TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

This is the final meeting here at Murray Bridge for Thursday night racing as we head back to town and tackle the new Angle Park circuit so we need to back a few winners here tonight. I must say how good the racing has been here over recent months and we have seen the track record fall over several distances. There are highlights a plenty here tonight on the strong 12 event programme and none better than race 4 over the 680m where we see Fantastic Radley from box 1, he has been unbeatable at this distance with 10 wins and should win again tonight.

Race 1 - Danyo’s Charlie can bounce back here tonight, he can lead from the good draw and has been in fine form, he looks the one to beat. Gary’s Miracle has a good turn of early speed, she hasn’t been that far away of late and is the danger. Add Cold Esky and Forte Nero for the minors. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 2 - This is a Maiden and we will go with the  ex-Victorian Adele’s Entity, she has been placed in two of her five starts and trialled well here over the 395m. Harrison is nicely drawn and looks a place chance. Born A Star is in the Ken Gill kennel and must be kept safe as does Buzz Along. Box up 1.2.4.7

Race 3 - Victa Haydn hasn’t had a huge amount of luck here in recent runs, he is a smart performer when on song and is amongst the better chances. George The First is better than his past two suggest and can run quick time when on the lure. Goose Steps will be running on along with Don’t Tell Lies. Box Up 2.3.5.7

Race 4 - This is over the 680m and we see the all-conquering Fantastic Radley line up here going for his 11th  win, he loves this trip and distance and is drawn for a bold showing once again but will be at skinny odds. Sir Truculent can run into the placings again but he has failed to handle the track here at the Bridge. Add Bedrock Fred who was a good 1st up run here last week after his interstate campaign.  1.5.3.7 for $1

Race 5 - What a race this is, its certainly worth having a crack at the First Four as there are several chances. Aston Hayato has a good turn of early pace if he can lead from the awkward draw he will be very hard to beat. Spring Vinnie has won three of his last five and can carve out quick times. Zipping Sultan can certainly add some value and he has been racing well over the short. Golden Night is a class act and won last years Adelaide Cup. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 6 - Time Striker has returned to form winning his last three here and Gawler, he has the pace to kick up from the draw and is our top pick. Came And Went hasn’t missed a cheque in his last five and has won here in the past. Plumber and our value runner Hot Spartan for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 7 - There is pace a plenty in this event and it will be high flying to the first turn, we will go with the well-drawn Terrific Keith, he drops back in distance here and will be very hard to beat. Victa Buzz is the form runner winning her last five all at this venue, she is quick early and is the danger. Gemtree Maximus is another who is quick early and will be trying to cross from box 6. Woodside Zulu will be beaten for early pace but will be running on over the top of them. Box up 1.3.6.8

Race 8 - The Dave Peckham kennel has certainly notched up a few winners here at the Bridge in recent months and he has another chance here with Aston Olenna, he has won three of his last five here and can handle the wide draw. Victa Reid flew late to beat Zinfandel Oompa here last week and both look chances again from their draws. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 9 - The Bec Romyn kennel have a big chance in this with Two Jabs, he has only had the 4 career starts for 3 wins and a 3rd here all up the straight, he looks very promising and is our top pick. Coorong Dasher was a last start winner here and is amongst the better chances. Add Iranian Girl for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 10 - Coorong Cash ran on strongly to score here last week from a wide draw, he has handy box manners and can cross a score again in this. Burn The Box has been in the money at his last five he is another who has early burn and will be right in the finish. Frodo Baggins is handy and can run into the minors. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 11 - Stars Aligned found early trouble at Gawler last run, she has won two of three here and should be very hard to beat. Its Smudgy has been racing well at Mount Gambier as has the reserve Cash Storm both are in form and can play a roll in this. Box Up 1.2.4.9

Race 12 - It would be nice to go home on a winner and its certainly a toughie with several chances, I like Lektra Boogie but he can be hit and miss on lid rise his best would have him winning. Go Go Dolly is well drawn, she can be right in the finish from the good draw. Shim Cam and Hiring for the First Four. Box up 1.2.4.7

Race 1 No: 1 - Danyo’s Charlie

ANGLE PARK START UP PLAN – TRIALLING AND RACING

Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) provides the following return to racing at Angle Park schedule, that will see our first race meeting on the new track conducted on Thursday night 26th August.

