MEDIA RELEASE – TONIGHTS ANGLE PARK PREVIEW

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

It looks to be an interesting night for punters tonight at Angle Park.

We should all kick off on a winning note with the Oswald Chegia trained Laurie Lachlan in race 1.  Despite his poor draw of box 4 the Elite State /Size Em Up sprinter has a heap of early tow and should be able to bounce back from his last start 2nd here.  This dog can run when on song and has carved out a 29.88 win here earlier in the year.  The main dangers look to be the Petar Jovanovic trained Lucerne Lass who is in outstanding form.

The 2nd event appears very open and for mine all the eight runners could pinch this.  This event is definitely one to have a mystery bet on.  Venture down the card and there is a terrific 600m event in race 5 on the card.  Just Shine would be the most improved chaser here in South Australia at the moment.  He was right in the mix in last weeks Anniversary Cup final when 3rd behind Cintiarna and has won 3 of his last 4 prior to the final, all from wide draws.  The 600m distance won’t be a worry as he is very strong and has a personal best of 35.10 earlier last month.  The other chances for trifecta punters look to be the well performed Deville down in box 1 along with Victa Victoria.

The best on the programme for mine has to be in race 7 and that is the Paul Barry trained Prank Call.  The Big Daddy Cool chaser showed a ton of pace here last week but found the going a little too tough. Tonight he is back to an easier event and can bounce straight to the lead and win from his draw of two.  The main dangers look to be Ritza Ben for Matty Payne and the Troy Murray trained Smokey Assassin who has been working through the grades.

Race 8 tonight sees Young Snozz draw the red.  He failed to beat a runner home here in the final last week, but can be the improver from this favourable draw.  The veteran of 69 starts is in his twilight years but is more than capable.  Add the last start winner Rocket To Excel and the in-form Grainne O’Malley and we shouldn’t miss the trifecta.

It’s great to see another distance race on the programme, but for mine it looks a race in two

with Cousin Callum and Miss Woods.  Both gallopers have different racing styles but the Petar Jovanovic trained chaser should collect the bickies in an even affair.  The trifecta could be any ones in this event, but definitely put in Book Of Shadows.  However I think the dividend will be a skinny one.

Race 10 looks to be an outstanding event on the card with the Robyn Mackellar trained Geek Freak.  She managed to find a heap of trouble here last start but was in fine form prior, both here and at Gawler both in quick times.  The Bombastic Shiraz /Osti’s Delight chaser has a wealth of talent and a heap of early pace, she can bounce back into the winner’s circle.

FEATURES AROUND THE NATION

GROUP 2 BOGIE LEIGH FUTURITY FINAL AND DERBY HEATS AT ALBION PARK TONIGHT

Feature racing heads to the Sunshine State tonight with the running of the Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity at Albion Park. There were four exciting heats conducted last week with master Victorian trainer Graeme Bate claiming two of the heats with the exciting Xylia Allen who ran a sensational 29.98 along with handy sprinter Purcell Bale. Xylia Allen whilst drawn 5 in tonights final she looks very hard to beat and has already tasted Group success after brilliantly winning the Launceston Cup back in February at Group 2 level. TattsBet have offered a huge $20,000 Trifecta Jackpot on tonights final.

Bate also has a strong hand in tonights five heats of the Group 2 Queensland Derby muzzling up three runners, Nico Bale, Noble Bale and Schroder Bale all with great chances of qualifying. New South Welshman Mark Azzopardi probably holds the key to the series with two of his exciting chasers Jagger Swagger and Transcend Time looking hardest to beat. Jagger Swagger won the Group 1 National Derby back in February and most recently won a heat of the rich Golden Easter Egg before finishing down the track in the semi finals after starting a short priced favourite. Transcend Time has been at the top level for quite some time including a sensational win in  the Group 2 Bob Payne Sprint back in September and most recently made the Group 2 Maitland Cup Final after winning his heat.

MURRAY HEADS WEST YET AGAIN

Leading local trainer Troy Murray has never been afraid to travel with his greyhounds for feature races and on Saturday night he heads west to Cannington with two of his star chasers, Kalden Kurageous and Kalden Mayhem.

Kalden Kurageous fresh from his terrific second placing in last weeks Group 3 Anniversary Cup behind superstar Victorian Cintiarna, has drawn box 4 in the first heat of the Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial which is race 5 on the programme. Kalden Kurageous has raced on the Cannington track previously running two thirds recently during Februarys Perth Cup carnival. He looks a top chance of qualifying with only the three heats with his main danger appearing to be Merlot Monelli who has drawn the 7 box.

Champion South Australian Kalden Mayhem has been drawn into race 4 on the programme over the middle distance of the 642m and looks very hard to beat. He almost loves the Cannington circuit as much as the Angle Park track as he has qualified for many Group races in the west. He should have taken no ill effects from the recent Distance Championship at headquarters and whilst the line up looks reasonably strong his class should prevail.
