The Long Trip Made Easier with a Double
Middleton trainer Matthew Payne made the long trip to Gawler on Sunday night. The trip is roughly around 130 kilometres which means a 260 kilometre round trip. Matthew does a majority of his racing at the much closer Murray Bridge and Angle Park but he does make the rare trip to Gawler every so often. On Sunday Night he had a team of three greyhounds engaged for the ten-race program. He ended up walking away with two winners.
The first of his two winners occurred in race three when his greyhound Aston Amber lined up as favourite from box one. She jumped away cleanly from the inside to run a time of 22.86 over 400 meters which is a pretty slick effort for her first look at the track. Matthew would strike again in race four when one of his kennel stars Wreck It Garros would draw box one as race favourite. He didn’t disappoint either. He led all of the way to run a new personal best time of 22.64.

One of SA greyhound racing’s most popular industry participants had a unique win on Wednesday afternoon. Magdalla trainer Lester Harris brought his greyhound Little Will back to the track after a remarkable eleven months off the scene. She had only had the six starts before Wednesday for one win. She came back and didn’t miss a beat at all. She won race nine by nearly three lengths and ran a time of 23.16 over 400 meters.
We also had greyhound racing at Gawler on Monday night because the usual Monday night venue Angle Park was undergoing some maintenance. One of SA’s leading trainers Troy Murray sent around one of his young up and comers in Kinrock Star. He has only had the seven starts for three wins and he is still learning the ropes but Monday night was his best run by far. He jumped away from the boxes fairly and found the lead into the back straight. He would then go on to win by a massive seven lengths and run a super quick time of 30.45. The most remarkable thing about that was it was his first look at the track. I’m sure this won’t be the last time you here about Kinrock Star.
