MEDIA RELEASE – TONIGHTS ANGLE PARK PREVIEW

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

It looks an interesting night on the punt and for two weeks in a row there will be a couple of short priced favourites.  The highlight is the running of the Brian Johnstone Final which is race 8 on the programme.  It features the outstanding sprinter, Ernie Bung Arrow, who will be having his last start in SA before leaving to venture over to Victoria to have a crack at a couple of feature races.  Good luck to him and since he won’t have to travel from state to state every race it should enhance his chances in the upcoming events.

Race 1 and I like Webster who has dropped back in grade tonight and looks the big improver.  He can be hit and miss on box rise but should possie up and prove hard to beat.  Book Of Shadows and Fiery McBain will both be running on so box up 2.3.4.5.

The second and Sidney’s Shadow has stamped his authority with 4 wins from just 5 runs all in quick times.  He should bounce straight to the front and take a power of beating.  Set The Scene is the obvious danger and will be right in the mix.  Box up 3.4.6.7.

Race 3 and Wally Harkins is training in career best form and has a smart one in Who De Punk.  She has been carving out quick times of late and will be the one to catch.  Bob Bale is well drawn and can run into the placing’s.  Box up 1.3.7.8.

Onto the fourth and Bogie Prince has drawn well again and looks the likely leader from box 2, and should be able to hold the early lead to salute.  There will be heaps of them running on late so box up the inside four 1.2.3.4.

Race 5 and Springvale Cool for Gavin Harris has the perfect draw down in box 1.  She loves the rails and will be right on the pace.  Pandora Kist has pace and will try and cross from out wide and has a ton of ability.  Add in Noble Kahn for the minor money.  Box up 1.5.7.8.

Interesting race and winning form is good form.  The pacey Ritza Ben has been racing well over the short course and can nearly pinch this from box 1.  Kenso Karoo and Victa Victoria both can run into the trifecta.  Box up 1.2.3.8.

Race 7 and this appears a two  dog race in Dream Choice and Tercel.  They both have early pace and which one begins well will win for mine.  Victa Scott and Goods Odds Punk are well drawn.  Box up 1.4.7.8.

The eighth and this is the final of the night and we can’t tip against Ernie.  Kenny Gill has him in outstanding form and he should notch up his 16th win here and add another cup into the trophy cabinet.   Trifecta - 6 from 1.2.7. boxed.   Go Ernie!!!

Race 9 and another short priced favourite here in Token Mclaren, he has a perfect record of 3 from 3 over this trip and will lead and win easily.  Trifecta - 3 from 1.6.8. boxed.

The 10th and this is a very open affair and Ray Murray has a handy one in Stonebridge.  The draw of 5 is the biggest worry.  British Bomber is drawn well and has his paw on the till.  Box up 1.4.5.7.

The final event on a good night of racing and this is a tough race so let’s hope we are in front at this point.  The book ends in the 1 and 8 are the main chances for mine so let’s have a crack with 1.3.5.8.

Best Bet – Race 2 No 4 Sidney’s Shadow

Best each way – Race 10 No 4 Tyson Willow

Best Roughie – Race 6 No 6 Contrarian

Best Trifecta  - Race 1  -  2.3.4.5.

  LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

2013 BRIAN JOHNSTONE FINAL

Last week at Angle Park there were two terrific semi-finals of the Group 3 Brian Johnstone final where the first four placegetters from each semi-final qualified for tonight’s feature final. The fastest qualifier for the final was local superstar Ernie Bung Arrow trained by Ken Gill in the first semi-final who made it 15 wins from 17 starts when he led throughout to score a comfortable 5 length win in a slick 29.81. He has drawn box 6 in the final tonight and with his blistering early speed looks very hard to beat. He defeated his litter brother Woodnear who stuck on very well for second with As It Goes running home late for third.

The second semi-final was taken out by the Robyn Mackellar trained Emerley Zodiak  who worked his way to the front after avoiding interference on the first turn to race away from his rivals to win by 4½ lengths in a solid 30.15. He defeated both Tex Walker and Jack And Lolli who ran handy races.

Tonight’s Group 3 Brian Johnstone Final is for eligible SA Bred greyhounds whelped between July 2011 and December 2011. The $36,000 Final is race 8 on tonight’s program and is listed to jump at 9.11pm (SA time).

ADELAIDE CUP TO RUN ON FRIDAY NIGHT IN 2014

As announced in the Sunday Mail last weekend the Group 1 Adelaide Cup in 2014 will be run on a Friday night for the first time in the races history. The opportunity came out of the blue, with Greyhound Racing Victoria first approaching GRSA about swapping our Thursday night on Boxing Day to allow the Group 1 Sale Cup, typically in a twilight timeslot, to be run in conjunction with the Sandown Park meeting at night.

As previously advertised we moved Boxing Day to a twilight meeting and requested a Friday night meeting from GRVIC in return. The chance to run our Group 1 on a Friday night was too good an opportunity for us pass up so next year the Adelaide Cup Final will be held on Friday, October 10, however we are still deciding the format of the series and whether to run the heats on the Thursday night, October 2, or Monday night, October 6.

