Some wild winds welcomed us to a shortened 9 race card at the Bridge.

Race 1 saw Hot Rocks go around favourite after drawing box 1 for the fourth time in a row! Unfortunately, for favourite backers he was slow away and Gold Burner jumped the best to lead. Surprisingly Aston Ruby for trainer Matt Payne was able to run her down, to win by a head, showing a massive turn in form. In race 2 Zipping Elsa came out running to lead the way, however on the turn she lost the compass and Two Hands George sailed up underneath for an impressive win. Timmy Richards has been flying under the radar at Mt Gambier and his dogs have found plenty of form, which they are transferring to other tracks. Race 3 saw the heavily backed Max Hombre jump from the red. The promising Shavano & Aston Olenna landed in front of him in the run and it looked like trouble for the punters, however both the leaders fanned off on the turn and the Hombre sailed up through to land the cash!

The rail crasher Nockatunga jumped favourite in the 4th, and thankfully for the dogs inside he missed the jump, from there he was able to rail up under the field and storm away for a super impressive win, in 22.27. Race 5 was a grade 4/5 but was essentially a masters race and the consistent Chief’s Sidekick landed another win for trainer Adrien Chevalier. Freddy Reiko jumped favourite in the 6th from box 1 after being heavily backed. Cawbourne Zebra jumped the best and looked home around the turn before a fast finishing Booralite, who was first up in SA, just leveled up on the post... Resulting in a dead heat for the Rasmussen trained pair.

Race 7 saw Lauren Harris rug up four runners, which had somehow drawn boxes 5 to 8. The favourite was Waipahu which jumped terrifically, however Zipping Slade got up outside of him which caused some real grief for the favourite who wanted to get wide on the turn. This opened up the door for Reiko Bolt and his kennelmates to sail underneath and land the trifecta for Lauren, a great effort!

Race 8 was an amazingly tough race with dogs like Spring Halo and Cawbourne Boomer double figures. The winner was Danyo’s Wylie who took home another deserved win in a zooming 25.35. The last race saw Lauren Harris land another victory making it four for the day. Force to Excel who is relatively new to SA, ran an extraordinary 21.94, nearly breaking the track record. Whilst a significant tailwind was blowing, it was a ripping effort from the 3yo dog. That wrapped up another great meeting at the Bridge, with many dogs running fast times and Lauren Harris with 4 winners the highlight!

Dog to follow:

Booralite

Showed a fair bit in his first up run in SA, I liked his field sense and the way he attacked the line. Will be worth following as he progresses here.

Racing next Friday (5/2/21)

Grade 5 heats - 455m
Grade 6 - 530m
Grade 6 final - 395m

Tuesday Preview

10 Races will greet us up the straight track for the Tuesday meeting and it has brought together some really nice races. We have 6 heats of a grade 6 series over the 300m, which will no doubt result in a quality final next week, given the strength of these heats. In race 10 we see the recent 21.94 winner in Force to Excel go around again. Race 8 has brought together a superb field, which looks like a 3 dog battle on paper. Danyo’s Charlie vs Max Amigo vs Funambulist which will be a terrific watch, all very fast dogs.

Best Bet

(Race 9, Box #5) Lucky Jay

She has really hit her straps the last 2 runs at Angle Park and bitches in form tends to be a good formline to follow. She’s won up the straight before and has early speed. Think she beats the likely favourite drawn outside of her.
