Tonight's Angle Park Preview
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
Last Thursday we showed a glimpse of form on the punt and would have just finished on the right side of the ledger. Our roughie charged home late and ran a very good 2nd and helped big time. So tonight is very even and we might be able to snag one at handy odds.
Race 1 and there are three dogs that stand out. The 2-5-6 all have their fair share of ability and a couple have a good turn of early pace, BUT, I am going with a hit and miss type in Dyna Hakon down in box 2 for the Matcott kennel. He is very strong and hopefully will hold the fence early. The other two will be carving across. Add in Victa Victoria and that’s the first four. Box up 1.2.5.6
The second and there are a few of these around and that is Rogue Trader. He has the draw and the pace to lead and win here. I like Poida who will be charging home for a bit of value along with Dyna Morrigan who will be up there early. Box up 1.3.4.7
Race 3 and the pacey Kalden Balerion will prove very hard to beat for the Troy Murray kennel. He looks very hard to beat on the bunny. Allen Kenny is well drawn along with Dyna Widget. Box up 1.2.7.8.
Race 4 and this is a toughie as there are several hopes. I have tipped the 3 in Gilbert Allen for Lisa Rasmussen. He can be hit and miss early but should find this a little easier than past couple. Doona Bale will be charging home late along with Kalina Allen. Box up 1.3.7.8.
The 5th and this one will be very short in the market. The well performed Cairnlea Layla grows a leg when on the bunny and has a record of 5 wins and 2 placing’s from only 9 starts over this trip at this venue. Make the two a stand out from 4.6.8.
Race 6 and the inside 3 look to have the edge as they should be leading around the 1st turn. Kenso Karoo can hold the rails and go on and win. Smash Crash has a good turn of early dash and will be in the mix. Box up 1.2.3.7
Race 7 and how good is this race!!! There is a ton of ability and they have drawn the book ends. Add in the well performed Spring Amanda who has won 3 on the trot here in box 7 and Wild Soul who will be flying home late despite the draw. Go with the flow and box up 1.5.7.8.
Race 8 and winning form is good form. Fire Tyson showed them a clean set of paws here last start from box 7 and carved out a personal best in 29.58. Based on that run he is hard to tip against. The Petar Jovanovic sprinter in Charmed Assassin keeps on improving and will be right in the mix. Add in Encosta Kahn and Wiregrass for the placing’s. Box up 1.2.5.6.
Race 9 and this is the distance race of the night with only 5 runners and the Jovanovic kennel has 4 of them. Keep your eye on the 2 runner as she can run but has yet to show it in a race, 2.4.8 look the chances.
The 10th and this one will start VERY short. Big Zap for the Murray kennel. He is very smart and has a personal best of 29.65 and that would win this by a country mile so make him a stand out 2- 1.6.8.
The final event and we can go home on a winner with a bit of value and that is Omar Bale. His biggest problem is he can be very slow early but box 3 will enhance his chances. As It Goes is well drawn along with Velocity Lyrem. Box up 1.3.5.8.
Best Bets but they will be short Race 3 no 1- Kalden Balerion
Race 5 no 2- Cairnlea Layla
Race 10 no 2 – Big Zap
Best each way Race 11 no 3 – Omar Bale
Best Roughie Race 4 no 7 - Red Tin

MACRO MEATS NEW SPONSOR FOR ADELAIDE CUP
Ray Borda has thrown his support behind the Group 1 Adelaide Cup and signed up as the naming rights sponsor for SA’s flagship event. This year the Macro Meats Group 1 Adelaide Cup will be run on Friday 10th October for the first time and its great to have Ray on board. Ray has been a terrific sponsor of greyhound racing in Australia with his Macro Meats brand and has committed to not only the Adelaide Cup series but also sponsorship of all clubs in SA along with significant track signage.
Triple M will still be on board the Group 1 event with Roo and Ditts continuing their association with the feature final. Please see the attached Media Release for more information.
65 ROSES CAMPAIGN IN FULL SWING THIS MONTH
Greyhound Racing SA and Greyhound Racing NSW have joined forces in supporting Cystic Fibrosis for the month of May. As part of the campaign GRSA will donate $250 for every red rug winner at all Angle Park meetings staged throughout May. So on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the number 1 greyhound has an even greater incentive to win and assist a worthy cause. Already there is $2,500 heading to Cystic Fibrosis with 10 winners so far this month from Box 1.
SUPPORT OF SERVICE PROVIDERS DOCUMENT AVAILABLE
From the last ICG meeting it was agreed that GRSA would provide a document to assist participants entering into agreements with clients. This Service Providers document is now available on the GRSA website under the Trainers section.
2014 GROUP 3 HOWARD ASHTON HEATS

