Tonight's Angle Park Preview
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
How good is tonight’s racing!!! As always we have an 11 event programme but we have 2 heats of the National Distance Championship and 3 over the sprint. It is sure to make it an interesting night for all of us. Let’s have a big night on the punt and line our pockets with a little cash.
Race 1, this is a good race to kick off with. It looks very open with a number of chances. There is a lot of pace and I will go with the 8 runner in Stews Mistake. He can carve across from the pink and take holding out. Wingard will push up early along with Aston Odin.
Box Up 1.2.7.8
The 2nd and this is the 1st of the distance features and put our money on Token McLaren. He will be right on the pace and will take a power of beating. Genghis Kahn is the one to watch as he will be running on late. Box Up 2.4.5.8
This is the 2nd of the Distance heats and it is very hard to go past the Petar Jovanovic trained Psychotic Gold. She has been in outstanding form of late and should lead and win. Long Gully Surf will be running on along with Victa Victoria. Box Up 1.3.4.7
Race 4 and we will look for a bit of pace and that is Bogie Classic. She can be hit and miss but is a big chance from the rails draw. There is a heap of chances for the placing’s. Box up 2.3.7.8 in a very open affair.
The 5th event is the 1st heat of the National Sprint and we all know Port Adelaide has been battling of late but Cairnlea Layla who is owned by a number of the players along with their coach has been in outstanding form. She has 5 wins on the trot and she should win again with her early pace. Add in Regal Looper and Kalden Balerion for the placing’s. Box Up 2.3.4.8
Race 6 and this is a very interesting race as we have sprinters and 600m performers. I am still going with Wild Soul who has strung together 4 wins on the trot here, both over the sprint and the middle distance. He has pace and will be very hard to beat. Box Up 1.4.5.8 in a terrific race.
This is the last of the National Sprint heats and has a number of chances. Sidney’s Shadow overcame a moderate start then powered to the front and went on to score here in 29.91 from box 8. She can lead the inside brigade and win for mine. Big Zap is the likely improver along with Spring Amanda. Box Up 1.3.4.7
The 8th and with Cairnlea Ellie scratched the race has been opened up. Box Up 1.4.6. for the trifecta and we shouldn’t miss however it wouldn’t surprise me if an outsider got up here
Race 9 and the 600m looks a very tough race on paper. I will go with Wiregrass from box 4. She has been struggling of late but is the likely improver for mine. Victa Scott and Animate who has been racing well. Box Up 4.5.6.8
Race 10 and he looks a special of the night and that is Cool Guinness from box 1. He has won his last 4 on the trot here all in quick times. He has the pace to lead and will win again at skinny odds so he is the stand out. Box up 1 from 4.5.6
The last and this looks a race for Madison McLaren with the scratching of Grande To Excell. Should be able to lead and win. Box Up 2.3.4.8 in another good betting race.
Best bets, a couple of obvious ones.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS
2014 NATIONAL SPRINT AND DISTANCE SA HEATS
Tonight will see the running of the SA State Heats of the National Sprint Championship and the National Distance Championship. We have three Sprint heats and two Distance heats on tonight’s program. Twenty greyhounds remained at box draw time for the Sprint and thirteen for the Distance.
In the Sprint heats there looks to be plenty of depth and with only the first two from each heat and the two fastest thirds qualifying for the final the racing will be tight and competitive.
In the first heat (Race 5 – 8.08pm SA time) the impressive Cairnlea Layla will be looking for her sixth win in a row. She has taken all before her recently and lays claims as being the best sprinter in the State. Her main challengers look to be the Troy Murray trained Kalden Balerion along with Gawler Produce winner Regal Looper.
The second heat (Race 6 – 8.28pm SA time) looks an absolute cracker on paper. Galilee Spirit loves the pole, Wild Soul shooting for 5 in a row, Set The Scene brilliant at his best but likes it wide and Kalden Gambino who loves it from the pink box look the main chances All are brilliant at their best and a touch of luck in running will probably determine who wins or not.
The third heat (Race 7 – 8.52pm) has one of the series favourites drawn a little awkward in box 4 with plenty of depth around her. Sidney’s Shadow has terrific form to her name but will need to work hard to qualify. All greyhounds lay claim to a spot next week so luck in running to the first turn is crucial. The likes of Spring Amanda, Punishment and Encosta Kahn should all be in the firing line.
The Distance heats are races 2 (7.05pm SA time) and 3 (7.25pm SA time) on tonights program and should also provide some exciting chasing. The first four from each heat will go into next weeks final.
Token McLaren for Don Foster will start favourite in the first heat and with his explosive finish he looks the one to beat however Genghis Kahn for Kathy Johnstone has stepped back up to the 731m and looks a real prospect. He has been brilliant over the 515m and 600m recently running home powerfully and if he can stay the trip could run some time. Defib Daryl after a solid win last start looks the trifecta.
In the second heat Psychotic Gold for Petar Jovanovic also looks very hard to beat. She has won 5 races over the staying trip and looks the testing material. There are plenty of chances for the minors with Long Gully Surf, Zara McLaren, Victa Victoria and Kaylarikki who has a very quick time to her name and could be the surprise packet.
Next week’s SA State Finals will carry prizemoney of $6,875 for the Sprint and $7,450 for the Distance due to GRSA’s commitment to paying unplaced money in staying events. The winners share will be $5,000 for each race, plus there is a travel support payment. The box draws for the finals will take place on track tonight. The Sprint final after race eight and the Distance final after race four.
The National finals will both be run at the Cannington in Western Australia on Saturday 23rd August. Each of the Group 1 finals has a winner’s cheque of $75,000.

