TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Well if this weather keeps up we will need to pick a couple of mud runners that will be powering home late in the final stages or a quick beginner who doesn’t like the rain and wants to get home to their cozy warm bed!!

Race 1 and a very strong type is Stop Scrammin’ for the Jovanovic kennel.  He is normally very slow early but will be doing his best work over the last 100m and is a big chance of kicking us off on a winning note.  The Tracie Price kennel is a possibility of having a big night in the city, they have a chance with Who’s Doing What from box 7.  Add in Illium Bale for the trifecta.  Box Up 2.3.7.8

The 2nd and there is a lot of pace in this race.  They are the 1, 5 and 7.  They all have a big show in a very open affair.  Add in the 8 at big odds and they can pinch the trifecta.  Box Up 1.3.5.8 in a very good betting race.

Race 3 as I mentioned early, it is a night for strong performers and we won’t get one any stronger than Genghis Kahn.  He is a powerhouse, but is back to the sprint again, for me he should still prove too strong.  The main dangers are Stuzzichino and the pacey Victorian Eye Smith.  Box Up 4.5.6.7

Race 4 is a Distance event and by all reports Token McLaren has been trialling very well.  He is resuming tonight after a 4 month break and he should lead and win.  Psychotic Gold has won her last 3 on the trot and is a big danger.  Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 5 and this is another terrific betting race.  I have tipped George Again down in box 1.  He continues to be hit and miss but looks an improver down in grade.  As It Goes is a favourite of mine but has been proving costly with punters.  Box Up 1.3.4.5

The 6th and the pacey Princess Tee gets her chance from box 1.  She is another who has dropped back in grade and will be very hard to beat.  Flying Bale has been racing well along with Lolly Bale.  Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 7 and Cairnlea Layla looks one of the better bets of the night as she has won her past three at Gawler all in quick times.  Kalden Gambino is a danger along with the ever reliable Encosta Kahn.  Box Up 1.3.5.8

The 8th and this is a 600m affair and I am going with the inside 3.  I will go with Farmeroo who will be setting the pace.  Pandora’s Sin will be running on late along with Spring Amanda and Wiregrass.  Box Up 1.2.3.5 in a very good betting race.

Race 9 and the Wally Harkins performer Who De Punk made good late ground here last week over this trip and continues to miss the kick.  When on song he will take a power of beating and gets the nod for mine.  Broneee is racing well and will be right in the mix.  Box Up 1.2.3.7

The 10th and this is a very open race.  There is at least 4 winning chances and I will put the hard earned on Bugsy Taylor for the Mike Giniotis kennel.  He has pace and is a chance of pinching this.  Shimmering Hood is knocking on the door again along with Velocity Daff.  Box Up 1.3.4.5

The final event and lets go with Big Dingo and he has a good turn of early pace and was a last start winner here in a BON 29.86 from this draw.  Grande To Excel is always around the mark and has pace along with Zelemar Steel.  Box Up 1.3.4.8

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

KENNEL CAPERS RELEASED NEXT WEDNESDAY

CHAMPION PUPPY SERIES

The Champion Puppy three week series was to have kicked off yesterday at Angle Park however GRSA only received 7 nominations for the heats last Friday. With the conditions being heats, semi finals and then final it was decided that 7 runners were insufficient to run the heats. The series will now just be a heat and final series due to a tight schedule of racing in the next few months with the heats now being run where the semi finals would have been on Thursday night 17th July. The heats will be worth $4,415 and is for those greyhounds whelped on or after 1st July 2012. The $6,875 final will still be run on Thursday 24th July. Those greyhounds that nominated previously will get preference into the heats however it would be GRSA’s intention to give as many greyhounds as possible a start.

Nominations for the heats close at 9.00am on Monday 14th July with GRSA.

GAWLER TRACK TURNOVER

The Gawler track was due to be turnover today however due to the inclement weather experienced over the last two days this was not done. It is hoped that with a brighter day today and tomorrow staff can complete the turnover tomorrow. GRSA will advise if there is any change to this.

