TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

We are back on and lets all hope we can pick a winner or two tonight here at Murray Bridge, we have another 12-event programme and there look to be a couple of good things throughout the evening. As always, all races are First Four and Trifecta betting.

Race 1 - We kick start with a Maiden and it’s a wide-open affair, Finniss Flash has been knocking on the door with his four placings here, he is very close to breaking through so we will put him on top. Mallee Dreamer was a handy effort 1st up and has the nice draw. Criminal just needs to step better to run into the placings. Box up 1.2.4.8

Race 2 - The Greg Board team have been racing well and they look a big chance with Spring Flora down in box 1, she was a last start winner here in 25.59 and should have the early pace to lead and win. Break Time has good Gawler form and is a chance here on his debut, add Girl On Fire along with Sandave Vision. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 3 - Exhilarating had good support here last run and didn’t let the punters down when scoring; he has the pace to lead again and looks the measuring stick in this. Victa Maggie recent racing have been at Gawler and she continues to show early pace which will enhance her chances in this. Stars Aligned should start the punters elect and is the main danger. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 4 - Victa Buzz pinged the lids here last start from this draw and held on to score, he should be able to do the same here again tonight. Bailey Rocks has been racing well and will find this a lot easier than her last run and she will be right in the finish. Lana Roads and Saint Candy for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 5 - The Lauren Harris team could have a handy night and they look a big chance with Rhyme Nor Reason on his recent form, he won from this draw two runs back and is our top pick in this. Max Amigo and Springvale Slick for the minors. Box Up 1.6.7.8

Race 6 - Danyo’s Charlie was a huge run when 2nd behind Terrific Keith here last week and was beaten just under a length, he looks a good thing on that effort. Woodside Zulu will be running on, as normal he like to get wide but is strong. Rockstar Manners has won both his starts since crossing the border and looks a chance again. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 7 - Spring Vinnie has been racing well, he has won three of his last four here and is a major player from the inside draw. Fantastic Shell is all class, if she can lead they won’t beat her, the only worry is a heap of pace either side. Gary’s Miracle along with Meet Joe Black for the minors. Box up 2.4.6.7

Race 8 - This certainly is a wide-open affair and it’s very hard to find the winner. Toby West has the form and the good draw, he can be hit and miss early but loves box 1, will be hard to beat. Both New Year Tears and Tapestry Tears are back in distance and are very strong, either can salute. Hots Rocks has pace and is a chance of pinching this with early luck. Box up 1.2.3.8

Race 9 - Another wide-open affair with a heap of chances, Footrot Fernando has won three of his last four, he has early pace and looks the likely pacesetter. Rogue Planet handles a wide draw and will be running on, add Vontae Mack and Power Stone who are our value runners. Box Up 3.5.6.7

Race 10 - Ferocious Steve is my top pick here, he was a handy 2nd from this draw last week and is yet to miss a cheque here in his four runs. Mr. Flip Flop was a last start winner up the straight and should go well again from the draw. Mallee Magic was a smart winner here last run and looks to have a bright future. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 11 - Let’s hope we are in front coming to the last two races this is anyone’s, but we will have a crack at Ackles down in box 1, he normally goes well at this venue and is well drawn. Naja Naja is a strong type, the Rawlings kennel have several chances tonight and this one is capable of showing up. Crush Your Enemy is a speedy type and will be right in the market. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 12 - Gemtree Maximus has the pace to lead and win here, he can handle the wide draw and can hopefully send us home on a winning note. Two Hands George will be running on and is another who can lead. Black Baccara can add some value to the trifecta. Box Up 2.4.7.8

LOCAL NEWS

NATIONAL STRAIGHT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP POSTPONED - HOWEVER SA SERIES TO BE RUN

Racing Queensland has advised that the 2021 TAB National Straight Track Championship (NSTC) has been postponed.

State qualifiers for the series were due to commence this week with the final of the NSTC to be conducted at Capalaba on 15 August 2021. However, RQ, GRV, GRNSW, and GRSA, have determined that the series cannot proceed on the scheduled dates due to the current impact of COVID-19 which is preventing or significantly hindering participation in the event.

All participating states remain committed to the NSTC being conducted within the 2021 calendar year.

New dates for state qualifiers and the NSTC Final at Capalaba will be announced as soon as possible.

Participating states may elect to conduct a replacement event on the original dates of the NSTC, but these events will not be connected to qualification in the postponed NSTC Final.

