TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

With another strong 12 event programme here tonight at Murray Bridge I’m sure we can continue with our winning form and back a few more winners, there are several races that we should have a crack at with the First Four. Races 5,7 & 8 look to be wide open so we will unleash on them as always, all races are Trifecta and First Four.

Race 1 - We start the night with a Maiden and we will go with Ferocious Steve in box 5, he has been placed here at his past two and with his early pace he gets a chance to break through. Finniss Flash along with Spring Flora for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 2 - The Greg Board kennel look to hold the aces here with their two runners in Spring Harbour and Spring Agatha, both won on their debut over the short and look amongst the better chances in this. Scott Ryder has only had the two runs since crossing the border and has been well supported at both runs and is sure to be in the mix again. Milly May is drawn to have every chance. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 3 - The Rawlings kennel have a chance here with Spring Spirit down on the rails, he has the pace to kick up and should be right in the finish. Mr. Flip Flop should find this more to his liking and is amongst the better chances, add Little Genius has been placed in three of his past four. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 4 - Highly Praised was a last start winner at Gawler in good fashion and looks a chance of leading here, he is making his Murray Bridge debut.  Australasian Art has early pace and can run into the money. Exhilarating along with SaInt Sandy for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 5 - This certainly is a wide-open affair and the main chances look to be Allinga Grin who has pace, but her downfall is she doesn’t win enough, if she could lead it might be a different result. Aston Thunder is a smart type when on song, he certainly has the credentials to score. Rockstar Manners is making his SA debut here and was placed at Geelong last run over the 460. Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 6 - The Lauren Harris pair in Lektra Boogie and Lektra Hybrid both have been racing well since transferring to SA and should be right in the mix again in this. Occipital Eyes was backed off the map and won here last run and with moderate beginners on his inside he will be hard to beat again. Box Up 1.3.4.8

Race 7 - Springvale Slick has been showing pace in recent runs and gets a chance again in this from the draw. Sweet Antares will appreciate the inside draw and looks the improver. Undercut is more than capable if he comes out running, he is a strong type and will be right in the finish and looks a good each way bet in this. Box Up 2.3.6.8

Race 8 - Gary’s Miracle was a strong winner here Monday night from box 1, she loves this venue and will be very hard to beat if she can cross tonight. Classic McLaren like’s to track wide in his races but should be running on and a win wouldn’t be a surprise. Nockatunga and Rhyme Nor Reason are chances with clear running. Box Up 2.3.6.8

Race 9 - We see the all-conquering Fantastic Radley in this, he has been in outstanding form since arriving here in SA and has won his last five at this venue, he will be very short in the market and wins again. Tapestry Tears along with New Year Tears can fill the placings. 4 from 7.2.8

Race 10 - The Chegia kennel certainly has a love affair with this venue and they look a top chance again with Fantastic Shell, she has been very unlucky at her past two but can bounce back tonight. Porridge Box along with Bomb Proof can figure. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 11 - Raging Redline looks very hard to beat with the scratching on his inside he looks the leader and looks the measuring stick on recent form. Aston Clurey has good form and is well drawn along with Bailey Rocks who is the value runner. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 12 - With only the 6 runners here in the last Terrific Keith looks far too smart again, he should ping the lids and win. Buddy Guy is trained on the track and is the main danger. Saint Cany and Victa Caleb who is capable of surprising from the good draw. Box Up 1.4.7.8

PROV 1 PRIZEMONEY FOR MOUNT GAMBIER FROM JULY 1

It is confirmed that the increase to Provincial 1 will be from Mount Gambier’s Sunday meeting from 1st July, 2021 and will be the same breakdown as Gawler and Murray Bridge.

These meetings will be considered a Provincial 1 meeting for Grading and the grades that the greyhounds currently have for Provincial 2 will carry over to Provincial 1. This was the same process when Gawler split into Provincial 1 and Provincial 2 meetings a number of years ago.  Thursday meetings will remain Time Grading under the current format as it has proven to be quite successful over the years, however, the impact of these changes will be monitored by GRSA.

BORDER CHALLENGE (MT GAMBIER V WARNAMBOOL) SERIES POSTPONED TO AUGUST

After consultation with the Mt Gambier GRC and Warrnambool GRC the Border Challenge series between the two Clubs has been postponed.

The Mt Gambier series was to be run on the 20th and 27th June, however, due to ongoing SA and VIC border restrictions both Clubs felt it should be postponed to ensure the series viability. The Clubs are looking at reprogramming sometime in August.

CANCELLING TRIALS

If Trainers have booked trials for a session and decide not to come with all of their booked greyhounds, it would be appreciated if they could notify GRSA so amendments can be made.

If this is at short notice then there is not much that could be done, however, if trainers know their confirmed numbers during normal business hours then please advise GRSA.

GRADING UPDATES

GRADE 6 IN HIGHER GRADE MIDDLE DISTANCE & STAYERS EVENTS –  On occasions a Grade 6 dog will race in a 4/5, Open or FFA Middle Distance or Staying Event. If it wins this race they will lose their Grade 6 at the venue for the other distances. GRSA created a new mixed 4/5/6 which is available for Middle distance and Staying events. Middle and Staying Distance are classed as the 530m, 680m at Murray Bridge, 643m at Gawler and 595m and 730m at Angle Park (new). Trainers need to be clear on their nomination if they are a Grade 6 greyhound that they do not want to be in a mixed Middle or Staying event.

SA OWNED AND SA BRED RACES SELECTED ON ORDER OF PREFERENCE

GRSA program SA Bred and SA Owned Grade 5 and 6 events in the All Tracks calendar on occasions which have more money attached than normal. Trainers do not need to nominate for these events to be considered. Normally there is only one event and with that being the case the Grader will consider ALL eligible greyhounds for these events and select them based on the Order of Preference for the race. He will consider guarding guidelines but as these have more money attached he will select the “Best” dogs based on the Order of Preference. The remaining greyhounds will be considered for normal events. Again trainers can advise “No SA bred” and they can be considered for normal grading. This has been the policy for these types of programmed events for a number of years.

COMMENTS ON NOMINATIONS MARKED “ONLY”

A few years ago the Grading Review Panel agreed that some trainers were using the comments box to influence the grading of fields in particular Grade 5 Only for all their greyhounds. The panel previously resolved that “Only” would be disregarded over all distances and the grading left to the Grader. (Masters Only or Juvenile Only will be accepted as this is for a specific type of race)

If trainers put “Only or no start or leave me out” then the grader will grade as normal and if a greyhound would be graded into a mixed event based on race wins then he will leave them out based on the trainers request. The more information provided to the Grader allows for him to accommodate those requests.

WINNING GRADE 6 RACES IN ORDER

GRSA reminds trainers to win their grade 6 events in order at a specific venue.

For the venues that allow two Grade 6 wins trainers need to win a Grade 6 over one distance and then a Grade 6 over the other distance. If a greyhound wins a Grade 6 and then a Grade 5 then they will lose their Grade 6 over the other distance at that venue.

RE-GRADING FOR ALL TRACKS AND DISTANCES

Re grading will occur for all tracks and distances for Grade 3 or higher greyhounds.

A trainer can apply for a re grade after two unsuccessful nominations over the corresponding distance. If having met this criteria the responsibility is on the trainer to apply for a re grade prior to the close of nominations. Only one distance will be considered for a re-grade per meeting.