TRAINERS FEE FROM 1ST JULY

The Trainers Fee has started this month with $30 being paid per trainer and $5 per greyhound at all TAB and Non TAB meetings. For weekday meetings this money is being paid out at the track at Angle Park and Gawler. Please make sure that Trainers collect this money oncourse at each meeting. For weekend meetings (includes Mt Gambier Fridays) this money is being paid electronically into Trainers accounts. Please ensure that you have advised GRSA of your account details on the appropriate forms so this money can be transferred easily.

UPDATED TRIALLING WITH NO EMERLEY PARK

Emerley Park recently advised that some of the facilities at their property would be closed as of 1 July 2014. This would mean that some trainers would become affected by the decision as the Circle Track will no longer be available to be used. The Straight Track will continue to be opened for free galloping and the Bull ring will still be available.

Main users were contacted and they were of the opinion that an additional time slot is required for the sole purpose of allowing trainers to break pups in and to continue education up until they start to compete in Qualifying trials or races.

As the new racing calendar has Gawler racing every Sunday there would be little watering required on a Monday morning to have the surface prepared for trialing. Therefore as of 14 July 2014 trials will be available every Monday at Gawler for trainers at Gawler for the sole purposes of breaking in or education.

These trials will commence at 8.00am and conclude no later than 9.30am.

The number of trials for these days will be monitored and an ongoing assessment will occur with any changes required implemented.

A $7.00 fee for trialing will apply.

2014 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The AGRA National Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at Cannington in Western Australia to be conducted on Saturday 23rd August. Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.

The State series for SA will be held at Angle Park for the Sprint and Distance on Thursday 31st July for the Heats with the State Finals on the 7th August.

The most important date for local trainers to remember is the national closing date for entries. Acceptances for the National Championships will close with GRSA on Thursday 24th July at 12 noon. Nominations must be on the prescribed form and the conditions of nomination must also be signed. The forms are available at GRSA and on the GRSA website.

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the National Acceptance Closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

GRSA TRIAL OFFICE TO CLOSE FROM JULY 1ST
The GRSA trial office which is open every Tuesday night will close from 1st July 2014. With Chasers Restaurant also being open on this night and very little patronage upstairs it was decided to maximise our staffing and close one of these areas. GRSA considered closing the Restaurant however after consultation with the AGRC and participants it was agreed that the option for participants to have a place to view the trials in hot or cold weather out weighted the lack of patronage. From the 1st July the trial office will be closed and all trials will need to be paid upstairs in the Restaurant by the staff there. Please be mindful that the staff in the Restaurant will only take the trial money, any racing documentation can be handed to the staff to be updated the next day.

Food and beverages can be purchased as per normal

On trial night GRSA receives on average of two phone calls per night so anyone who calls after the normal close of administration will get a recorded message. Race fields will be placed upstairs for viewing by oncourse patrons.

AGRA CALENDAR RELEASED

The AGRA Calendar of all Group racing has just been released and is available on the GRSA website. Hard copies are also available from Angle Park and other racing venues.

2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION

After receiving feedback from the Industry and panel groups including the Breeders Task Force and Industry Trainers Panel regarding the Greyhound Auction in October, GRSA discussed this feedback with the AGRC. GRSA was very appreciative of the Industry and AGRC regarding the Auction and how the conditions may be altered to assist Breeders and buyers.

There have been some changes listed below which will be incorporated into the conditions -

1)    Auction Commission

It was agreed to reduce the commission from 15% to 11% of the sale price.

The 11% is GST inclusive.

The revised decision was based on feedback provided by Industry Participants and after further consultation with AGRC Management Committee.

2)    Reserve Prices

It was agreed that there will not be any reserves.

Although this option was considered, it was the belief that we wanted to avoid lots being passed in and that a pseudo reserve can be achieved by the Seller by asking someone to bid on their behalf. By reducing the commission it reduces the cost to the Seller to protect the price if they have to buy the pup back because the bidding price was too low. If the Seller does not have someone available to bid on their behalf a member of the AGRC Committee can provide this service.

3)    Extra Races for Pups sold at the Auction

It was agreed that GRSA will schedule two extra heats and final races for pups sold at the auction.  These races can be accommodated within the normal GRSA racing budget.

The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old.  One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction.  There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series.  This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.

Baring in mind that the Auction details have been released for sometime there was only scope to make minor changes to assist all involved. Ultimately only time will tell based on the support that is received from the Industry.

  • The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refers to a grading advantage and has no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.
