TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

What a program we have tonight highlighted by three excellent Semi Finals of the Howard Ashton.  I reckon I find you a couple winners tonight at good value especially early which will give us a nice little bank for Miata at Sandown later in the night!!!!

Race 1 and the Ossie Chegia trained sprinter in Laurie Lachlan looks the leader here and should prove hard to run down. He has been a little disappointing recently however with a clean beginning he should kick our night off at great eachway value.  The main dangers look to be Aston Carmelita and Alessi Bale with Eva’s Flame not without a home after finding form in lesser company recently.

One of the best bets of the night comes up in Race 2 with the Karen Bearpark trained Contrarian drawn to win out of the red. He is not quick out but he is very strong at the end so expect him to rail hard and zoom past his rivals over the concluding stages.  There are several chances for the minors but I like the kennel mate Zippered for second with From The Top, Tyson Willow and Allen Hanz to add value for third.

Race 3 and the Shaun Matcott trained Aleta Allen deserves a change of luck and box 1 could just be that. She has run 4 seconds in her last 5 starts and from the pole she looks the top pick. It’s a field job for the minors with all other seven a chance to fill a place. I like Ikari Pedro, Grainne O’Malley and Five Star Knocka.

Race 4 looks another terrific race over the middle distance of 600m. The star of the staying ranks Abdon Bale for Lisa Rasmussen should break back into the winners list. He has drawn box 7 which will suit and showed he was ready to win with a nice second last start. The speedy Proven Polka and Dyna Daina should be up near the front and could hang on for the minors with Totally Tango for the First 4 .

Race 5 and another best bet here with the Troy Murray trained Emerley Lover looking very hard to beat. He should begin well in the first semi final of the Howard Ashton and expect him to be leading down the back and from there it will be daylight. Pandora Kist and Yabby Creek for the minors and risk Cosmic Way, he’s quality but box 6 is a worry.

Race 6 and put all the winnings from Emerley Lover onto the best sprinter in the State in Fire Tyson. The Tony Lagana trained flyer should lead from the 1 box and run time out in front. He’ll be short but he’ll win. High Status and Nicholas Jack for the minor money.

Race 7 is the third semi final of the Howard Ashton and looks the toughest one on paper. Exciting chaser Token McLaren will start favourite but I reckon he’s a risk from box 6 in a quality field. He’ll get home hard but might have too much to do. I like the Ossie Chegia trained Flying Tee who impressed with his first up second to Fire Tyson in the heats. I reckon he can race on the pace and hang on for a good victory. Victa Brooke for second and Avid Tyson to hang on for third with Token McLaren an unlucky fourth.

Race 8 and another best bet in the Bosco Stamenkovic trained Koombooyana Girl. You might get eachway odds about her which would be unbelieveable. I cant see her missing a place and if she leads she will win. The strong Tercel and Young Snozz for the minors.

Race 9 is very open so there should be some good value here. I like Jet Blast for the powerful Troy Murray kennel. He was a good winner last start and if he can be close enough early he should run home too strongly. The dangers are Wonder Whirl and Russian Red.

Senni Tony looks a special in Race 10 with 1, 5 & 8 for the minors and the final event is a raffle. I used the dart board and came up with 1, 5 and 7.

Happy Punting !!!

JOKE OF THE WEEK

Three criminals are sentenced to exile in the desert and can only bring one personal item.
"I brought a loaf of bread, so when I get hungry, I'll have something to eat," said the first criminal.
"I brought a water skin, so that when I get thirsty, I'll have something to drink," said the second.
The third criminal looks proud of himself. "I brought a car door, so when it gets hot, I can roll down the window."

VALE – DON BARTLE

GRSA was saddened to hear of the passing of Don Bartle last Friday after a battle with illness. Don was a long time worker for GRSA in the kennel house at Angle Park and Gawler over the years and was a valued employee and friend to many in the greyhound racing industry. Sincere condolences to Don’s family at this time. As a mark of respect for Don’s contribution black armbands will be worn for tonight’s Angle Park meeting.

HOWARD ASHTON SEMI FINALS

There are three outstanding semi finals tonight for the Group 3 Howard Ashton after 7 heats were run last Wednesday at Angle Park.

Heat winners from last week were –

Fire Tyson- 29.78

Victa Brooke – 29.85

Emerley Lover – 29.89

Cosmic Way – 29.99

Token McLaren – 30.03

Nicholas Jack – 30.03

Victa Scott – 30.14

With plenty of form in each semi final an upset result could be on the cards if some of the favourites are not on their game tonight as each greyhound looks to qualify for next week’s Final.

As there are three Semi-Finals the first two from each semi final and the two fastest third placegetters will qualify for next weeks final. The box draw will take place on track tonight, following race 8.

The 2013 Howard Ashton Final is a Group 3 event, with total prizemoney of $36,000. It is the main race series of Breeders 2013.

Breeders 2013 has one further series to follow the Howard Ashton. That will be Gawler Breeders 2013 to be run on the 11th June and 18th June.

* Nominations close tomorrow (Friday 24th May). This was moved to Friday to accommodate the Howard Ashton semi finals tonight as they are eligible for the Future Stars.

SHANE MCQUEEN HEATS

The Shane McQueen Heats will be run next week. The feature series kicks off on Thursday 30th May and it is open to the Best greyhounds nominated over 600m.

* Nominations for the Heats close on Monday 27th May with GRSA at 9.00am.

MIATA’S FAREWELL TONIGHT AT SANDOWN

The mighty greyhound from the West “Miata” will have her final start tonight in the Group 1 Sandown Cup.
