MEDIA RELEASE – TONIGHTS ANGLE PARK PREVIEW

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

If you won Monday night, then you are a genius as several roughies saluted the judge, but I think we can bounce back tonight.  There are no odds on hopes so we the punter can have the chance to recoup a dollar or two.

The first event and we can kick start the night with the Troy Murray trained Kalden Crixus.  He led early on debut but got very tired in the run home and finished 4th.  That was several weeks ago and he should be primed for this.  Add in Mimic Master and Ceduna Cruiser.  Box up 1.3.4.7

In race 2 Sidney’s Shadow found a bit of trouble here last week and finished 2nd behind Set The Scene in 29.90.  She can bounce back and give us two early winners.  Jacky Blue Eye is well drawn from box 1 and will run a cheeky race.  Box up 1.5.6.8

Race 3 and Tait Bale has his paw on the till with 5 placing’s in a row here.  He can bounce to the front and finally breakthrough for a much deserved win. The minors look to be Gilbert Allen and Queen Rascal.  Add in Big Mick Dee for value, box up 1.3.4.8

The Distance race of the night is next on the card and this looks to be a good event to have a trifecta bet.  The Wally Harkins chaser, Who De Punk has the pace to cross early and win on her distance debut.  Box up 2.4. 6.7

Race 5 and this is a tough race on paper.  There are several chances tonight.  I have tipped Victa Scott but not with a lot of confidence!!   Cawbourne Jet has pace and has a good chance of leading.  Box up 1.4.5.8   Good Luck.

Onto the sixth and there isn’t a lot of winning form in this except for Dyna Alivia.  She has to be put in the mix.  Book Of Shadows will be amongst them along with Webster and Koubek who will be flying home late.  Box up the inside five

(1.2.3.4.5)

Race 7 and Fire Tyson is in outstanding form and carved out a handy 29.99 win here last Thursday from box 3 so there is no reason why he can’t do it again.  The main dangers look to be Bogie Magic and Encosta Kahn, they all have drawn poorly but have class on their side.  Box up 1.4.5.6

The eighth and Bogie Prince is in the in-form kennel of Ben Rawlings and he led throughout to win from box 2 here last start in 29.86.  With a repeat performance we would see him win again. Victa Sam and Senni Tony will be charging home late.  Box up 1.2.3.5

Race 9 and this is a very good 600m affair.  Todd Kelly has Dream Choice in outstanding form and she has the perfect draw of box 1.  She will be the measuring stick once again.  Tercel hasn’t had a lot of luck of late but is more than capable of bouncing back.  They look the best quinella of the night.  Box up 1.4.7.8

The tenth and Right Time for the Butcher kennel can bounce back after a last start defeat.  He is very smart when on the bunny and the wide draw is a bonus.  Avatar Kist for Peter Hurley has the red and returned to the winners circle last week.  Is a must for the first three.  Box up 1.2.3.7

Let’s hope we are well in front by the last so we can have a little on Nigel Bale from box 1.  I like the inside brigade to run the trifecta so box 1.2.3.5.

Best Bet Race 2 Sidney’s Shadow (Box 6)

Best Eachway Race 6 Koubek (Box 3)

Best Roughie Race 3 Big Mick Dee (box8)

Best Trifecta Race 4 Box Up 4.5.6.7.

KENNEL CAPERS ONCE A MONTH

The monthly Kennel Capers for December has just been released so make sure you grab yourself a copy. Remember to keep up to date with weekly updates and media releases using the GRSA website at www.grsa.com.au. For up to the minute information provide GRSA with your mobile phone details for text message updates for all Industry news.

GREYHOUND OF THE MONTH – NOVEMBER

Greyhound of the Month for November was Bogie Magic for trainer Ben Rawlings mainly due to his exceptional performance in the Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup.

In a tight month of voting Bogie Magic secured enough votes just ahead of Token McLaren who also had an excellent month winning his only 4 starts.

Bogie Magic’s month started off in the second biggest open race on the SA calendar with the final of the $37,500 Gawler Gold Cup. He was impressive in his heat win however after coming up with box 4 in the final he was sent out at juicy eachway odds. Anyone who took a punt on Bogie Magic leading would have been ecstatic after the lids flew open and Bogie Magic was able to pounce on the early lead. From there he ran good time out in front and whilst chased hard by Kalden Kurageous he went on to record an emotional win for connections by 2½ lengths in a brilliant 30.92.

He had three other starts for the month with a win at Angle Park in a flying 29.92 and two other placings at headquarters improving the already impressive record of the El Galo/Bogie Gem sprinter.

At the end of the month Bogie Magic had won 22 races from 60 starts with 17 minor placings and prizemoney in excess of $85,000.

RUN OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER

The Run of the Month for November was the Tania Foster trained Token McLaren who made his much anticipated debut over the 731m last month winning three staying events including a brilliant performance on Thursday 21st November. In a handy FFA event he pounced on the early lead from box 6 and from there was never headed. He ran very fast splits to record a sizzling 42.89 in winning by over 15 lengths and become one of only a handful of greyhounds to break 43.00 seconds at Angle Park.

THE DOUG PAYNE NEXT THURSDAY

Next Thursday night will see the running of the Doug Payne Feature. The race is for SA Bred greyhounds and is graded on a “Best 8” basis; it is run over the 515m trip. Prizemoney for the race is a total of $6,875 and outside of the Futurity events, it is the main SA Bred event for the year.

