TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Well if you followed my tips last week the pockets, purses and wallets should be over flowing.  We had a terrific night on the punt but can we follow up ????

Race 1 and a great race to kick off with.  I have tipped the inside 4, it will all depend on the jump and a mad scramble to the first turn.  When in doubt go for box 1, Dyna Hakon.  He has been thereabouts and will be right in this.  Encosta Kahn should start the punters elect so box up 1.2.3.4. (with confidence)

The second event and Wingard is in fine form.  He has the pace to lead despite the poor draw of 4.  He will be the one to catch for mine.  There are several for the minors so we should box up 1.3.4.8.

Race 3 and the favourite will start from box 5, Springvale Cool.  She should lead and prove far too strong on her last start win here in 29.87 from box 8.  Ceduna Cruiser is more than handy along with Victa Nicole.  Box up 1.2.5.6.

Race 4 and the inside 3 all look well drawn, so open the wallet and let’s have a good wager on Little Dakota.  He loves the rails and will be VERY hard to beat in this.  The other 2 can be hit and miss early but are strong.  Don’t forget the Fewings kennel with Rajas Ogre who won here Monday night.  That kennel is on FIRE.  Box Up 1.2.3.5

The fifth on the card and how good was the run of Rulebook here last week on debut for the Murray kennel when he won by over 9L in a SENSATIONAL 29.26?  Only a brave person would tip against him on that run.  With a clear run on a good track he will run a very slick time.  Box Up 2 as a stand out from 5.7.8.

Race 6 and he looks one of the better bets on the programme, Wild Soul for the Johnstone kennel.  The wide draw is a bonus and he rattled home to run a terrific 2nd here last week behind Suntory Gold in 30.00.  Kennington Oval is an improver along with Carlos Tyson.  Box Up 3.6.7.8.

Stop Scrammin’ showed a bit of class here on debut for the Jovanovic kennel when winning in 29.83 on a fast track.  In race 7 he should only improve and be very hard to beat tonight.  Suntory Gold will be rattling home late along with the pacey Mr. Donatello who can cross and lead from box 6.  This is a very open race and the trifecta should be handy.  Box Up 1.3.5.6.

Race 8 now this is a good punting race with at least 4 main chances I have tipped Dee Dee Corsair in recent weeks and I am leaving him out of my top 4!! (not smart).  So have a little wager just in case. Box Up 2.3.4.8.   I have tipped Genghis Kahn because of the draw.

The ninth race is the distance affair.  Luna Jinx has been transferred to Victoria so keep a watch out for her in the coming weeks.  So Doona Bale and Umika Bale are the main 2 in this and should find this a lot easier than recent runs over the journey.  Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 10 and the most open race of the night.  Good luck if we are losing, I would say it’s time to put the cue in the rack if we are or we can jag a winner at handy odds.  Box Up 1.5.6.7 and let’s have a wager on the 1 because of the draw.

The final event and they call it the get out stakes but we should be that far in front we will be sipping on Champagne.  Nevada Smith is drawn to lead and win for the Gavin Harris kennel, he won here last start in a more than handy 30.14 from box 4 and will send us home on a winning note.  Jacko Lankin is more than handy along with Multiply By For.  Box Up 2.5.6.8.

NEW TRACK RECORD OVER 400M FOR AVID TYSON

Avid Tyson trained by Tony Lagana ran a new track record on Tuesday at Gawler over the 400m. She has previously held the 400m track record and on Tuesday ran a sizzling 22.27 when she led throughout from box 4 to record a 5 1/2 length win. She bettered the old track record by .07 which was set on 4th June 2013 by Cash Or Credit.

EXOTIC BETTING FOR DAY MEETINGS
Punters please be aware that all South Australian day meetings covered by TattsBet have their exotics the same as twilight and night
meetings which means that the Quadrella is now on races 5 to 8.

It also looks like we have fixed odds on Wednesdays at Angle Park meaning that every Angle Park meeting has fixed odds available.

LICENSE RENEWALS EXTENDED UNTIL 30TH JUNE 2014

Please be advised that you will now have until 30th June 2014 to renew your license. GRSA has made the change to fall in line with the rest of Australia and also accommodate the Ozchase system.

So the 30th June is the new date however it is vital that you license before the cut of time to ensure no greyhounds will miss a run. Check with Owners locally and from Interstate as these were issues last year and get the licenses renewed well and truly before June 30. Renewals will be sent out in early June.

