TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Tonight we have four quality heats of the Coffex Coffee SA Oaks and the big guns have crossed the border to tackle this event.

Race 1 and the book ends look the main chances, Joja Stan and Kalden Kapone.   I’m leaning more to the latter as he has early pace and has two  sub 30 second runs beside his name.  Both will give this a big shake.  Add in Remember Cestria for the trifecta, box up 1-3-7-8.

On to the first heat of the Oaks and there are several smart types in this.  Guru Doll has a slick 29.66 win next to her name at Sandown two runs back.  From the red she should be very hard to beat. Jeff Galea has Karise’s Voice racing well but the visitor’s draw of 5 is the worry.  Add in Iona Seven for Rob Britton and they are the main chances.  Box Up 1-2-3-5.

Race 3 and this event is a highlight on the card with Ali The Great from box 1 and Hopes Up who represented us in Melbourne in the National Sprint Final from box 2.  Both have early pace but I will tip the Cameron Butcher trained Hopes Up to lead and win.  Encosta Kahn is another who is racing well.  Add in the Andrea Dailly Hawk Alone and they look the top 4.  Box up 1-2-3-4.

Another heat of the Oaks is race 4 and this looks a very open affair.  Black Veil has a good draw down in box 2.  She will be hard to beat if she can hold the fence early as her recent from has been over the 600m at the Meadows.  Purcell Bale for the Bate kennel has a picket fence form beside her name and has been well travelled.  Suntory Gold was a winner at Sandown last start in 29.87 and has only had a handful of starts.  Box Up 2-5-6-7.

Race 5 and this is a very open affair aswell.  Benchmark has his paw on the till and is boxed to give this a big shake.  Koubek will be rattling home late and is capable of running on over top of them and if Significant Bit can find her best she has to be included.  Box up 2-3-6-8.

Heat 3 of the Oaks and the well performed Heidi Go Seek has had 34 starts for 12 wins and 10 placing’s and a smart 29.52 win at Sandown beside her name.  The draw is the worry but she is a class act.  She’s Our Chloe is better than her past couple suggest and the change of venue will help.  Add in local hopes Blue Viper and Wonder Whirl for the minors.  Box Up 1-4-6-7.

Flying Tee has the pace to lead and win again in race 7.  Trained by Oswald Chegia at Aldinga he has him FLYING.  There are a heap of chances that will be running on.  Box up 2-3-6-7. Don’t forget Tercel who is well drawn out in box 8 and is more than capable of winning.

The final heat of the Oaks is race 8 and the Graeme Bate runner in Xylia Allen has the form on the board with a last start win in the Group 1 National Sprint final in fast time.  She has pace and looks the one to catch.  Dyna Beth loves a wide draw and will be right in the mix.  There are a heap of others to fill the placing’s and bar two can fill the top 3.  Box Up 4-5-6-7.

Race 9 is the FFA over the 700m and there isn’t a lot to get excited about.  We know something has to win so box up 1-2-6-8.

In race 10 Carlos Tyson won from this draw in a quick 29.96 in similar company 4 starts back and he looks very hard to beat again. Paua Is Lethal is on the improve along with Miss Avocet who has good early pace.  Box Up 2-3-5-8.

Race 11, jump on Galilee Spirit to send us home on a winning note.  He is well drawn here and can jump straight to the front and win.  Osbourne Bale is an interesting runner who won at Sandown two runs back in 29.99 and will be right in this.  Kalden Gambino is another new comer from WA and is in the powerful Troy Murray kennel who has won 5 from 11 along with 5 placing’s.  This race is a ripper and appears a terrific betting race.

Good Luck on a fantastic programme.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

COFFEX COFFEE OAKS HEATS

Spring racing really heats up tonight with four heats of the Coffex Coffee Oaks with some of the best young female chasers in the country competing to make it through to the Group 3 final next week.

Last year the series was dominated by the locals with 26 of the 41 greyhounds competing. This year the interstate raiders have got the ascendency with 19 of the 34 including Group 1 National Sprint Champion Xylia Allen for master trainer Graeme Bate who looks very hard to beat in the series. SA will be hoping that the likes of Wiregrass, Fair Change, Wonder Whirl or Victa Brooke can give SA back to back victories after Hope’s Up for Cameron Butcher won the Oaks last year.