*Nominations close next Monday 16th December with GRSA at 9.00am.

ICE VESTS AVAILABLE FROM GRSA

With the Hot Weather fast approaching having your own Ice Vest for your greyhound could give you that little edge on your rivals. They are available through the Chairman of Stewards Paul Marks for $100 each. Please contact Paul to place your order.

GROUP 1 RACING HEADS TO THE APPLE ISLE

The exciting Group 1 racing will continue in Tasmania this week with the running of the Hobart Thousand Heats tonight on the Hobart track. There are 6 fabulous heats with only the winner’s progressing through to next weeks $75,000 to the winner Group 1 final.

There is good representation from the Victorians again this year which includes Group 1 Melbourne Cup winner Black Opal Magic for Jason Thompson who looks very hard to beat in the fifth heat after drawing box 1. Jason also has the flying Ronan Izmir engaged who should also progress. The series also includes Paw Licking for Kel Greenough and Farmor Las Vegas for Rob Britton.

The sentimental favourite for the series will be the Tasmanian Rewind who hasn’t started since August when it looked like his stellar career was over. A winner of 55 races Rewind has returned to the track in heat 5 and will be hoping to qualify and then seek redemption for coming second in the past two finals behind Blackalls Boss last year and Dyna Tron the year before.

The first heat on the night is due to jump at 8.35pm (SA time) with the winners and two fastest second placegetters qualifying for next weeks final.

SEPARATE GRADING AT GAWLER TO START SHORTLY

Very shortly separate grading at Gawler will be implemented in December. We are just waiting on final testing before going “Live”. Gawler will be separated into two categories with Tuesday being separate grading to both Friday and Sunday. Greyhounds will keep the same grade that they currently have when Gawler is separated. GRSA will not change a greyhounds grade ie Grade 2 goes to Grade 5 for Friday. I will advise the confirmed date very shortly.

Please check out the latest kennel capers for updates from the Grading Review Panel held last month.

GAWLER TRACK TUNOVER ON DECEMBER 19

After the last attempt to turnover the Gawler track was postponed a few weeks ago due to rain the new date is now Thursday 19th December. This will mean that there will be NO trials on this day.

STRATHALBYN RACING

After an incident on the track at the last Strathalbyn meeting GRSA in conjunction with the club have installed about 90m of safety rail around the third turn. There will be no disruption to racing and trialling with the clubs next meeting scheduled for this weekend.

FIXED ODDS AT ANGLE PARK ON MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS

Tattsbet have begun offering a Fixed Odds market on ALL races at Angle Park on Monday night and Thursday night. This started a few weeks ago and the response has been excellent providing another betting option for our punters.

NO TRIALS AT ANGLE PARK XMAS EVE OR NEW YEARS EVE

With Christmas Eve and New Years Eve falling on a Tuesday night there will be No trials conducted at Angle Park. Due to staffing arrangements and an opportunity for most to spend time with their families the decision was made not to conduct trials on these nights.

ANGLE PARK ON BOXING DAY NOW IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE

After a request from GRV and approval from Sky Racing we have shifted out Thursday night meeting on December 26 (Boxing Day) from a night meeting to a twilight meeting. This has assisted GRV with their programming of feature Group races at Sandown and Sale on this night.

Race times at Angle Park will now be around 3.18pm to 6.27pm. GRSA will increase the Trainers Fee for this meeting by an extra $10 per trainer to assist our participants.

ELECTRONIC PAYMENTS OVER XMAS AND NEW YEAR

Trainers are reminded that the Trainers Fee on Public Holidays are paid into your bank account. This happens for all public holidays during the year so will also occur for December 26 and January 1st. Prizemoney payments are finalised after Monday nights meeting and normally paid into your account on Wednesdays however payments will be made one day earlier on the Tuesday before Xmas and the Tuesday before New Years Eve.

2014 ADELAIDE GREYHOUND AUCTION

The Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club (AGRC) in conjunction with GRSA, will once again conduct the Adelaide Greyhound Auction in 2014.

DATE: Sunday 12th October, 2014

More information will be provided over the coming months, including details of nominator/breeder bonuses and the race series attached to the auction.

ADELAIDE CUP TO RUN ON FRIDAY NIGHT IN 2014

As announced in the Sunday Mail last weekend the Group 1 Adelaide Cup in 2014 will be run on a Friday night for the first time in the races history. The opportunity came out of the blue, with Greyhound Racing Victoria first approaching GRSA about swapping our Thursday night on Boxing Day to allow the Group 1 Sale Cup, typically in a twilight timeslot, to be run in conjunction with the Sandown Park meeting at night.

As previously advertised we moved Boxing Day to a twilight meeting and requested a Friday night meeting from GRVIC in return. The chance to run our Group 1 on a Friday night was too good an opportunity for us pass up so next year the Adelaide Cup Final will be held on Friday, October 10, however we are still deciding the format of the series and whether to run the heats on the Thursday night, October 2, or Monday night, October 6.

We expect the move will allow more people to attend reaching a larger market and create a bigger atmosphere at Angle Park while also boosting turnover in the lucrative timeslot. We would also continue to work with other States in finding opportunities to improve the profile of racing in South Australia.