GAWLER CANNONBALL THIS MONTH

2014 GREYHOUND AUCTION

After receiving feedback from the Industry and panel groups including the Breeders Task Force and Industry Trainers Panel regarding the Greyhound Auction in October, GRSA discussed this feedback with the AGRC. GRSA was very appreciative of the Industry and AGRC regarding the Auction and how the conditions may be altered to assist Breeders and buyers.

There have been some changes listed below which will be incorporated into the conditions -

1)    Auction Commission

It was agreed to reduce the commission from 15% to 11% of the sale price.

The 11% is GST inclusive.

The revised decision was based on feedback provided by Industry Participants and after further consultation with AGRC Management Committee.

2)    Reserve Prices

It was agreed that there will not be any reserves.

Although this option was considered, it was the belief that we wanted to avoid lots being passed in and that a pseudo reserve can be achieved by the Seller by asking someone to bid on their behalf. By reducing the commission it reduces the cost to the Seller to protect the price if they have to buy the pup back because the bidding price was too low. If the Seller does not have someone available to bid on their behalf a member of the AGRC Committee can provide this service.

3)    Extra Races for Pups sold at the Auction

It was agreed that GRSA will schedule two extra heats and final races for pups sold at the auction.  These races can be accommodated within the normal GRSA racing budget.

The main race series Heats and Final are scheduled for May 2016 when the youngest pups will be 24 months old.  One month before (April) there will be a Wednesday 388m series with Heats and Final for pups sold at the auction.  There will also be a Wednesday heats 515m and Final Thursday night 515m held in June the month after the main race series.  This gives the buyer more opportunity to recover some of their expenditure and the breeder greater opportunity to receive breeder bonuses.

Baring in mind that the Auction details have been released for sometime there was only scope to make minor changes to assist all involved. Ultimately only time will tell based on the support that is received from the Industry.

  • The extra conditions for Interstate greyhounds only refers to a grading advantage and has no bearing on the SA Bred pool of money.

VETERANS RACE CONDITIONS

To help encourage Veteran’s races GRSA has opened up the conditions to allow for greyhounds now 3 ½ years or older to compete. The 4yo or older greyhounds will still receive preference but now those other greyhounds can be considered and will only be included in age order (older greyhounds first). Greyhounds must still have raced or qualified in the previous 3 months. These races are all Non Penalty and recently we have started programming 388m and 400m events and in the next few months we will also run FFA’s and also Grade 5’s.

It is important that if you have an eligible greyhound that you nominate for a “Veterans” event programmed but also put an alternate preference just in case there are not enough Veterans to make up a race.

UPDATED LOCAL RULES

Local rules will be updated in the next edition of kennel capers which is due out next week with license renewals, license applications, nomination forms and online nomination screens updated.

INTERSTATE GRADING INTO SA - BY DISTANCE RANGE

Below is a table which shows distance ranges to initialize a greyhound which comes into SA from another state requiring a grade prior to commencing it’s racing debut. As you would be aware interstate greyhounds are given a grade which is in line to GRSA guidelines policy re: Grading of Interstate Greyhounds & Purchasing of Interstate Greyhounds.

                                Distance Range

                                0 – 475

                                475 – 599

                                600 – 699

                                700+

If an interstate greyhound is nominated to race in SA, but is owned interstate it will be graded on it’s current city class grade. Let’s say is a Grade 4 at Sandown at their Metro meeting over 515m, but is a grade 5 over 600m at that meeting then that greyhound is a Grade 4 at all venues in SA over the 475 – 599 range, but a grade 5 over all the other distances in SA.

TREATMENT BOOKS

Treatment Books are now available on the GRSA website. Simply log on and go to the Trainers page to find a link for “Treatment Record Book”. There are quite a few pages there so make sure you have plenty of paper in the printer. (most pages are extras at the back) Some of our helpful staff at GRSA should be able to help you if you are having trouble downloading.

BREEDERS REBATE FOR MISSED LITTER

From the previous Breeders Task Force meeting back in March 2013 the panel made an amendment to the Breeders Rebate conditions that if a bitch misses or the pups are still born then a rebate can be claimed for the sunk cost associated with that mating. This will however be considered as one of the two rebates allowed in each financial year and is likely to be largely restricted to reimbursement of veterinary expense (maximum $600). Rebates under these circumstances will not include the stud fee because it is assumed that a condition of the mating is that it will accommodate a return service when a bitch misses or produces a still-born litter. Breeders are reminded of this condition and that it is imperative that before getting their bitch served that they lodge the application for the rebate with GRSA up to 3 days before the service or else a rebate may not be approved.