We expect the move will allow more people to attend reaching a larger market and create a bigger atmosphere at Angle Park while also boosting turnover in the lucrative timeslot. We would also continue to work with other States in finding opportunities to improve the profile of racing in South Australia.

STRATHALBYN QUALIFIYING TRIALS TOMORROW NIGHT

The monthly Strathalbyn qualifying trials will be held tomorrow night at the Southern Greyhound Raceway. The Strathalbyn nominations have been very good so if you have been struggling to get a run you may need to qualify. Strathalbyn’s next meeting is on Sunday 15th December. Nominations close at 9.00am on Tuesday 10th December.

NO TRACK TURNOVER AT GAWLER DUE TO WEATHER

The track turnover scheduled for this morning was postponed due to severe overnight rain. As not to affect Sunday’s meeting at Gawler the track will now be turned over on Thursday 19th December. This will mean that there will be NO trials on this day.

GROUP 1 BRISBANE CUP FINAL TONIGHT

The Group 1 Brisbane Cup Final tonights looks a fabulous race with all the big guns qualifying through the heats last week.

With $75,000 on offer to the winner the racing will be tight and tough.

Patrons on-course at Angle Park will be able to watch all the action as well as compare tote and bookmaker odds. Tattsbet will have fixed odds available on the series with a  First 4 Jackpot on the Final. The final is race 8 on tonights program due to start at 9.22pm (SA Time). My tip for the final is Tomac Bale from the stripe who should almost lead and will be hard to catch.

The Final field in Box Draw order is:

1.  Top Story                                S Hunt

2.  Tomac Bale                            M Delbridge

3.  Battistuzzi                               E Hancock

This month we are running at Angle Park in the Friday Day timeslot prior to Christmas. This was to align with Christmas Shows planned on these days however the response was limited on the first two dates so it should just be a normal crowd however on the 20th there is around 150 people booked in. We will revert back to our normal programmed meetings between Gawler and Mt Gambier after Xmas Day.

Angle Park dates are –

Friday 6th December

Friday 13th December

In March the Breeding Task Force will reconvene to discuss all things breeding. Like the GRP current members of these panels will be invited to attend to put their points of view across to hopefully improve these aspects of the Industry.

ANGLE PARK ON BOXING DAY NOW IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE

After a request from GRV and approval from Sky Racing we have shifted out Thursday night meeting on December 26 (Boxing Day) from a night meeting to a twilight meeting. This has assisted GRV with their programming of feature Group races at Sandown and Sale on this night.

Race times at Angle Park will now be around 3.18pm to 6.27pm. GRSA will look to increase the Trainers Fee for this meeting to assist our participants.

SEPARATE GRADING AT GAWLER TO START LATER THIS MONTH

With WA going Live onto Ozchase last weekend we will look to start work on the separate grading at Gawler to be implemented in later this month. Gawler will be separated into two categories with Tuesday being separate grading to both Friday and Sunday. Greyhounds will keep the same grade that they currently have when Gawler is separated. GRSA will not change a greyhounds grade ie Grade 2 goes to Grade 5 for Friday. Please be mindful of this when the implementation will begin. I will advise the confirmed date shortly.

BOOKMAKER PETER DAMARELL ONCOURSE EVERY WEDNESDAY AT ANGLE PARK

Bookmaker Peter Damarell will be on-course every Wednesday betting competitive fixed odd markets on the full programme at Angle Park. Peter will also display all bookmaker prices from the thoroughbred meetings in South Australia and the meetings in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This is a major bonus for oncourse patrons as there will now be no need to make the long drive to Gawler, Balaklava, Murray Bridge or Strathalbyn as the very same bookmakers prices will be available at Angle Park every Wednesday. Touch screens have also been installed at Angle Park to assist with race form every meeting.

Punters can enjoy the comfort of the Angle Park betting auditorium and it’s free to get in. No more hot or cold old betting rings after a long drive. Why not give it a try?

Please tell your thoroughbred friends about this outstanding opportunity. Save your entry fee and petrol and participate in the opportunity to win a free $50 betting voucher drawn on the day with Peter Damarell’s compliments.

BOOKING NUMBER FOR TRIALS

Participants who wish to book trials have to ring 8243 7172. This phone line will only be used for trial bookings and will queue participants.  By having this one number with participants queuing makes this process more efficient for booking trials.  There will be NO trials accepted through the normal administration number.  To be fair to everyone GRSA will only accept bookings using the new number.  Please make yourself aware of the new number for booking trials.

SA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP

Owners & Trainers are reminded of the domiciliary clause on the SA Sprint Championship coming up in January. (Nationals policy adopted)

The $4,265 heats are scheduled to be run on Thursday 9th January, with the Final to be run on Thursday 16th January. Total prizemoney for the listed final will be $22,000, with the winner’s share of $15,000.
