The Final Hurrah at Angle Park for 4 Months
Last night saw the final race meet at Angle Park before the track redevelopment gets underway early next week. A balmy night saw patrons head to Chasers Restaurant to enjoy watching some of South Australia’s fastest greyhounds have a last crack at going down in greyhound folk law and break the Angle Park track records before the repositioning of the starting boxes.
The fastest of the night over the 515m, the safest of the track records (Brett Lee – 28.88) was Jack’s Well for Cameron Butcher who completed the course in a zipping 29.42. He ran the best time of the night but was still an amazing 0.54 seconds off the track record, some 9 lengths off the famous run.
Long Gully Barny, trained by Paula Hearnden took out the final race of the night, capping off a great night of racing.
During the track redevelopment, Murray Bridge will race Wednesdays and pick up additional timeslots on Monday and Thursday nights, with Gawler retaining its Sunday night, moving to a Tuesday daytime timeslot, as well as picking up the Friday twilight and fortnightly Saturday morning meeting.
“Although we are sad to see the last race meet at our premier venue for a few months, it is a great opportunity to showcase the best greyhounds SA has to offer to the Gawler and Murray Bridge Clubs.” Racing Manager, Shaun Mathieson explains.
“We have seen great crowds recently at the Murray Bridge Cup and Eastar Match Race Series at Gawler so we are excited to continue to provide a top racing offering to these clubs in some great timeslots.”
The new racing schedule commences this Monday, 12th April with a night meeting at Murray Bridge Greyhounds.
