Meningie trainer Cameron Butcher is no stranger to having a star brindle in his kennel, and the latest example of this trend is the brilliant Jack’s Well who was recently named the Greyhound of the Month for May.

It’s the second time Jack’s Well has claimed the award this year after winning in February and just reward for an excellent month of racing, winning three and placing in one of his five starts, with the highlight being the SA Anniversary Cup Final at Gawler. After an unplaced run in the Breeders Prelude (2) Final to start the month, he then placed in the SA Anniversary Cup heats before striking a purple patch of form winning the Anniversary Cup final in fine style at Gawler in 30.76 seconds. He then finished off the month with two more wins at Gawler against mixed 4/5 opposition and then a Heat win of the Group 3 Howard Ashton.

Such is the consistently, high-level of performance and feature wins that Jack’s Well has produced in his career thus far, it’s easy to forget the son of Aston Dee Bee and Molly Nimble is still just shy of 2 and a half years of age. On top of the aforementioned SA Anniversary Cup win, ‘Buster’ as he is known at home won the Kate’s A Scandal Christmas Sprint in December, the SA St Leger in February while he claimed a great third in the Group 3 Howard Ashton after running home strongly after some early interference. Bred by Tim Richards in partnership with Cameron and his wife Yvonne, Jack’s Well came to the Butcher’s kennels at 3 months of age and once he began racing it was clear he had a great ability to move through fields where his customary strong finishes became a highlight.

“He’s done everything right since he’s been with us but you never know how well they’ll go until they start running in fields. We knew he had some strength but he was never a real quick out of the boxes so we just hoped he would be smart in the field, and he showed he was pretty early on” said Yvonne Butcher who part owns Jack’s Well with Cameron. ”He’s a placid dog, and a good kennel dog but he can be a bit stubborn too!”

Jack’s Well will be looking to produce another feature win in the Gawler Produce Series this month after winning his heat in convincing fashion in 30.89s on Friday 2nd July. Next up are the semi-finals which he will contest this Sunday night, 11th July at Gawler.

After Friday’s win, Jack’s Well’s record stands at 44 starts for 25 wins and 13 placings with earnings of just over $73,000.
