With the damage to the equipment at the Gawler track as reported in The Bunyip, the normal Gawler Tuesday meeting was transferred to Angle Park.

In the Kingsford Hotel Stake over 515m, Dodger I Am was justifiably sent out a short price favourite after having 10 starts at Angle Park for 9 wins and a second. However Dodger I Am (6) was slow away and in an endeavour to make up lost ground, was involved in some interference on the first turn, falling along with Mahlo Storm (7), with fortunately both greyhounds pulling up OK.

In the meantime, Onus On Me (8) did nothing wrong and had jumped to the front as the lids went up, crossing over in front of Velocity Sapphire (2) and Chilli In White (1). Down the back stretch, Onus On Me was able to open up a 3 length break, over Velocity Sapphire.

In the home straight, Onus On Me was in no danger of losing, although Storm Allen (4) charged home after being last in the early stages. Storm Allen finished nearly 2 lengths away in second place for Wendy Matcott of Murray Bridge, while Velocity Sapphire ran third for Kim Johnstone of Two Wells.

Onus On Me is trained at Lewiston by Bob Isaacson for Betty Molloy. Betty was pretty thrilled with the win, and said that after “Jake” got to the front, anything was possible. The onus was truly on him, as even though luck may assist, you still have to take the opportunity.

Betty enjoys the social aspect of greyhounds and is a regular at the track, considering it to be an interesting outside interest. Betty had been looking for a replacement greyhound and had the choice of 2 lightly raced youngsters and settled on Jake.  Even though Jake started at attractive odds, Betty confessed she didn’t have a bet on him, but she was proud of the result, as she considers he is a great trier. Betty thought that Jake seemed to be running on more strongly recently, and with this win, it now takes his tally to 5 wins and 20 places from 46 starts, so he will always give you a good sight in a race.

Karen Bearpark was the only trainer to go home with a double, when Reluctant King and Chelsea Bird both had all the way wins.

With the equipment now repaired, racing has resumed at Gawler, continuing with the Tuesday afternoon and Sunday twilight race times
