THURSDAY FORM GUIDE

Further to negotiations with The Advertiser, participants will see a trial of some significant changes to the presentation of the Thursday form guide in The Advertiser starting today.  The initiative is part of a broader plan to drive local wagering interest in wagering on the greyhound product, particularly during our feature race series in the weeks immediately ahead.

GAP 17th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION PARADES

Tonight at Angle Park the Greyhound Adoption Program will be celebrating their 17th Birthday.

There will only be one GAP parade during the night where owners will proudly parade their much loved family pets oncourse where most competed at the highest level. This parade will be after race 4 which starts at 7.44pm.

2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION – NOMINATIONS CLOSING THIS MONTH

Breeders are reminded that the Greyhound Auction nominations close at the end of this month (29th August 2014). The Auction will be held on Sunday 12th October beginning at 12.00 noon at Greyhound Racing SA.

Special conditions and information below –

·         For pups whelped between 1st November 2013 to 31st May 2014

·         $50 Non refundable entry fee

·         11% commission

·         Minimum price of $800 (No Reserve)

·         The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old.  One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction.  There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series.  This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.

·         The Main race series stakes ($10,000,$3,000, $1,500, unpl $250). Breeder/Nominator bonuses for main race ($2,000, $1,500, $1,000).

·         Greyhounds purchased through the auction that are not SA Bred will be allowed the same grading exemptions in regards to Grade 6 and Juvenile races as locally bred greyhounds.  The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refer to a grading advantage and have no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.

·         Breeders that nominate three or more pups for the Auction will be entitled to a third Breeders Rebate application.

GAWLER SHOW DATES

August means that it is coming up to Gawler Show time, so a couple of weeks of racing at Gawler will be transferred to Angle Park this year.

This year the Annual Gawler Show will be held on the weekend of Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August. Racing on Tuesday 26th August and Tuesday 2nd September will be at Angle Park. These will be Angle Park Provincial (APD) fixtures with normal Tuesday prizemoney. Racing on Friday 29th August will be at Mount Gambier.

Trials will be cancelled at Gawler on Wednesday 27th August, Thursday 28th August & Monday 1st September. We will hopefully have the track ready to trial again on Wednesday 3rd September, but this will be dependent on the weather over the show weekend. There will be no Qualifying Trials at Gawler on Wednesday 20th August, as the following Tuesday is at Angle Park. There will be trials as per normal at Angle Park on Tuesday 26th August and Saturday 30th August.

GAWLER CUP TO BE MOVED TO FEBRUARY

With the continuing development of the Gawler venue GRSA has been advised that towards the end on the project when things like the Judge’s Tower will need to be moved there will be a block of around 6 weeks when we will not be able to race or trial at the Gawler track. This is likely to be around late October to early December with this being the case the Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup series will not be able to be run at that time. To give the facility time to be up and ready for our biggest provincial race and also to fit in with the national group racing calendar the Gawler Cup has been shifted to February with the heats on Tuesday Twilight 10th February and the Group 3 Final on Sunday evening 15th February.

With the shift of the Gawler Cup to February we have decided to move the SA Sprint Championship at Angle Park into the late October timeslot to support the local trainers who normally progress on and race at Gawler after the Adelaide Cup Series. The SA Sprint is for SA domiciled greyhounds (76 days out of the last 150 prior to nomination time) and will be conducted at headquarters on Thursday 23rd October for the heats and the $22,000 final on Thursday 30th October.

There have been some other slight changes to the calendar to accommodate these changes –

Classic 2014 Prelude (2) will be run on Wednesday 29th October and Monday 3rd November

Gawler Queens Cup will be on Tuesday 6th January and Tuesday 13th January.

The updated feature race calendars for both Angle Park and Gawler have are available on the website and from GRSA.

Our Main open class feature race series now looks like this –

·         Thursday 2nd October - Heats Macro Meats Adelaide Cup

·         Friday 10th October - $107,500 Final Macro Meats Adelaide Cup

·         Thursday 23rd October – Heats SA Sprint Championship

·         Thursday 30th October - $22,000 Final SA Sprint Championship

·         Sunday 9th November – Heats Strathalbyn Cup

·         Sunday 16th November - $10,000 Final Strathalbyn Cup

·         Tuesday 10th February – Heats Gawler Gold Cup

·         Sunday 15th February - $37,500 Final Gawler Gold Cup

·         Sunday 1st March – Heats Mount Gambier Cup

·         Sunday 8th March - $10,000 Final Mount Gambier Cup

·         Thursday 5th March – Heats West End Draught Anniversary Cup

·         Thursday 12th March - $14,500 Final West End Draught Anniversary Cup

FOL FOR ADELAIDE CUP

The Catching Pen is progressing nicely and almost completed with trialling to commence towards the end of this month.  It is anticipated that trailing will be conducted for approximately 4 – 6 weeks prior to the introduction to race meetings. With this being the case the Group 3 Oaks & Derby and Group 1 Adelaide Cup will be run with the Finish On Lure. Introduction is hoped to take place from Monday 13th October depending on the success of the trialling period.
