TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

Tonight, here at Murray Bridge we have a strong 11 event programme with the highlight being two heats of the 2021 State Sprint Championship, races 6 and 7 on the card both heats are full fields and look wide open so it will make for a very interesting Final here next Thursday. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events so let’s hope we can back a few winners here tonight.

Race 1 - We start the night with a 680m and Fantastic Radley smashed his own track record here last week when running 38.35, winning by over 12L, he wins again but will be unbackable. Littermates New Year Tears and Tapestry Tears fill the minors. 1 from 5.3.7 for a $1

Race 2 - Mallee Dreamer has shown pace at her past two runs here and gets her chance to win her maiden, she has the pace to lead here. Lita Warrior has been well travelled in her 8 runs and was placed at Gawler last week over the 400m, she can pinch a place along with Stocky Brocky. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 3 - Finniss Eagle gets his chance here tonight, he has found trouble at his past couple but from the rails draw is amongst the better hopes. Crown Suzie won from this draw at the Mount three runs back and is a player, add Milly May for the minor. 1.2.4.6

Race 4 - Woodside Zulu is a favourite of mine he gives you heart failure in the run but will be rattling home over the top of them. Line Seeker was a last start winner here over the 530m and is drawn to give this a shake, add Bailey Rocks who has a good turn of early speed. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 5 - Aston Ability was a good effort when winning at Gawler last run coming from behind, she hasn’t missed a cheque in her last five and will be hard to beat again. Toby West is another who has been in fine form but the wide draw is the only worry. Hot Spartan and Yenderra Evie is our value runner. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 6 - This is the first of the Sprint Championship heats and we will stick with Fantastic Shell, she hasn’t had a huge amount of luck here in recent starts but can win tonight. Rushes is a class act on his night and is right in the mix. Footrot Fernando along with Rhyme Nor Reason for the First Four. Box up 2.3.5.6

Race 7 - The 2nd of the heats and we will go with Danyo’s Charlie, he continues to show early pace and looks a big chance of leading again and is our top pick. Goose Steps will be running on along with Maximum Refusal who has the gun draw. Box Up 1.3.4.7

Race 8 - Victa Buzz has been in terrific form winning her last three here all from wide boxes, she is down on the rails here and should lead them a merry dance and score. Aston Thunder has been in the placings at his last four here and Gawler, he can be hit and miss on lid rise but his form has been solid. Weblec Blade along with Fantastic Victor for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 9 - Victa Maggie can win here tonight, she was a very good run here last start when she led and was run down tonight, she can hold on. Weblec Fury won here Monday night in good fashion and is right in the mix again. Bluestar Panther can pinch a place. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 10 - We are going to stick with Victa runners in Victa Haydn, he was a massive run when winning at Gawler last start in quick time and is drawn to win again. Highly Praised has been in the money in four of his last five and looks a place chance again. Finniss Flash is a place hope. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 11 - This is the last on the programme and I have tipped the Rasmussen kennel to win the last four all with their VICTA runners, Victa Reid can win the last as he is all class and is drawn to win. Aston Peso is the danger, add the Gavin Harris Zinfandel Oompa who has ability. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Best Bets

Go all up all the Victa runner here tonight in the last four races.

This will allow for a few more sessions for trialling with the first session scheduled for this coming Wednesday night 11th August at headquarters. There will be a full trial schedule available as we return to racing at Angle Park in the coming days.

GAWLER CLASSIC 2021 THIS MONTH

The first series for the SA bred greyhounds which are paid up for Classic 2021 will be the Gawler Classic over 400m (short course).  It is a special event and no penalties apply.

The Heats will be held on Tuesday, 17th August for $1,600 with the Final on Tuesday, 24th August for $3,300.

• Nominations for the Heats close at 9am on Thursday, 12th August

GRADING OF ANGLE PARK NEW DISTANCES

With Angle Park having new distances for racing it is likely they will be considered as if they are on a new track which will mean that for the 342m, 530m, 595m and 730m all dogs will start as new.

Effectively meaning they will be Maidens, Grade 6’s or Grade 5’s. GRSA has been working with OzChase how to best manage this with this decision part of the Agenda for the upcoming Grading Review Panel meeting now on Monday, 16th August.

GRADING REVIEW PANEL MEETING ON MONDAY 16th AUGUST

The next GRP meeting will now be held on Monday, 16th August at the offices of GRSA with an Agenda to be sent out to the panel in the coming week.

With the meeting being held shortly if any members of the industry would like to put forward an Agenda item please send to [email protected]  by Monday, 9th August.

BORDER CHALLENGE (MT GAMBIER V WARNAMBOOL) SERIES POSTPONED TO LATER THIS YEAR

After consultation with the Mt Gambier GRC and Warrnambool GRC the Border Challenge series between the two Clubs has been postponed again.

The Mt Gambier series was to be run on the 22nd and 29th August, however, due to ongoing SA and VIC border restrictions both Clubs felt it should be postponed to ensure the series viability. The Clubs are looking at reprogramming for later in the year.

The Conditions for the series are:

Maximum of 2 Heats. If 1 Heat first 4 through, if 2 Heats first two through to $5,800 Final over 512m at Mt Gambier.

Trainer must have had starters at 15 Mount Gambier meetings in the past 12 months.

Trainer must have trained the greyhound nominated for the previous 3 months.

Greyhound must have started at least four times in the past 12 months at Tara Raceway.

MOUNT GAMBIER CROSS BORDER BUBBLE AT 70KM

We advise that the SA Government now have a 70km cross border bubble so only those trainers from Victoria with that exemption will have nominations accepted for upcoming Mt Gambier meetings however these directions do change regulary.

GRSA would be hopeful this changes in the coming week to allow more of our Victorian friends across to support the South East venue. In the meantime the Club have been very appreciative of the support from the local trainers and those from Metro Adelaide ensuring none of their meetings have lost.

PROV 1 PRIZEMONEY FOR MOUNT GAMBIER

As from the 1st July, 2021 Provincial 1 prizemoney will be paid for the Mount Gambier Sunday meetings and will be the same breakdown as Gawler and Murray Bridge.

These meetings will be considered a Provincial 1 meeting for Grading and the grades that the greyhounds currently have for Provincial 2 will carry over to Provincial 1 at the greyhounds first start at Provincial 1. This was the same process when Gawler split into Provincial 1 and Provincial 2 meetings a number of years ago.  Thursday meetings will remain Time Grading under the current format as it has proven to be quite successful over the years, however, the impact of these changes will be monitored by GRSA.

The club will also look to program (0-2 win) 600m races on Time Graded Thursday meetings and gage the response from trainers.

NOMINATION DAYS TO CHANGE FOR MT GAMBIER SUNDAY AND THE METRO SATURDAY MORNING MEETINGS FROM AUGUST

After consultation with the Mt Gambier GRC, Member Clubs and Industry Consultative Group, GRSA has approved the change for the Mt Gambier Sunday meetings to now be graded on the Tuesday with nominations closing at 9am on that morning.

This will assist the Club to provide the Sunday fields into the local paper which is important for persons in the South East to have this available.

As a result the Saturday morning metro meeting will now move to Wednesday, with nominations closing at 9am on that morning. This will give an even spread of no more than two meetings to be graded on any given day (except public holiday requirements).  This will be effective from the 1st August.
