The highlight of the 11 event programme tonight is race 8 on the card, a very classy 600m event with several runners in terrific form.  That event should be a good betting race and there are several good things that should set us up early.

Race 1 and Stew’s Mistake for Don Turner can lead and win the opening event.  Nicely drawn down in box 1 he looks far too good. Stop Scrammin’ will be rattling home late along with Farmeroo.  Box Up 1.3.5.8.

The 2nd and Cool Guinness loves a wide draw and box 8 is perfect.  He won here 2 starts back in 29.92 and that will be good enough to win again.  Tia Belle has been in the money but has been struggling to run a solid 500m of late but still is a place hope.  Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 3 and As It Goes has been on the improve and from box 2 she should kick up early and take catching.  Allen Kenny has been mixing his form of late but the draw should be a big help.  Box Up 1.2.3.4.

The Distance event of the night is race 4 and it only has 5 runners.  Psychotic Gold and Long Gully Surf are the main chances.  It’s not worth boxing a trifecta as it will pay very skinny so let’s go for one in order for $1.00 -  1.8.6

Race 5 and this is a good betting race with several chances.  I have tipped a hit and miss type in Stuzzichino in box 6.  He can come out running or miss the kick.  He is very strong in the run home and looks a big chance.  Box Up 1.6.7.8.

Race 6 and this is another even event with 5 classy runners.  All of them can win with a lucky break.  I have gone with Kalden Gambino.  Box Up 2.4.6.8.

The 7th and the likely leader in the event is Lolly Bale down in box 3.  She led everywhere bar the post when 2nd behind Wild Soul last week, will be hard to beat for mine. Princess Tee from box 8  is well drawn and will run a cheeky race.  Box Up 3.4.7.8.

Race 8 and as I mentioned before what a race over the 600m.  There is a lot of early pace in this but it’s hard to go past the inform Genghis Kahn.  He has a perfect record of 3 from 3 this trip and is strong.  The big dangers are Cool Promise in box 1 and Wild Soul.  Box Up 1.4.6.7.

Race 9 and Westmeath has drawn well in Box 1.  He won last start at Gawler in 30.98.  Tegra Bale is capable but has risky box manners.  Poida will be running on late and will be big odds and is my roughie of the night.  Box Up 1.3.4.8

Race 10 and I am tipping the newcomer in Party Mayhem for the Murray kennel.  He has only had 17 starts for 3 wins and 2 placing’s and is sure to be well tried on debut.  Velocity Daff is in form and will be hard to beat.  Box Up 3.6.7.8

The final event of the night and Big Dingo was impressive on debut when 2nd here in 30.01 and should send us home on a winning note from box 4.  Naturally Curly along with Kisai Blade can fill the placing’s.  Box Up 1.4.6.8

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

VALE

GRSA was saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Neville Hains last Friday. Neville commenced his involvement in greyhound racing around the Gawler area as an Attendant  9 years ago. In 2008 he moved to the other side of town to assist the Rasmussen kennel and became an Owner/Trainer.

He was a familiar face at the greyhound meetings and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Neville’s family and friends at this sad time.

LICENSE RENEWALS DUE 30TH JUNE 2014

Please be advised that you have until 30th June 2014 to renew your license. It is vital that you license before the cut of time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run, this will affect meetings starting with the Gawler Tuesday meeting on 1st July. Check with Owners locally and from Interstate as these were issues last year and get the licenses renewed well and truly before June 30.

AGRA CALENDAR RELEASED

The AGRA Calendar of all Group racing has just been released and is available on the GRSA website. Hard copies are also available from Angle Park and other racing venues.

THURSDAY MORNING TRIALS AT GAWLER

Staff at the trials have reported that Trainers are starting to arrive late for Thursday morning trials which has resulted in late finishes and preventing track staff from attending to their other requirements. These trials will cease at 9.30am unless special circumstances arise.

NO PUBLIC TRIALS AT EMERLEY PARK

Due to personal reasons Emerley Park will no longer provide public trialling, rearing or breaking in facilities after 30 June 2014. After nearly 40 years both Judi and Peter have been a significant part of the greyhound scene and it is unfortunate that the property will not be available to the industry.

2014/2015 RACING CALENDAR

The new 2014/2015 racing dates have been released and the dates are similar to those currently programmed.

