Tonight's Angle Park Preview
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
Another week rolls buy and the punting will need to pick up as we have the Easter break rapidly arriving and we all need the extra cash for the break.
Race 1 and this will be the last time I tip Encosta Kahn, he’s got me a couple of times recently !!! Encosta Kahn is perfectly drawn out in box 8. FORGET the past couple and let’s hope he can kick us off on a winning note. The big dangers come from everywhere and that is Avid Tyson and Springvale Cool. Box Up 1.5.7.8.
The second is a very good betting race and I have gone with the inside 3. Rebel Kist is very smart when on song and he carved out a slick 29.68 two runs back from box 1. He can bounce back and salute here. Little Dakota has the draw and needs to begin. Add in Nowak and a roughie for mine is Long Gully Mags who could cross and pinch this. Box Up 1.2.3.7
Race 3 and he looks the best bet of the night. Mepunga Aztec, is in fine form and will take a power of beating despite the draw. So put him one out in the trifecta. 4 / 3.6.8
The fourth and Regal Looper is in fine form and loves a rails draw. He is very smart when close up early and will run on and win. Pepper Kahn has led at her past couple only to be run down. Add in Fun For All and that looks the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.3.4.
Race 5 and this is the 600m event of the night and how could you tip against Rulebook from box 1. He has been blessed by the draws since transferring to SA and carved out a slick 34.87 here last week on the back of a 29.26 win over the sprint. Box 1 as a stand out from 2.5.8.
Race 6 is a very interesting affair with several chances. The good form is with Allen Illem who has been placed here in 4 of his last 5 and a bit of luck early would see him salute. Omar Bale is more than capable and is well drawn also. Box Up 2.3.6.8.
The seventh and there appears to be two main chances and they are Kenso Karoo and Very Bitta. The later gets the nod for mine as he has a good turn of early pace and will be very hard to beat. Don’t forget Tyson Willow and Happy Skipper who is more than capable with a clear run. Box Up 3.4.5.7 add in the 6 as a saviour.
Race 8 is a top class race and there are several chances and a heap of pace from the lids. Sidney’s Shadow will start the punters elect and should as she is a class act despite the draw.
I am going with a little bit of value in Genghis Kahn from box 1. He won here in 29.68 from this draw three starts back but this is tough. Don’t forget Chemical Maker who is a class act. Box Up 1.4.5.6 in a terrific betting race.
The 700m event of the night and we tipped him to run a place last week, Husky Dreamer. He proved far too strong at 11/1 and carved out a more than handy 43.19 win. On that effort the John Gale runner will be very hard to beat again. Doona Bale is always around the mark along with Mclaren Grace. Box Up 1.2.4.8.
Race 10 and we have a smart youngster in Cool Guinness. He won on debut here in 29.94 from box 1 leading all the way. Looks well suited again tonight. Box Up 2.3.6.7
The final event and there are several chances here. I have gone for the Peter Hurley chaser in Jetson Kist down in box 1. He isn’t blessed with early pace but will be flying home late, each way odds Winbrook is in form but box 7 is the only worry. Box Up 1.2.7.8.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS
2014 GOLDEN EASTER EGG SEMI FINALS
What an unbelievable start to the rich 2014 Golden Easter Egg Carnival last Saturday night at Wentworth Park with fast times and a “no race” on an exciting card of racing. GRNSW had to ballot for the three spots out of the “no race” to join those that qualified from the heats in the semi finals.
Fastest qualifier for the semi-finals was Keybow who blistered around Sydney’s premier track in a flying 29.45 and looks to be very hard to beat.
Heat winners were dominated by the biggest names in greyhound racing with Andrea Dailly , Darren McDonald, Paul Stuart and Eddie Medhurst all collecting heat wins. There will be four semi finals this Saturday night being races 5,6,7 and 8 on the card starting at 8.20pm (SA time) with the final on Saturday 19th April worth $250,000 to the winner.
Heat winners were –
Dyna Nalin (29.69)
Iona Tokyo (29.78)
Easton Bale (29.83)
Warrior King (29.91)
Keybow (29.45)
Ollie Bale (29.96)
Buckle Up Wes (29.56)
Magic Display (29.94)
Dark Warrior (30.29)
There are also three excellent heats of the Group 1 Association Cup for the stayers featuring Dyna Willow, Xylia Allen and Born Ali.