As there were 7 heats, we will be running three Semi-Finals worth $4,700 next Thursday night. Heat winners were –
Dakota Premier- 29.80
Dakota La Flash – 30.04
Little Dakota – 29.97

Footrot Fanning – 30.02
GAWLER DEVELOPMENT TO START SHORTLY
Shortly the starting date of the new Gawler development will be released anticipated to be later this month. The development should last until around the middle of October and the venue ready for the Gawler Cup series later that month. With the work required at the venue there will be changes to the racing dates. For the new season from the 1st July 2014 Gawler will race on Tuesdays and Sundays every week with work being conducted in between this period. The Strathalbyn Club has advised that they will assist Gawler by moving into a rotation with Mt Gambier on Friday, racing every fortnight. We appreciate the Southern Greyhound Raceways support for this move during this period of development. Trialing at Gawler will be affected. For the remaining part of the season we will have to advise of the necessary changes to accommodate work at the venue when the developers provide their requirements. GRSA appreciates all clubs and staff flexibility during this exciting time for the Industry.
FEATURE RACES AT PORT AUGUSTA IN THE COMING MONTHS
On Saturday 24th May the club will feature the Patron’s Cup over the 447m before the Port Augusta Cup Carnival kicks off on Saturday 7th June with the heats followed two weeks later with the $3,000 Port Augusta City Council Final. Keep up to date with all the feature races by grabbing a copy of the May and June All Tracks Calendar.
SHANE MCQUEEN MEMORIAL IN LATE MAY
The main 600m feature at Angle Park comes up on Thursday 29th May with the running of the heats of the Shane McQueen Memorial. This series has always been well supported by the Industry with 3 or 4 heats normally run. The Final will be held on Thursday 5th June and will be worth $6,875.
Nominations close on Monday 26th May with GRSA at 9.00am
GRADE 4 FEATURE HEATS IN JUNE
The next low grade feature to be run at Angle Park will be Grade 4 Heats to be run on Thursday 12th June with the Final on Thursday 19th June.
The heats are worth $3,240 and the final will be $4,265.
Nominations close on Friday 6th June at 9.00am with GRSA due to the June long weekend.
LICENSE RENEWALS EXTENDED UNTIL 30TH JUNE 2014
Please be advised that you will now have until 30th June 2014 to renew your license. GRSA has made the change to fall in line with the rest of Australia and also accommodate the Ozchase system.
So the 30th June is the new date however it is vital that you license before the cut of time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run. Check with Owners locally and from Interstate as these were issues last year and get the licenses renewed well and truly before June 30. Renewals will be sent out in early June.
VETERANS RACE CONDITIONS
To help encourage Veteran’s races GRSA has opened up the conditions to allow for greyhounds now 3 ½ years or older to compete. The 4yo or older greyhounds will still receive preference but now those other greyhounds can be considered and will only be included in age order (older greyhounds first). Greyhounds must still have raced or qualified in the previous 3 months. These races are all Non Penalty and recently we have started programming 388m and 400m events and in the next few months we will also run FFA’s and also Grade 5’s.
It is important that if you have an eligible greyhound that you nominate for a “Veterans” event programmed but also put an alternate preference just in case there are not enough Veterans to make up a race.
2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION
After receiving feedback from the Industry and panel groups including the Breeders Task Force and Industry Trainers Panel regarding the Greyhound Auction in October, GRSA discussed this feedback with the AGRC. GRSA was very appreciative of the Industry and AGRC regarding the Auction and how the conditions may be altered to assist Breeders and buyers.
There have been some changes listed below which will be incorporated into the conditions -
1) Auction Commission
It was agreed to reduce the commission from 15% to 11% of the sale price.
The 11% is GST inclusive.
The revised decision was based on feedback provided by Industry Participants and after further consultation with AGRC Management Committee.
2) Reserve Prices
It was agreed that there will not be any reserves.
Although this option was considered, it was the belief that we wanted to avoid lots being passed in and that a pseudo reserve can be achieved by the Seller by asking someone to bid on their behalf. By reducing the commission it reduces the cost to the Seller to protect the price if they have to buy the pup back because the bidding price was too low. If the Seller does not have someone available to bid on their behalf a member of the AGRC Committee can provide this service.
3) Extra Races for Pups sold at the Auction
It was agreed that GRSA will schedule two extra heats and final races for pups sold at the auction. These races can be accommodated within the normal GRSA racing budget.
The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old. One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction. There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series. This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.
Baring in mind that the Auction details have been released for sometime there was only scope to make minor changes to assist all involved. Ultimately only time will tell based on the support that is received from the Industry.
- The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refers to a grading advantage and has no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.
