It was a unique afternoon at the Gawler Greyhounds on Wednesday afternoon. Over the last couple of months we’ve seen a group of enthusiastic young owners visit the track to watch there greyhound on a regular basis. The race name of this particular greyhound is Helmet Giblet. So this group of owners led by Keaton Bond attended every race start wearing helmets.

Helmet Giblet has done a majority of his racing in Victoria. He made his South Australian debut back in November of last year. It took him five attempts but on Wednesday he finally got up for a victory. He run over the top of the early leaders in the concluding stages of the race to run a time of 23.17 from box eight. His start before that was a big improvement when he ran second behind Pepperjack. That was all so his first start for his new trainer Vadim Roz who has managed to score a win and a placing in the two starts that he has had the greyhound. As you can see in the photo the Helmet cheer squad were extremely excited to see there greyhound get up on Wednesday. The noise and the cheer on course Wednesday when he crossed the line first was extremely noisy. It’s great to see passionate people get rewarded with success.

On Sunday night at Gawler Greyhounds we saw the running of the Golden Maiden Series Heats. There were two heats run over 531 meters. A majority of both of the fields were first starters. The first heat was won by Willow for leading state trainer Tony Rasmussen. Willow didn’t lead initially but he showed some great strength over the concluding stages to run over the top of the early leaders and run a time of 31.25. Ray Murray struck in the second heat when his greyhound Air Pumbaa won by two lengths. He ran a time of 31.48.

We will see the final of the Golden Maiden Series this Sunday Night at the track. Make sure you book a table trackside at Nixon’s Function Centre to experience an action packed night of Greyhound Racing action.
