TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

We have a solid 10 event programme here at Murray Bridge tonight over the four distances, the highlight is race 4 over the 680m we see the clash between Sir Truculent and Fantastic Radley, both have been in terrific form and it is one not to miss. I hope you followed last week as we had a handy night on the punt and let’s hope we can continue again tonight.

Race 1 - We start the night with a Maiden and the runners to follow are the newcomer Miss Jinx in the Gavin Harris kennel she should go very well 1st up. Mallee Dreamer who is working towards a win and Select Magic who has been runner up at his last three if we box these, we should go very close. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 2 - John Gale certainly has Stars Aligned going very well, she has won 3 of her 4 starts since transferring to SA and handled this draw here last week when charging home to score, we will put her on top in this. Burn the Box along with the pacey Mr. Flip Flop are the dangers.  Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 3 - This event is over the 395m and I like the pacey Ferocious Steve out in box 7, he is in the Ben Rawlings kennel and has been racing well and should prove hard to beat. Highly Praised is well drawn and if we add She’s a Hotshot along with Bluestar Panther for the First Four. Box up 1.2.5.7

Race 4 - How good is this event over the 680m we see the CLASH of the champ Sir Truculent who won a Group 1 two runs back in Brisbane and the very smart youngster Fantastic Radley who has 7 wins from his 8 starts here at this venue, both are class acts so it’s a race you can’t miss. Who can win, well I will sit on the fence as they both deserve to and its great for SA racing. 1.3.5.7. for a $ 1

Race 5 - Vontae Mack gets the nod in this, he has been racing well over this trip with 2 wins on the trot, he is normally very strong and will take beating. Terrific Keith has been in outstanding form who has won his last 7, he steps up to the 530m tonight which could be the query. Danyo’s Charlie is another who is out over more ground and he has the perfect draw. Box Up 1.6.7.8

Race 6 - The Rasmussen kennel rarely goes home without a winner and they have Goose Steps in terrific form, he charged late here last start to run 2nd he can be hit and miss on lid rise but has the draw to break through. George The First can handle the wide draw, add Aussie Swiper and Sebon Panther for the minors. Box Up 1.3.4.8

Race 7 - Gary’s Miracle is drawn for a forward showing here, she loves this venue and will find this easier than her last start 5th, she has the pace to lead and win. Sevilla has won two of her last four at Gawler she is another with early pace and can finish in the placings. Hot Spartan along with Jacks Knight for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 8 - Fantastic Shell is a flying machine when able to lead, she nearly crossed them last start in a smart field and is the one to catch in this tonight. Power Burner will be running on strongly and is our value runner from down on the fence. Rockstar Manners and Victa Buzz for the minors. Box Up 1.5.6.7

Race 9 - Snakebite Me should ping straight to the front in this, he was a last start winner at Gawler and has won here in the past in good time. Nockatunga can carve out good times with clear running and is amongst the better chances of running into the money. Sweet Antares is nicely drawn. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 10 - The final event of the night and we will go with Basman who won at Gawler last start he has only had the 7 starts for 2 wins and 2 placings and looks to have a handy future we will make him our top selection. Maximum Jenny has pace and looks the danger. Zinfandel Oompa is drawn to run a cheeky race. Box up 1.2.4.7

LOCAL NEWS

VALE - KAYE BURNS

GRSA was saddened to hear the news that Kaye Burns had passed away on Tuesday.

Kaye was Secretary of Strathalbyn in the early to late 80’s and Secretary at the old Murray Bridge Club from late 90’s until the club folded to make way for the new one.

She loved her dogs and supported Ron with all his training feats and she was a friend to many in the industry over the years since they both started in 1975.

Her daughter Lisa Rasmussen will provide details of the funeral as they are known which GRSA will post.

2021 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CANCELLED – SA SPRINT SERIES HEATS NEXT THURSDAY AT MURRAY BRIDGE – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY

The GCA National Championships to be held at the Meadows in Victoria have been cancelled due to COVID restrictions around travel which is extremely unfortunate.

However GRSA and the other States will continue with their series to final the local champion. The State series’ for SA will be held  at Murray Bridge on Thursday, 5th August for the Sprint Heats over 530m with the State Final of the Sprint and a one-off Final over 680m of the Distance on the 12th August.

In an effort to support these series’ all States will be conducting their Finals on the same night to be run within a two hour period and showcased through Sky Racing.

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the nomination closing date to be eligible to represent SA, which going back is on Wednesday, 19th May, 2021. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

• Nominations this year will close at the normal time with GRSA which will be at 9am Monday, 2nd August

GRSA have been advised from NSW that the winner of the SA series of the Nationals over the Spring at Murray Bridge will be given a spot in the semifinals of the Million Dollar Chase if connections with to go.

MURRAY BRIDGE TO RACE ON SATURDAY 7TH AUGUST – NOMINATIONS CLOSE NEXT WEDNESDAY

Whilst we are in the final weeks of the Angle Park redevelopment being completed Saturday Morning, 7th August will have to be conducted at Murray Bridge Straight track as the Gawler Oval has football commitments on this day.

Saturday mornings are crucial to our sustained race program so it is important to have these meetings supported. Whilst it is an early start GRSA will program this meeting with increased prizemoney to support those trainers.

The meeting will be normal grading for Prov 2, however, will have Prov 1 prizemoney. There will be -

·         $1,525 Heats Mixed 345– 300m ($1,855 Final Wednesday 18/8/21)

·         $1,255 Heats Daish Irrigation & Fodder Maiden – 300m ($1,430 Final Wednesday 18/8/21. $100 voucher provided by Daish to winning connections for final)

• Nominations close Wednesday, 4th August at 9.00am.

MOUNT GAMBIER CROSS BORDER BUBBLE

We advise that the SA Government have not relaxed the 40km cross border bubble so only those trainers from Victoria with that exemption will have nominations accepted for upcoming Mt Gambier meetings.

GRSA would be hopeful this changes in the coming week to allow more of our Victorian friends across to support the South East venue. In the meantime the Club have been very appreciative of the support from the local trainers and those from Metro Adelaide ensuring none of their meetings have lost.

PROV 1 PRIZEMONEY FOR MOUNT GAMBIER

As from the 1st July, 2021 Provincial 1 prizemoney will be paid for the Mount Gambier Sunday meetings and will be the same breakdown as Gawler and Murray Bridge.

These meetings will be considered a Provincial 1 meeting for Grading and the grades that the greyhounds currently have for Provincial 2 will carry over to Provincial 1 at the greyhounds first start at Provincial 1. This was the same process when Gawler split into Provincial 1 and Provincial 2 meetings a number of years ago.  Thursday meetings will remain Time Grading under the current format as it has proven to be quite successful over the years, however, the impact of these changes will be monitored by GRSA.

The club will also look to program (0-2 win) 600m races on Time Graded Thursday meetings and gage the response from trainers.

NOMINATION DAYS TO CHANGE FOR MT GAMBIER SUNDAY AND THE METRO SATURDAY MORNING MEETINGS FROM AUGUST

After consultation with the Mt Gambier GRC, Member Clubs and Industry Consultative Group, GRSA has approved the change for the Mt Gambier Sunday meetings to now be graded on the Tuesday with nominations closing at 9am on that morning.

This will assist the Club to provide the Sunday fields into the local paper which is important for persons in the South East to have this available.

As a result the Saturday morning metro meeting will now move to Wednesday, with nominations closing at 9am on that morning. This will give an even spread of no more than two meetings to be graded on any given day (except public holiday requirements).  This will be effective from the 1st August.
