MEDIA RELEASE – TONIGHTS ANGLE PARK PREVIEW

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

It looks to be an interesting night for the punters tonight at SA greyhound racing headquarters.  We should be able to kick it off with a couple of winners and yes my joke of the week is back by popular demand!!!!

Race 1 and the Paul Barry sprinter in Prank Call showed his usual early pace last week but faded badly to run 5th behind Totally Tango.  He can bounce back tonight and should be much improved by the run 7days ago.  The main dangers look to be Aleta Allen and Morabito who can add some value for the trifecta.

In the second Karen Bearpark has a couple of handy types in her kennel including  Zippered who began well from box 4 last week but was gobbled up in the run to the 1st turn and had to be content with a 4th behind Senni Tony.  He can bounce straight to the front here and break through.  There are several chances for the minors and I like Sky Kahn and Big Time, who have both been around the mark of late.

Race 3 and the Kath Johnstone trained Encosta Kahn looks the one here.  Jaws would have dropped when he was last out of the lids last week.  He is a lot better beginner than that and he should bounce back with a win despite the poor draw.  Wave Jockey, Azz Always and add in Lagoon Lovin who is hit and miss for the pick 4.

Race 4 and Well Quoted for Carole Scott has been threatening but without delivering since returning to SA.  The Cosmic Rumble sprinter continues to be hit and miss on box rise but has a very slow beginner on his inside so should get a better start. Ruby Kahn along with Allen Hanz can fill the top 3.

Race 5 and Springvale Cool struggled from a wide draw last start, but the draw of 1 is a big bonus and looks very hard to beat.  The Petar Jovanovic chaser Russian Fighter, is drawn to run a very cheeky race.  Put in Spiral Bound and Miss Avocet who should be rattling home and we won’t miss the trifecta.

How good is the 600m event tonight!  Race 6 on the programme and there looks to be two leaders in Fair Change and Dyna Daina.  Cousin Callum along with Abdon Bale and Young Snozz will be rattling home.  Box the lot up and any of these can salute but I will put my neck out and tip Dyna Daina for Shaun Matcott who can carve across from box 8.

Race 7 looks a very even affair but Chris Cotton has a very handy type in Wonder Whirl.  She has a personal best of 29.67 over this distance and from box 7 will be very hard to beat.

There are a heap of chances for the minors in Aston Odin for the powerful Troy Murray Kennel and Ritza Ben for Matty Payne.

Kalden Mischief made short work of them last week when a sensational BON 29.69 winner last week.  How could you tip against him on that run.  Gold Vee is well drawn down in box 1 and appears the main danger, Alessi Bale is no slouch but the draw of 4 is a worry.

The last events all look open affairs, Race 9 box up 3/4/7/8, Race 10 in box order 1/2/3/4 and the final event 4/5/6/7.

Happy Punting !!!

JOKE OF THE WEEK

A preacher was walking down the street when he notices a little boy trying to ring the doorbell but it's just out of his reach. He watches his efforts for some time and walks over to press the bell. After he pressed it he leveled down to the boy and asked' "Now what?" to which the boy turned and shouted, "NOW WE RUN!!"

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

HOWARD ASHTON HEATS

Yesterday (Wednesday) saw the running of 7 heats of the 2013 Howard Ashton. This event is open to SA Bred greyhounds eligible for Breeders 2013 and it was great to see strong numbers for the Group 3 series.

As there were 7 heats, we will be running three Semi-Finals next Thursday night. Heat winners were –

Fire Tyson- 29.78

Victa Brooke – 29.85

Emerley Lover – 29.89

Cosmic Way – 29.99

Token McLaren – 30.03

Nicholas Jack – 30.03

Victa Scott – 30.14

Breeders 2013 has one further series to follow the Howard Ashton. That will be Gawler Breeders 2013 to be run on the 11th June and 18th June.

SOMETIMES SPEEDY CHASING SECOND GROUP 1

Tonights racing at Sandown is one for the purist with two big Group Finals and superstars of the track on show in Miata and Glen Gallon however a South Australian owned and bred greyhound will be looking to push her name up in lights again with a win in the Group 1 Sapphire Classic. Sometimes Speedy has drawn box 8 in the final to be run at 9.25pm (SA time) and with her brilliant early speed she could easily find the front and prove hard to run down.

She has already done the SA breeding stocks proud by winning the National Futurity earlier in the year and her local owners will be hoping that their NSW trainer Jason Mackay can produce the winner for them. Jason also trains race favorite Punch One Out who has drawn the red however Sometimes Speedy has had the wood on her rival previously and will be hoping for a similar result.

MACKELLAR LOOKING TO SHINE IN THE WEST

The inform Robyn Mackellar kennel will be in Perth on Saturday night with two of her exciting chasers, Just Shine and Dee Dee Corsair engaged in the heats of the Group 2 WA Derby at Cannington. Both greyhounds have been in super form locally with Just Shine the kennel star winning 6 of his last 8 starts and claiming the last two greyhound of the month awards. Both greyhounds trialed at Cannington last Saturday in preparation for the heats and surprisingly never really fired with Just Shine running 31.15 for the 530m journey and Dee Dee Corsair 31.24. Times between 30.50 and 31.00 are normally believed to be good enough to be competative at Cannington so both will have to be greatly improved by their first look at the track last week. Just Shine is engaged in Race 5 and has drawn box 8 in the second heat of the Derby due to jump at 10.03pm (SA time) while Dee Dee Corsair fared a little better drawing box 3 in race 7 due to jump at 10.42pm (SA time). We wish Robyn and the connections the best of luck with the South Aussie greyhounds.
