A big crowd was on hand at Angle Park last night to witness the 10th running of the Shane McQueen Final which is the premier 600m distance event in the State named in the honour of former CEO, the late Shane McQueen. A high quality field was assembled after last week’s heats with the Petar Jovanovic trained flyer Cousin Callum sent out the favourite just ahead of kennel mate Max A Zillion. It was Tercel, however, for the in-form kennel of Karen Bearpark who took out the $9,000 feature in an exciting finish where he grabbed Fair Change right on the line to claim the prize. Tercel had begun nicely from box 6 to move across into a handy position early in the event with Fair Change opening up a handy break out in front. Off the back straight Tercel had moved to second and began to run home powerfully as Fair Change’s lead began to shorten. In the drive to the line Tercel got up on the inside to just nose out Fair Change in a thrilling finish, rating a handy 35.05 for the 600m journey. Fair Change was brave in defeat with Kalden Komoto continuing his consistent form in third place, beaten 4 ¾ lengths. It was just reward for Tercel who has been one of the best and most consistent chasers in the state since his debut in March of last year.

His impressive record stands at 59 starts for 23 wins and 23 placings with prizemoney in excess of $37,000. It continues the dream run of the Karen Bearpark kennel who brought up a double later in the night when Awesome Fivesome scored an impressive victory in race 10. Karen has an incredible strike rate with her team and is one of the best exponents of placing her greyhounds to advantage.
