TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Race 1 and Cairnlea Layla will start us off on winning note but will be very short from box 7.  She will bounce back from her defeat last week.  Dyna Gray can hunt up and run a cheeky race.  Box up 1-2-7-8

The 2nd and all the money will be on Lylas.  He has a good turn of early pace and a terrific win ratio.  However I have gone with Wild Soul who will be charging home late at good eachway odds.  Box up 1-2-3-5.

If you are looking for pace jump on Aston Kane.  He is a slick type who won his past 4 starts over the short here and at Gawler, all in quick times.  The extra distance shouldn’t be a worry.  Nevada Smith is in good form and will be running on strongly.  Add in Poida at good odds and that looks the trifecta.  Box up 1-2-3-5.

Race 4 and this is the distance affair of the night.  Lune Jinx returns from 2 runs in Victoria and looks the measuring stick here.  Immy Rose is an interesting runner from Victoria who has been racing well over the 600m.  Box up 1-3-5-6.

The 5th event on the card and this is a very open affair with a heap of chances.  When in doubt go with the rails draw, Sienna Bale.  She is a big chance of kicking up early from box 1.  The big dangers are the pacey Avid Tyson and Penny Allen.  Box up 1-3-4-6.

Race 6 and the two main chances are Contrarian and Galilee Spirit.  They both have pace and this is an interesting race to the first turn.  Box up 1-2-3-8, the 1 dog appears the value.

The 7th and it’s very hard to go past Fire Tyson.  He ran a good 2nd here last week behind Chemical Maker who is the main danger again tonight, but is a chance of turning the tables from the rails draw.  Box up 1-2-4-8.

Race 8 and this is the best race of the night with a heap of youngsters who are all in good form competing for the winners title.  Wingard has the pace to lead from box 8 and Des Hockley has him in terrific form.  There are several chances for the placing’s so we will go wide as Dakota Premier carved out a slick BON win here last start in 29.57.  Box 6 is the worry here.  Box up 1-4-6-8 in a terrific race.

The 9th event tonight and jump of Faust’s Felis from box 1.  He has drawn well and can kick up and hold the early lead for mine.  Pepper Kahn and Krafty Streaker will be right in the mix.  Box up 1-3-4-7.

Race 10 and Nathan Rooney hasn’t travelled here for nothing.  His best chance looks to be Extinguisher, who has some very influential owners!!  Forget box 5, he can run when on song and is my top pick (sorry guys).  Add in Best Friend and Cool Promise for the trifecta.  Box up 1-2-5-6.

The last event and Troy Murray has a smart one, Kalden Balerion who should lead and win from box 2.  Box up 1-2-3-5 with the 2 as a stand out.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

BREEDERS 2014 PRELUDE (2) FINAL TONIGHT

What an outstanding final we have tonight for the second Prelude of Breeders 2014. The winners of last Wednesday heats have all drawn a little awkward with Dakota Premier (29.57) in box 6, Wingard (29.78) out in the 8 even though he has brilliant speed and Winbrook (29.79) in the squeeze box 4. Luck will play a huge part tonight with such an even final with all eight a chance to pick up the greater portion of the $4,900 final.

After tonights series these greyhounds will turn their attention to the Group 3 Howard Ashton series. The heats will be run on Wednesday 14th May, semi finals on Thursday 22nd May and then the $36,000 final on Thursday 29th May. This will make for some exciting racing over the next couple of months.

NO TRIALS AT STRATHALBYN TOMORROW NIGHT

There will be No trials tomorrow night at Strathalbyn due to staffing unavailability’s at the Club due to the Anzac Day public holiday.

SA BRED TONK WINS GROUP 1 GOLDEN EASTER EGG FINAL

SA Bred greyhounds seem to be winning every second race at the moment and on the national scene they continue to do well. After Ernie Bung Arrow won last years Group 1 Adelaide Cup, Tonk bred by Karen Bearpark won the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg Final at Wentworth Park last Saturday.  Tonk trained by Brooke Ennis is no stranger to SA racing after running a gallant second to Ernie Bung Arrow in last years SA Derby final and has continued on his excellent form.

Also SA Bred Texas Titan bred by the Trowbridge’s and trained by Rob Britton ran third in the Group 2 Launching Pad last Thursday night at Sandown after starting one of the favourites and looks to have a bright future.

GAWLER FUTURE STARS HEATS ON TUESDAY

The next feature at Gawler will be the heats of the Gawler Future Stars for SA Bred greyhounds whelped in 2012 to be run over 531m. The heats will be run on Tuesday with the $2,450 final the following week on Tuesday 6th May.

