TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Things are starting to hot up and that isn’t the weather we have a terrific night of racing here at Angle Park tonight.  Race 8 is an absolute ripper over the sprint followed by a more than handy 700m event.

Race 1 and we can kick off with an early winner with Galilee Spirit.  He has won his last 3 starts here and at Gawler all in quick times.  He has the pace to lead and win from box 7.  Regal Looper will be powering home late from box 1 and a must for trifecta punters along with Wingard.  Box Up 1.2.6.7

The 2nd and this is an open affair with several chances.  I am going with Gun McBain from a poor draw of 5.  But the pacey sprinter can hopefully lead again and win.  Add in Footluce Diva and Hashtag Harry at good eachway odds for value.  Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 3 and the Victorian visitor in Coulta Rock is well drawn and has the form on the board with a slick win 4 starts back at Sandown from box 3.  David Curtain is a former resident here and knows what it takes to produce a winner.  Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 4 and the inside 3 look the main chances.  We start with Nebula down in box 1, he can be hit and miss at the start but has been in terrific form with 3 wins from 3 starts of late.  He should be too strong.  Bogie Classic has pace and will be in the mix along with Bick Mick Dee.  Box Up 1.2.3.5

The 5th and it is very hard to go past Wild Soul.  He has been in outstanding form of late with wins here over the 515 and 600m.  He is drawn for a bold showing again.  Manila Express is a big chance from box 7 along with Spring Amanda.  Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 6 and jump on Fancy Rick down in box 1.  He has the pace to lead here throughout from the rails draw.  The main dangers look to be Sporting Tears and Stop Scammin’.  He will be storming home late from the poor draw.  Box Up 1.2.3.5

The 7th and a very tough race with a heap of chances.  I am going with the 2 runner as she can ping and win.  They will all be coming from behind and it will be a race to throw a heap in for the trifecta.  Box Up 2.4.7.8 but the 4 runner is a sneaky chance at odds.

This is a class race and it is very hard to go past Cairnlea Layla.  She has been in outstanding form with 4 wins on the trot here and at Gawler, all in quick times.  She has pace and speed and should win.

There are a heap of chances to run the placing’s so you can’t leave the ultra-consistent Encosta Kahn and Genghis Kahn, who will be powering home late.  Box Up 1.6.7.8 and don’t forget the 2 dog tough, tough race.

Race 9 and this is the distance race of the night.  Token McLaren returned to form with a good win here last start from box 1 after a long spell.  He should only improve and win again.  The main danger is Psychotic Gold who is the most improved runner in the race along with Zara McLaren who is boxed to run a cheeky race.  Box Up 1.2.4.8

The 10th and the Jovanovic kennel has a handy one in Spot Goes Racing.  He has been in outstanding form with 2 wins and 3 placing’s in his last 5 runs.  He is boxed to kick up and win from box 1.  Idle Ways has pace and is another Victorian visitor who will be around the mark along with another newcomer in Rexroth.  He is in the Murray kennel and has crossed the border from Victoria.  Keep this one very safe as the kennel has a good win ratio 1st up.  Box Up 1.2.4.7

The final event and it is always a good night to go home on a winner.  Let’s load up on Valladares in box 1.  He won here last start in 30.14 from box 4 and is boxed for a bold showing.  Lektra Ripper will be running on late along with Grande To Excel.  Box Up 1.2.3. add the 8 as value.

GAWLER TRACK TURNOVER NOW NEXT WEEK

The Gawler track was due to have a turnover today however due to the inclement weather experienced this was not done. The turnover should occur next week weather permitting. I will keep you posted when this is scheduled for.

GAWLER MOVED TO STRATHALBYN ON SUNDAY 3RD AUGUST

Please be advised that due to the Scouts Rally SA at the Gawler venue of the weekend 2nd & 3rd August 2014 the Gawler Twilight meeting on Sunday 3rd August has been moved.  The venue will be taken up by Rally Cars so there is no possible hope of racing at Gawler.

The Sunday meeting will now to be conducted by Strathalbyn.

Details are listed below:

Delete: Gawler – Sunday 3rd August 2014 (TAB) Twilight

Add: Strathalbyn – Sunday 3rd August 2014 (TAB) Twilight

QUEENSLAND TO “GO LIVE” ON OZCHASE 26TH & 27TH JULY

The final State to come onto the Ozchase Racing system will be Queensland who are due to “Go Live” over the weekend of 26th & 27th July. This will mean that all states except GRVIC (Fastrack) will now use the Ozchase system which will mean quicker and better developments for the system to benefit all states.