The schedule below incorporates an expanded trialling schedule, which hopefully provides all participants with sufficient opportunities to trial their greyhounds in a lead up to racing.

GRSA wishes to emphasise that the Angle Park venue still has a number of works elements in progress (separate to the race track), which will result in restricted access to different parts of the complex. GRSA asks for a degree of understanding from our participants as we look to have all remaining elements completed for the meeting on Thursday 26th August.

Angle Park trial sessions are listed below, with the Murray Bridge and Gawler sessions remaining as per the current schedule unless advised otherwise-

  • APK TRIAL SESSION - Friday 20th August – Trials (Morning) @ 8am start
  • APK PICNIC AND TRIAL SESSION - Sunday 22nd August –(Morning) @ 9am START FOR PICNIC MEETING. Trials conducted after which need to be booked. (Murray Bridge morning trials will be cancelled on this day)
  • APK TRIAL SESSION - Wednesday 25th August – Trials (Night) @ 6pm start (there will be no trials at Gawler on this night – all STAT trials for Gawler will be done on the Thursday morning)
  • APK FIRST RACE MEETING - Thursday 26th August – RACE MEETING (NIGHT)
  • Apk Saturday 27th August – Trials (Morning) @ 7am
  • Apk Monday 29th August – RACE MEETING (NIGHT)
  • Apk Tuesday 30th  August – Trials (Night) @ 6pm
  • Apk Thursday 1st September – RACE MEETING (NIGHT)

When Angle Park returns to racing on Thursday 26th August the trial schedule will revert to  –

  • Angle Park Tuesday night and Saturday/Sunday morning (depending on racing)
  • Gawler Monday morning and Friday morning (STAT)
  • Murray Bridge Wednesday night one turn, Monday morning on both tracks and Thursday on straight track. These sessions will be monitored depending on their support. STAT will be done on Wednesday nights for the one turn while the STAT for the Straight track will be done at race meetings where possible (less than 12 races). As we move towards daylight saving in October consideration will be to have STAT for the Straight track available on Wednesday nights.

No reference has been made to Mt Gambier on this schedule as this does not affect their racing or trialling

GAWLER CLASSIC 2021 FINAL ON TUESDAY

The first series for the SA bred greyhounds which are paid up for Classic 2021 kicked off at Gawler on Tuesday with two Heats of the Gawler Classic over 400m (short course) with heat winners being Zinfandel Nikki (23.06) and Turbo Raider (23.07). The $3,300 Final will be race 8 on Tuesday.

MOUNT GAMBIER CROSS BORDER BUBBLE AT 70KM

We advise that the SA Government now have a 70km cross border bubble so only those trainers from Victoria with that exemption will have nominations accepted for upcoming Mt Gambier meetings however these directions do change regularly.

GRSA would be hopeful this changes in the coming week to allow more of our Victorian friends across to support the South East venue. In the meantime the Club have been very appreciative of the support from the local trainers and those from Metro Adelaide ensuring none of their meetings have lost.

KINGS AND QUEENS FEATURE – HEATS NEXT THURSDAY

Again this year GRSA will conduct the Kings and Queens Feature series with Heats on Thursday, 26th August and a $7,500 Final on Thursday, 2nd September

The eligibility for this series is for dogs and bitches whelped between 1st March 2019 and 31st May 2019.

Performed Maidens are eligible (raced or qualy trialled).

It will be dependent upon nominations, however, we would like to run a dogs Heat and a bitches Heat separately with greyhounds qualifying into the Final. If there are not sufficient nominations for either sex then these Heats may be mixed as a one off Heat into a Final or a couple of mixed Heats. Special conditions apply, however, these races will be non-penalty.

• Nominations close Monday, 23rd August at 9.00am with GRSA.

GAWLER SHOW CANCELLED THIS MONTH - GAWLER TO RACE BACK ON SUNDAY

GRSA have been advised that the Gawler Show on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th August has now been cancelled and moved to November.

GRSA had made some changes to accommodate their access of the venue however with no Gawler Show in August the schedule will revert back to normal with Gawler on the Sunday night and Murray Bridge on the Friday.