NEXT LOW GRADE FEATURE HEATS

We have reprogrammed the Juvenile series lost a few weeks ago for heats on 1st May and the final on 8th May. With all the restricted age features coming up in the next few months this was our only opportunity to run this series. This will also coincide with the SA Owned Grade 5 series on these dates.

Nominations close on Monday 28th April at 9.00am with GRSA.

MORE TRIALING OPPORTUNIES

After the most recent ICG meeting it was advised that the opportunites for trainers to trial their greyhounds at race meetings be increased where possible. This is mainly for those trainers travelling long distances to get to a race meeting.

LICENSE RENEWALS EXTENDED UNTIL 30TH JUNE 2014

Please be advised that you will now have until 30th June 2014 to renew your license. GRSA has made the change to fall in line with the rest of Australia and also accommodate the Ozchase system.

So the 30th June is the new date however it is vital that you license before the cut of time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run. Check with Owners locally and from Interstate as these were issues last year and get the licenses renewed well and truly before June 30. Renewals will be sent out in early June.

MOUNT GAMBIER NEWS

The club will donate all the gate takings to Legacy and will have a minutes silence in commemoration of ANZAC Day. Feature races on the day include–

$1,035 ANZAC Cup – Best 8 – 512m

$1,035 ANZAC Sprint – Best 8 – 400m

PORT AUGUSTA NEWS

ANZAC DAY GREYHOUNDS TOMORROW

The Port Augusta Greyhound Club is also racing on Anzac Day with a huge 9 race program. This meeting is a Non TAB fixture and features the Commonwealth Hotel 682 metre event, the Glad Butterfield Memorial mixed stake and Lois & Gary Rawlings Open Maiden. Racing starts at 1.00pm tomorrow at Chinnery Park with the club expecting a good turnout.

Day meetings will continue at Port Augusta until the warmer December weather with their next meeting on Saturday 10th May.

GOTBA COURSING BEGINS IN MAY

A reminder to participants that GOTBA Coursing starts in May this season on 4th May. Normally the club will have a racing date in April however as this was over Easter it was decided to hold off for two weeks.

TREATMENT BOOKS

Treatment Books are now available on the GRSA website. Simply log on and go to the Trainers page to find a link for “Treatment Record Book”. There are quite a few pages there so make sure you have plenty of paper in the printer. (most pages are extras at the back) Some of our helpful staff at GRSA should be able to help you if you are having trouble downloading.

VETERANS RACE CONDITIONS

To help encourage Veteran’s races GRSA has opened up the conditions to allow for greyhounds now 3 ½ years or older to compete. The 4yo or older greyhounds will still receive preference but now those other greyhounds can be considered and will only be included in age order (older greyhounds first). Greyhounds must still have raced or qualified in the previous 3 months. These races are all Non Penalty and recently we have started programming 388m and 400m events and in the next few months we will also run FFA’s and also Grade 5’s.

It is important that if you have an eligible greyhound that you nominate for a “Veterans” event programmed but also put an alternate preference just in case there are not enough Veterans to make up a race.

EXOTIC BETTING FOR DAY MEETINGS
Punters please be aware that all South Australian day meetings covered by TattsBet have their exotics the same as twilight and night
meetings which means that the Quadrella is now on races 5 to 8.

It also looks like we have fixed odds on Wednesdays at Angle Park meaning that every Angle Park meeting has fixed odds available.

2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION

After receiving feedback from the Industry and panel groups including the Breeders Task Force and Industry Trainers Panel regarding the Greyhound Auction in October, GRSA discussed this feedback with the AGRC. GRSA was very appreciative of the Industry and AGRC regarding the Auction and how the conditions may be altered to assist Breeders and buyers.

There have been some changes listed below which will be incorporated into the conditions -

1)    Auction Commission

It was agreed to reduce the commission from 15% to 11% of the sale price.

The 11% is GST inclusive.

The revised decision was based on feedback provided by Industry Participants and after further consultation with AGRC Management Committee.

2)    Reserve Prices

It was agreed that there will not be any reserves.

Although this option was considered, it was the belief that we wanted to avoid lots being passed in and that a pseudo reserve can be achieved by the Seller by asking someone to bid on their behalf. By reducing the commission it reduces the cost to the Seller to protect the price if they have to buy the pup back because the bidding price was too low. If the Seller does not have someone available to bid on their behalf a member of the AGRC Committee can provide this service.

3)    Extra Races for Pups sold at the Auction

It was agreed that GRSA will schedule two extra heats and final races for pups sold at the auction.  These races can be accommodated within the normal GRSA racing budget.

The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old.  One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction.  There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series.  This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.

Baring in mind that the Auction details have been released for sometime there was only scope to make minor changes to assist all involved. Ultimately only time will tell based on the support that is received from the Industry.

  • The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refers to a grading advantage and has no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.