This will mean however that over this weekend the Ozchase system will be down until Sunday afternoon or even Monday morning. This will affect Online nominations in particular and the updating of race results at the race meetings. Simular issues were encountered when Western Australia and NSW went “Live” earlier where GRSA moved nomination times to assist trainers and we will do the same over this weekend. Race meetings affected are –

·         Angle Park Thursday 31st July – Nominations will close at 9.00am on Friday 25th July rather than the normal Monday. Fields will be released on Friday.

·         Mount Gambier Friday 1st August – Nominations will close at 9.00am on Tuesday 29th July rather than the normal Monday. Fields will be released on Tuesday.

This should mean that no one should be affected by the changes to the Ozchase system with Queensland coming on board and no race meetings should be affected because trainers could not nominate.

UPDATED TRIALLING WITH NO EMERLEY PARK

Emerley Park recently advised that some of the facilities at their property would be closed as of 1 July 2014. This would mean that some trainers would become affected by the decision as the Circle Track will no longer be available to be used. The Straight Track will continue to be opened for free galloping and the Bull ring will still be available.

Main users were contacted and they were of the opinion that an additional time slot is required for the sole purpose of allowing trainers to break pups in and to continue education up until they start to compete in Qualifying trials or races.

As the new racing calendar has Gawler racing every Sunday there would be little watering required on a Monday morning to have the surface prepared for trialing. Therefore as of 14 July 2014 trials will be available every Monday at Gawler for trainers at Gawler for the sole purposes of breaking in or education.

These trials will commence at 8.00am and conclude no later than 9.30am.

The number of trials for these days will be monitored and an ongoing assessment will occur with any changes required implemented.

A $7.00 fee for trialing will apply.

2014 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The AGRA National Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at Cannington in Western Australia to be conducted on Saturday 23rd August. Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.

The State series for SA will be held at Angle Park for the Sprint and Distance on Thursday 31st July for the Heats with the State Finals on the 7th August.

The most important date for local trainers to remember is the national closing date for entries. Acceptances for the National Championships will close with GRSA on Thursday 24th July at 12 noon. Nominations must be on the prescribed form and the conditions of nomination must also be signed. The forms are available at GRSA and on the GRSA website.

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the National Acceptance Closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

GRSA TRIAL OFFICE TO CLOSE FROM JULY 1ST
The GRSA trial office which is open every Tuesday night will close from 1st July 2014. With Chasers Restaurant also being open on this night and very little patronage upstairs it was decided to maximise our staffing and close one of these areas. GRSA considered closing the Restaurant however after consultation with the AGRC and participants it was agreed that the option for participants to have a place to view the trials in hot or cold weather out weighted the lack of patronage. From the 1st July the trial office will be closed and all trials will need to be paid upstairs in the Restaurant by the staff there. Please be mindful that the staff in the Restaurant will only take the trial money, any racing documentation can be handed to the staff to be updated the next day.

Food and beverages can be purchased as per normal

On trial night GRSA receives on average of two phone calls per night so anyone who calls after the normal close of administration will get a recorded message. Race fields will be placed upstairs for viewing by oncourse patrons.

2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION

After receiving feedback from the Industry and panel groups including the Breeders Task Force and Industry Trainers Panel regarding the Greyhound Auction in October, GRSA discussed this feedback with the AGRC. GRSA was very appreciative of the Industry and AGRC regarding the Auction and how the conditions may be altered to assist Breeders and buyers.

There have been some changes listed below which will be incorporated into the conditions -

1)    Auction Commission

It was agreed to reduce the commission from 15% to 11% of the sale price.

The 11% is GST inclusive.

The revised decision was based on feedback provided by Industry Participants and after further consultation with AGRC Management Committee.

2)    Reserve Prices

It was agreed that there will not be any reserves.

Although this option was considered, it was the belief that we wanted to avoid lots being passed in and that a pseudo reserve can be achieved by the Seller by asking someone to bid on their behalf. By reducing the commission it reduces the cost to the Seller to protect the price if they have to buy the pup back because the bidding price was too low. If the Seller does not have someone available to bid on their behalf a member of the AGRC Committee can provide this service.

3)    Extra Races for Pups sold at the Auction

It was agreed that GRSA will schedule two extra heats and final races for pups sold at the auction.  These races can be accommodated within the normal GRSA racing budget.

The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old.  One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction.  There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series.  This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.

Baring in mind that the Auction details have been released for sometime there was only scope to make minor changes to assist all involved. Ultimately only time will tell based on the support that is received from the Industry.

  • The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refers to a grading advantage and has no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.