South Australia will still conduct the SA Straight Track Championship heats on Wednesday 28th July with the $5,000 Final on Wednesday 4th August under the same domiciliary conditions in support of SA participants as advertised. This will not be linked to the Nationals in QLD with that series postponed to later in the year where we will have local heats and finals.

• Nominations for the SA Straight Track Championship Heats close with GRSA at 9am Tomorrow, Friday 23rd July

CHAMPION PUPPY MOVED TO AUGUST AND CONDUCTED AT GAWLER

The Champion Puppy series for greyhounds whelped on or after 1st July, 2019 will be conducted in August.

This series is normally conducted in July, however, with changes to feature events it has been moved to August with the Heats on Sunday, 1st August and the Final on Sunday, 8th August. GRSA has committed to running this series in this timeslot and with Angle Park not being ready at this time the series will be run at Gawler and will coincide with the City A meetings.

The Heats will be worth $5,150 with the Final now worth $14,275.

• Nominations for the Heats close with GRSA at 9am on Wednesday, 28th July

MURRAY BRIDGE TO RACE ON SATURDAY 7TH AUGUST

Whilst we are in the final weeks of the Angle Park redevelopment being completed Saturday Morning, 7th August will have to be conducted at Murray Bridge Straight track as the Gawler Oval has football commitments on this day.

Saturday mornings are crucial to our sustained race program so it is important to have these meetings supported. Whilst it is an early start GRSA will program this meeting with increased prizemoney to support those trainers.

The meeting will be normal grading for Prov 2, however, will have Prov 1 prizemoney. There will be -

·         $1,525 Heats Mixed 345– 300m ($1,855 Final Wednesday 18/8/21)

·         $1,255 Heats Daish Irrigation & Fodder Maiden – 300m ($1,430 Final Wednesday 18/8/21. $100 voucher provided by Daish to winning connections for final)

• Nominations close Wednesday, 4th August at 9.00am.

2021 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN VICTORIA (hopefully!) – SA SPRINT HEATS OVER 530M

The GCA National Championships are just around the corner.

The National Finals this year will be held at the Meadows in Victoria and will be conducted on Saturday, 28th August. There should be a confirmed answer on this early next week. Unfortunately the other associated conferences and dinners with the Nationals week have already been cancelled due to the travelling of dignitaries from across the country.

Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.

The State series’ for SA will be held regardless at Murray Bridge on Thursday, 5th August for the Sprint Heats over 530m with the State Final of the Sprint and a one-off Final over 680m of the Distance on the 12th August.

These events have to be run on the same night at the one venue to meet National requirements.  In an effort to support these series’ all States will be conducting their Finals on the same night to be run within a two hour period.

• Nominations this year will close at the normal time with GRSA which will be at 9am Monday, 2nd August

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the nomination closing date to be eligible to represent SA, which going back is on Wednesday, 19th May, 2021. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

PROV 1 PRIZEMONEY FOR MOUNT GAMBIER

As from the 1st July, 2021 Provincial 1 prizemoney will be paid for the Mount Gambier Sunday meetings and will be the same breakdown as Gawler and Murray Bridge.

These meetings will be considered a Provincial 1 meeting for Grading and the grades that the greyhounds currently have for Provincial 2 will carry over to Provincial 1 at the greyhounds first start at Provincial 1. This was the same process when Gawler split into Provincial 1 and Provincial 2 meetings a number of years ago.  Thursday meetings will remain Time Grading under the current format as it has proven to be quite successful over the years, however, the impact of these changes will be monitored by GRSA.

The club will also look to program (0-2 win) 600m races on Time Graded Thursday meetings and gage the response from trainers.

NOMINATION DAYS TO CHANGE FOR MT GAMBIER SUNDAY AND THE METRO SATURDAY MORNING MEETINGS FROM AUGUST

After consultation with the Mt Gambier GRC, Member Clubs and Industry Consultative Group, GRSA has approved the change for the Mt Gambier Sunday meetings to now be graded on the Tuesday with nominations closing at 9am on that morning.

This will assist the Club to provide the Sunday fields into the local paper which is important for persons in the South East to have this available.

As a result the Saturday morning metro meeting will now move to Wednesday, with nominations closing at 9am on that morning. This will give an even spread of no more than two meetings to be graded on any given day (except public holiday requirements).  This will be effective from the 1st August.