The Date changes are listed below -

Delete: Gawler – Friday 27th August 2021  (TAB) Twilight
Add: Murray Bridge– Friday 27th August 2021  (TAB) Twilight

Delete: Murray Bridge – Sunday 29th August 2021  (TAB) Night
Add: Gawler – Sunday 29th August 2021  (TAB) Night

***This will mean that Murray Bridge Straight track will trial on Thursday morning 26th August with Gawler trialling on Friday morning 27th August.

TAB MATCH RACE CHALLENGE – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS

South Australia will again conduct the annual Match Race Challenge next month, held on Thursday 23rd September during the rich Adelaide Cup Carnival.

Previously conducted as a State of Origin Series between SA and Victorian greyhounds, current Covid-19 restrictions have again forced a rethink for the event 2021, which was temporarily changed to an SA trained event last year for the same reasons.

After liaising with GRV and noting the current border restrictions that are likely to remain in place for some time, the linking of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup with Victorian events (Group 1 Topgun and Group 2 Shootout) will not occur in 2021.

To ensure that Angle Park TAB Match Race Challenge attracts the best greyhounds possible, GRSA has altered the conditions of the series to be “SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS”. It will be a similar format to the previous State of Origin concept, however the four (4) SA greyhounds will take on the four (4) best nominated greyhounds from anywhere in Australia.

This will provide another exciting dimension in what has proven to be a very successful format. With Covid-19 restrictions and border closures in place across Australia, opening up the series to all states (including Victoria) ensures the series will be conducted with a high-quality field.

Despite the removal of links to key Victorian races, GRSA will still guarantee the winner of the TAB Match Race Challenge direct entry into the $100,000 to-the-winner Group 1 Adelaide Cup final on Friday 8th October (bypassing the Adelaide Cup heats).

Nominations close at 9am on Monday, 20th September with GRSA.

Conditions of the TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS:

The TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS, between South Australia and the All-Stars from the rest of Australia, will be held at the new Angle Park track on Thursday 23rd September.

Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or All-Stars will be based around the National Championships domiciliary clause. Greyhounds need to be trained in the state they wish to represent for 76 days out of the last 150 days prior to the date of the race (23rd September).

The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from SA will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “SA’s Best”. The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from Interstate will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “the All-Stars”.

The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds including liaising with other State bodies as required. The SA Grader’s decision will be final.

Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared, with one (1) from SA and one (1) from Interstate (dependant on nominations), which will replace the SA or All-Stars representative as required. For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.

The Grader will rate the four (4) greyhounds from SA and the four (4) from Interstate in order from 1 to 4, with No.1 being the highest rated greyhound from each group. The head-to-head matches will be decided by the two No.1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.

Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect the seeding of greyhounds from 1 to 4, with the No.1 rated greyhound’s racing for the most prizemoney in the head-to-head races. However, the overall winner of the race will still be determined on actual race times run by each greyhound (to three decimal places).

PRIZEMONEY:

Prizemoney for each pairing:

·         1 v 1 – Winner $4,750, Runner Up $500

·         2 v 2 – Winner $4,500, Runner Up $500

·         3 v 3 – Winner $4,250, Runner Up $500

·         4 v 4 – Winner $4,000, Runner Up $500

Prizemoney for the overall placings for TAB Match Race Challenge (based on overall times):

·         1st – $7,500

·         2nd – $2,500

·         3rd – $1,000

This year, with various borders closures impacting travel to SA and some states in lockdown, GRSA has determined that we be guided by SA Government advice for travel from each state.

If trainers from certain states can freely enter SA, GRSA will accept their nomination without further investigation. If trainers from states in lockdown or are subject to travel restrictions from entering SA, GRSA will accept their nomination only if they have approval from GRSA Stewards regarding:

1.       Where the greyhound will be kennelled in SA

2.       Who will have authority for the greyhound whilst in SA

3.       Evidence that the greyhound is travelling to SA by an approved freight company

Upon GRSA Stewards approval, these greyhounds can remain in the Interstate trainer’s name whilst they compete in SA feature events. This will be subject to review and change dependent on updated SA Government advice.