Angle Park Monday – 52

Angle Park Tuesday – 2 (due to Gawler Show)

Angle Park Wednesday – 52

Angle Park Thursday - 50

Angle Park Friday - 1 (Adelaide Cup)

Gawler Tuesday – 50 (including 1 night for Gawler Cup heats)

Gawler Thursday – 1

Gawler Friday – 1

Gawler Sunday – 48

Strathalbyn Friday – 25

Strathalbyn Sunday – 3

Mount Gambier Friday – 24

Mount Gambier Sunday – 28

Port Augusta – 16

GOTBA Coursing – 10

Total – TAB meetings (337), Non TAB meetings (26) = 363 meetings

The main changes are listed below -

  • Angle Park will race on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as per normal except that the Adelaide Cup will be run on a Friday and Tuesday during the Gawler Show
  • Gawler will race on Tuesdays and Sundays except that they will run on a Thursday night in place of Angle Park before Adelaide Cup night, there will be no Sunday twilight on Auction Day and there will be a Friday to accommodate Strathalbyn Sunday for their Cup
  • Strathalbyn will race on a fortnightly Friday except for their Strathalbyn Cup meetings which will be on Sundays and during Gawler Show
  • Mt Gambier will race on a weekly rotation of Friday and Sunday except during their Cup series which will be all Sundays
  • Port Augusta as per normal racing
  • GOTBA as per normal racing

Depending on the Gawler project there may be a need to alter some of these dates to accommodate demolition and construction work which could affect racing and trialling.

2014 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The AGRA National Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at Cannington in Western Australia to be conducted on Saturday 23rd August. Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.

The State series for SA will be held at Angle Park for the Sprint and Distance on Thursday 31st July for the Heats with the State Finals on the 7th August.

The most important date for local trainers to remember is the national closing date for entries. Acceptances for the National Championships will close with GRSA on Thursday 24th July at 12 noon. Nominations must be on the prescribed form and the conditions of nomination must also be signed. The forms are available at GRSA and on the GRSA website.

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the National Acceptance Closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

GRSA TRIAL OFFICE TO CLOSE FROM JULY 1ST
The GRSA trial office which is open every Tuesday night will close from 1st July 2014. With Chasers Restaurant also being open on this night and very little patronage upstairs it was decided to maximise our staffing and close one of these areas. GRSA considered closing the Restaurant however after consultation with the AGRC and participants it was agreed that the option for participants to have a place to view the trials in hot or cold weather out weighted the lack of patronage. From the 1st July the trial office will be closed and all trials will need to be paid upstairs in the Restaurant by the staff there. Please be mindful that the staff in the Restaurant will only take the trial money, any racing documentation can be handed to the staff to be updated the next day. On trial night GRSA receives on average of two phone calls per night so anyone who calls after the normal close of administration will get a recorded message. Race fields will be placed upstairs for viewing by oncourse patrons.

GOTBA COURSING STAKEMONEY & RACING SCHEDULE

GOTBA will only race 4-dog events for very young greyhounds just starting their racing career.  To enable them to compete against their own age group, the Club will provide the opportunity for a greyhound to win a maiden event, and 4 juvenile events before it progresses to a Novice event.

All greyhounds just starting racing are entitled to compete in a 4-dog event – Juvenile/Maiden and a young greyhound can then compete in a Juvenile and will be permitted to win up to 4 Juvenile races.  Juvenile events are for greyhounds under 2 years old at the time of nomination.

Greyhounds who have raced on the circle but who have never competed in field coursing are eligible for a Maiden event, these will be 8-dog events and every attempt will be made to grade “like” with “like”, however this will be dependent upon the number of nominations received.

Prizemoney will now be

4-dog event   Winner $120, Runner-Up $40    Nomination fee : $8

8-dog event   Winner $190, Runner-Up $70    Nomination fee : $10

Feature events will be the 2014 SA Waterloo Cup, SA Oaks and SA Derby – all these events are for 16 dogs and prizemoney schedules will be released closer to the events. Of course, if the Club only receives 4 nominations for a specific event, this event will be run as a 4-dog race, e.g. 4 open nominations.    The Club is most appreciative of the support shown by owners/trainers and trusts that this support continues.

2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION

After receiving feedback from the Industry and panel groups including the Breeders Task Force and Industry Trainers Panel regarding the Greyhound Auction in October, GRSA discussed this feedback with the AGRC. GRSA was very appreciative of the Industry and AGRC regarding the Auction and how the conditions may be altered to assist Breeders and buyers.

There have been some changes listed below which will be incorporated into the conditions -

1)    Auction Commission

It was agreed to reduce the commission from 15% to 11% of the sale price.

The 11% is GST inclusive.

The revised decision was based on feedback provided by Industry Participants and after further consultation with AGRC Management Committee.

2)    Reserve Prices

It was agreed that there will not be any reserves.

Although this option was considered, it was the belief that we wanted to avoid lots being passed in and that a pseudo reserve can be achieved by the Seller by asking someone to bid on their behalf. By reducing the commission it reduces the cost to the Seller to protect the price if they have to buy the pup back because the bidding price was too low. If the Seller does not have someone available to bid on their behalf a member of the AGRC Committee can provide this service.

3)    Extra Races for Pups sold at the Auction

It was agreed that GRSA will schedule two extra heats and final races for pups sold at the auction.  These races can be accommodated within the normal GRSA racing budget.

The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old.  One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction.  There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series.  This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.

Baring in mind that the Auction details have been released for sometime there was only scope to make minor changes to assist all involved. Ultimately only time will tell based on the support that is received from the Industry.

  • The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refers to a grading advantage and has no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.