The first two from each heat will qualify for next weeks final with the two fastest third placegetters declared reserves. We will conduct the box draw on track tonight after the running of race nine.

Next Thursday night’s Coffex Coffee Oaks Final carries a total purse of $35,000, with the winner to receive $25,000 in the Group Three event.

CHASING THE GOLDEN BONE TIPPING COMPETITION

It’s a tight competition at the top in the Chasing The Golden Bone competition. Tonight is week three of four weeks so if someone can tip the 11 winners tonight it will go a long way to securing the prize. The reward at the end for the winning team is a greyhound to race for 12 months on their behalf. GRSA is very excited and happy to announce that Robyn Mackellar will be the winning teams trainer and that through her extensive efforts we have been able to secure a greyhound that should give the winners plenty of enjoyment.

Good luck and good tipping for the next few weeks.

OZCHASE UPDATE

We have been advised that Western Australia will be coming onto Ozchase on the 7th October with Queensland going live in November.

As I have already said once all states are on we should see some real progression in the system to help benefit participants, punters and administrators.

One item we have been able to fix last week was in our Form Guides/Race Book which was the winning margin for a greyhound. A greyhound that had won an event you could not tell how much it had won by because the margin came up as 0.00 but now that has been fixed so if it won by a head or by 10 it will be displayed.

PORT AUGUST ON SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER

The next Port Augusta Greyhound meeting will be held on Saturday, 14th September at Chinnery Park with nominations closing with GRSA at 9.00am on Tuesday 10th September.  This meeting sees the running of the Tassie Tavern Oaks and Derby. Greyhounds will come from all over the state and Broken Hill to compete in these two races, but have to be whelped on or after the 1st July 2011 to qualify. The public is invited to attend this meeting which starts at 1.00pm.

Our last meeting saw popular Balaklava trainer Kelly Stott complete a double with the bookends of the programme. Rocket Surgery won its maiden, while Ava Leefull won its third race in four starts at Chinnery Park in a grade five race.

It was pleasing to see Michael Stewart win the mixed four/five event with Grape Picker. Three other runners from that kennel will be greatly improved next time on the grass track. Gary Pidgeon from Owen won with brilliant beginner Tricky Yoko. This dog has its own group of supporters in Port Augusta. Gran’s Goon trained by David Daly of Clare, won its first race up north. Graham Luland from Port Pirie had a welcome return to winning with Cobar Tar saluting after a six month spell.

BOOKMAKER PETER DAMARELL BACK ON WEDNESDAYS FROM SEPTEMBER 18

As from Wednesday 18th September 2013, Bookmaker Peter Damarell will be the on-course bookmaker betting competitive fixed odd markets on the full programme at Angle Park. These meetings are now covered on Sky Racing 1 providing extra exposure to the Industry. In addition GRSA has organised for Peter to display all bookmaker prices from the thoroughbred meetings in South Australia and the meetings in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This is a major coup for GRSA  and South Australian punters as there will now be no need to make the long drive to Gawler, Balaklava, Murray Bridge or Strathalbyn as the very same bookmakers prices will be available right here at Angle Park every Wednesday. Punters can enjoy the comfort of the Angle Park betting auditorium and it’s free to get in. No more hot or cold old betting rings after a long drive. Why not give it a try? Please tell your thoroughbred friends about this outstanding opportunity. Save your entry fee and petrol and participate in the opportunity to win a free $50 betting voucher with Peter Damarell’s compliments.

EARLY START/LATE FINISH FOR GAWLER ON FRIDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER

The meeting at Gawler on Friday 20th September will start earlier than normal at 12.11pm and will finish at 2.59pm for their 10 race program. GRSA has been given the approval from Sky Racing to do this to assist the Gawler Centrals Football Club who has been granted the Barossa and Light Grand Final on the Saturday. By finishing earlier our co tenants will have enough time to set up after our meeting leading into the big day.

Please take note of the kennel times on this day as they will be slightly earlier than normal.

MAIDENS FOR MONDAY NIGHT

Recently we have had to extend Monday night nominations at Angle Park regularly so we will now start programming Open Maiden events at Angle Park on Monday night over the 515m on the nights we do not have the monthly Maiden final. These races are now updated in the current All Tracks calendars.