EMPTYING OUT AREA AT ANGLE PARK
With Council work beginning next to the Trainer Car Park at Angle Park the emptying out area used on Trial Days/Nights is now unavailable to trainers. The normal emptying out area over the ramp will now have to be used so I suggest if you need to use these facilities that you arrive at Angle Park 5-10 minutes early.

The GOTBA Coursing meeting on Sunday 24th August has been moved to Sunday 31st August. This meeting will now feature the Waterloo Cup, Oaks and Derby and has moved to race with Strathalbyn on this day.

UPDATED TRIALLING WITH NO EMERLEY PARK
Emerley Park recently advised that some of the facilities at their property would be closed as of 1 July 2014. This would mean that some trainers would become affected by the decision as the Circle Track will no longer be available to be used. The Straight Track will continue to be opened for free galloping and the Bull ring will still be available.
Main users were contacted and they were of the opinion that an additional time slot is required for the sole purpose of allowing trainers to break pups in and to continue education up until they start to compete in Qualifying trials or races.
As the new racing calendar has Gawler racing every Sunday there would be little watering required on a Monday morning to have the surface prepared for trialing. Therefore as of 14 July 2014 trials will be available every Monday at Gawler for trainers at Gawler for the sole purposes of breaking in or education.
These trials will commence at 8.00am and conclude no later than 9.30am.
The number of trials for these days will be monitored and an ongoing assessment will occur with any changes required implemented.
A $7.00 fee for trialing will apply.
STRATHALBYN NEWS
The Strathalbyn Committee has advised the following racing and trialling for the next few months:
Trials on Friday August 1st
Twilight Races Sunday 3rd August (new)
Trials on Wednesday August 6th
Day Races Friday August 8th
2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION
After receiving feedback from the Industry and panel groups including the Breeders Task Force and Industry Trainers Panel regarding the Greyhound Auction in October, GRSA discussed this feedback with the AGRC. GRSA was very appreciative of the Industry and AGRC regarding the Auction and how the conditions may be altered to assist Breeders and buyers.
There have been some changes listed below which will be incorporated into the conditions -
1) Auction Commission
It was agreed to reduce the commission from 15% to 11% of the sale price.
The 11% is GST inclusive.
The revised decision was based on feedback provided by Industry Participants and after further consultation with AGRC Management Committee.
2) Reserve Prices
It was agreed that there will not be any reserves.
Although this option was considered, it was the belief that we wanted to avoid lots being passed in and that a pseudo reserve can be achieved by the Seller by asking someone to bid on their behalf. By reducing the commission it reduces the cost to the Seller to protect the price if they have to buy the pup back because the bidding price was too low. If the Seller does not have someone available to bid on their behalf a member of the AGRC Committee can provide this service.
3) Extra Races for Pups sold at the Auction
It was agreed that GRSA will schedule two extra heats and final races for pups sold at the auction. These races can be accommodated within the normal GRSA racing budget.
The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old. One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction. There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series. This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.
Baring in mind that the Auction details have been released for sometime there was only scope to make minor changes to assist all involved. Ultimately only time will tell based on the support that is received from the Industry.
- The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refers to a grading advantage and has no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.
