Racing News

TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

It certainly is an interesting night of racing, we have a smart event over the 530m, race 8 on the card that looks to have a heap of chances. in the past Shadow Mist would be a short price favourite but not tonight as he has some very smart opposition. We have two heats of the 2021 Bayroad Queen Stayers Cup over the 680m which are races 3 and 4 and we see the return of Sir Truculent, as usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - Harboring was a good effort here last week when running 2nd,, she has the pace to lead and can break through tonight. Victa Oreo was a close-up 4th here last run and looks a big chance again. Add Outback Rebel for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 2 - This is a wide-open affair and we will stick with Harbor Blues who won here last week from this draw in good fashion, he can be hit and miss at times on lid rise but is very smart when on song. Foresaken is drawn to run a cheeky race from down on the rails. Another Storm and Zipping Bates are in fine form and must be respected. Box up 1.2.4.8

Race 3 - This is the 1st heat of the Stayer’s Cup and Miss Takiri has been placed here at both her runs, she can break through if she is able to lead. Tapestry Tears started a short price favourite last start and finished 3rd here in good time, she is the danger. Add Shadow Burner and Bedrock Fred who is capable of showing up at handy odds. Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 4 - The 2nd heat of the Stayer’s Cup and how good is this event, we have Oakvale Impact who was a last winner here in good fashion over this trip and we see the return of Sir Truculent who is resuming. Springvale Anna is another who goes well at this venue and can’t be left out. Box Up 1.3.4.5

Race 5 - Time Striker has been knocking on the door with two 2nds in as many runs, he will be running on strongly and looks one of the better chances. Allinga Grin is our value bet, she led a very good field here last week only to be run down if she is able to find the early lead again she might be able to pinch this. Add Cash Storm for the minors. Box Up 2.4.5.6

Race 6 - Terrific Keith looks one of the best bets of the night, he has struck form with two strong wins here in recent runs and should lead and win again. Weblec Rebel can improve from the good draw and Reservation is making his SA debut and must be kept safe. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 7 - Allinga Road has been racing in top form of late he won three on the trot here then was placed behind Another Storm, he handles a wide draw and looks one of the better chances again. Plumber led them a merry dance when a short price favourite here last week and is drawn to have every chance again. Beatific has early pace and can’t be overlooked in a very open affair. Box up 1.2.6.7

Race 8 - This is the main event of the night and we will look for a bit of value as is a toughie to pick the winner, we will go with the well-drawn Defy down in box 1, if he can be close enough early he will take a power of beating but he can be hit and miss on lid rise. Diorite Fire jumped straight to the front here last week at big odds and won in quick time, he has a good strike rate and is right in the mix once again. Shadow Mist has been struggling of late but at his best is a top class sprinter and would win. Add Gary’s Miracle for the minors. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 9 - The Bec Romyn trained Meet Joe Black loves the Murray Bridge circuit, he has won three from as many starts here over this trip and looks the one to beat again tonight. Safe Drop keeps on running into him and can figure in the placings once again along with Jezza Bence. Box up 2.4.5.7

Race 10 - Max Dynamo showed early dash and went on to score here last start from box 6 at handy odds, he has the pace to lead again and is drawn for a bold showing in this. Danyo’s Wylie has a tremendous record here and has won his last 5 all in good fashion, he will certainly start the punters elect and will be another who will be hard to toss. Spring Vinnie and Lily Pad both are a must for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 11 - Jabari has early pace and is more than capable when out in front. Renewed and Sierra Moon for the minors. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 12 - We went home on a winner last week and can do the same again tonight with Blister down in box 1, he is well drawn and can kick up and stay out of trouble. The dangers are Yenderra Evie and Power Stone. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Best Bets

Race 6, No: 2 - Terrific Keith

GRADING OF CITY A MEETINGS WHEN ANGLE PARK SHUTDOWN –

When Angle Park is redeveloped in mid April the below outcomes have been listed below -

  • When Angle Park is shutdown for redevelopment that the City A meetings will be shared with Murray Bridge and Gawler. Murray Bridge will conduct back to back Thursday meetings allowing for Heats and Finals of normal and feature races. Gawler will then run back to back Sundays again allowing for Heats and Finals of normal and feature races. This will mean that there is one Metropolitan (CITY A) meeting per week.
  • Feature 515m races will be run at Gawler over the 531m and any 731m feature races will be run at Murray Bridge over the 680m (the 680m start will be available as the 731m boxes will be removed from Angle Park once redevelopment starts allowing for that distance to be available)
  • There will be a 680m CITY A prizemoney at Murray Bridge each Thursday every week whether City A or Prov 1 to support these stayers during this period.
  • These meetings will be considered as if the greyhounds have never raced at the venue. This will mean greyhounds will be grades Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 to start with unless new into the state and regraded higher.
  • With all grades starting from new (no higher than Grade 5 effectively) there will not be as higher prizemoney races per meeting initially with no high grade races being conducted. There will be a Best 8 each meeting over the 455m, 530m, 680m at Murray Bridge and a 531m and 643m at Gawler for this high grade money. (GRSA will just make up these races). Trainers need to write “No Best 8” on the nomination if they do not want to be in this event. If there are insufficient nominations for a Best 8 the Grader will make up normally graded events based on current policy.
  • The Racing Department intends to run Grade 5 heats on a regular basis but may have to run Grade 4/5 heats to ensure there are races for these dogs. The finals of these races will pay the normal stakemoney for Finals (Grade 5 or Open depending on grade of Heats).
  • The Grader will give preference to 455m or higher at both Murray Bridge City A and Gawler City A meetings with the intent that no short course races will be conducted. However if there was a need to run some short course this would be under “standby conditions.
  •  When a greyhound wins a Grade 5 or above over any distance at the Gawler City A and Murray Bridge City A meetings they will NOT lose any grade 6’s at other venues. The normal rule has been suspended.
  • If a greyhound has already won a Grade 6 (City A) it should be eligible for MB CITY A and GAW CITY A Grade 6 if they have more Grade’s to win as these are considered different tracks. They will still only be able to win one CITY A at each of these meetings if they do not win more races than allowed.
  • There will be NO retrospectivity for Grading when the shutdown of Angle Park occurs.

“BEAT THE GRADER” DURING REDEVELOPMENT

Our normal race schedule generally doesn’t allow for any “Beat the Grader “scenario’s however with the changes to  both Murray Bride Prov 1 and Gawler Prov 1 this is likely to happen which is an added benefit to owners and trainers.

It will be available for the Murray Bridge Monday Prov 1 to Murray Bridge Thursday Prov 1 and then the Murray Bridge Thursday Prov 1 to Murray Bridge Monday Prov 1.

For Gawler the Friday Prov 1 to Sunday Prov 1 could happen however there is only a few days between meetings.

Please contact the Grader for clarification around the “Beat The Grader” policy.