RACES ABANDONED AT STRATHALBYN AND GAWLER IN THE LAST WEEK
On Sunday 6th April the last two races at Strathalbyn were abandoned due to an electrical fault with the track lights. Staff has been rectifying the problem this week so trials and racing should not be a problem.
On Tuesday 8th April at Gawler the last three races were abandoned due to the wet weather and state of the track.
LICENSE RENEWALS EXTENDED UNTIL 30TH JUNE 2014
Please be advised that you will now have until 30th June 2014 to renew your license. GRSA has made the change to fall in line with the rest of Australia and also accommodate the Ozchase system.
So the 30th June is the new date however it is vital that you license before the cut of time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run. Check with Owners locally and from Interstate as these were issues last year and get the licenses renewed well and truly before June 30. Renewals will be sent out in early June.
2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION
After receiving feedback from the Industry and panel groups including the Breeders Task Force and Industry Trainers Panel regarding the Greyhound Auction in October, GRSA discussed this feedback with the AGRC. GRSA was very appreciative of the Industry and AGRC regarding the Auction and how the conditions may be altered to assist Breeders and buyers.
There have been some changes listed below which will be incorporated into the conditions -
1) Auction Commission
It was agreed to reduce the commission from 15% to 11% of the sale price.
The 11% is GST inclusive.
The revised decision was based on feedback provided by Industry Participants and after further consultation with AGRC Management Committee.
2) Reserve Prices
It was agreed that there will not be any reserves.
Although this option was considered, it was the belief that we wanted to avoid lots being passed in and that a pseudo reserve can be achieved by the Seller by asking someone to bid on their behalf. By reducing the commission it reduces the cost to the Seller to protect the price if they have to buy the pup back because the bidding price was too low. If the Seller does not have someone available to bid on their behalf a member of the AGRC Committee can provide this service.
3) Extra Races for Pups sold at the Auction
It was agreed that GRSA will schedule two extra heats and final races for pups sold at the auction. These races can be accommodated within the normal GRSA racing budget.
The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old. One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction. There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series. This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.
Baring in mind that the Auction details have been released for sometime there was only scope to make minor changes to assist all involved. Ultimately only time will tell based on the support that is received from the Industry.
- The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refers to a grading advantage and has no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.
UPDATED MONDAY NIGHT POLICY
The policy below has been updated for Monday night trials. The change refers to other distances being considered for trialing if both 515m trials are not filled.

PORT AUGUSTA NEWS
ANZAC Day Greyhounds
The feature event of The Port Augusta Greyhound Club’s Anzac Day Meeting is The Commonwealth Hotel 682 metre event. Racing starts at 1.00pm on Friday at Chinnery Park. Day meetings will continue until the warmer December weather.
At the last twilight meeting the club was able to support the McGrath Breast Cancer Foundation, while the Quorn/ Willsden Football Club sponsored and attended the other March meet.
Local trainer Ken Newlyn and his wife Nicole had three winners at the two March meetings. Yvonne Maxwell from Whyalla won with White Roller at both meets.
Both Peter Smith (with Maori Winslow and Five Foot Thor) and Don Turner (with Dan Holder and Panic King) scored a double.
The best two runs for March were Hot Wifey (trained by Alisha Sutherland) and Roffer Ronnie (trained by Kel Stott from Balaklava). Both dogs were well supported and are expected to win more races. Ken Myers’s exciting youngster, Killers Bounty won in 25.54 over 447metres. Brenton Cleggert from Laura had quite a few runners with Red Norm saluting in 25.53 winning by 8 ¾ lengths.
It was good to see “Della” back at the track and to hear that club supporter Bobby Digance, who has been on the sick list, is reported to be much better.
GOTBA COURSING BEGINS IN MAY
A reminder to participants that GOTBA Coursing starts in May this season on 4th May. Normally the club will have a racing date in April however as this was over Easter it was decided to hold off for two weeks.
VETERANS RACE CONDITIONS
To help encourage Veteran’s races GRSA has opened up the conditions to allow for greyhounds now 3 ½ years or older to compete. The 4yo or older greyhounds will still receive preference but now those other greyhounds can be considered and will only be included in age order (older greyhounds first). Greyhounds must still have raced or qualified in the previous 3 months. These races are all Non Penalty and recently we have started programming 388m and 400m events and in the next few months we will also run FFA’s and also Grade 5’s.
It is important that if you have an eligible greyhound that you nominate for a “Veterans” event programmed but also put an alternate preference just in case there are not enough Veterans to make up a race.
